Established in 2011.

Cakes By Rachael is a small business owned by a mother and daughter team.

We are passionate about sharing our love for baking and specialize in custom cakes, cupcakes, pastries, and chocolates!

Hello!

Showing love through baking is what we love to do at Cakes by Rachael! We live for the smiles on our clients’ faces when they see and taste our cakes pastries and desserts.

I was fortunate enough to be trained by a World Master Pastry Chef and have interned throughout Europe multiple times. I graduated top of my class with a bachelors in culinary management and decided to follow my dreams of opening a bake shop!

My Mom is a self taught baker who is the co-​owner of Cakes by Rachael. She is the glue and back bone that keeps this business going!

Baking is our passion and we are grateful for all of our clients who support our dream.

Cakes by Rachel did an amazing job on my baby shower cake and pastries. I asked for a pink and white ombré cake and they delivered well past my expectations! They made rosette sugar cookies that went quickly at the party because they were beautiful and delicious! I have referred many friends to this bakery for special parties and events. I received some delicious pastries (strawberry tarts and two puffed pastry) from the Honey Hive /​Cakes by Rachael.
My mother called in an order on my birthday and Rachael personally delivered them to me at work.
She was really nice and the presentation was beautiful (a few orchids I think inside the box).
I would definitely order with her in the future for any cake needs based on the taste and visual appeal of the pastries. Also I am very impressed with the pictures from other customers.

Absolutely the best cupcakes that I’ve ever tasted. We ordered a dozen after my sister had a tasting for her wedding preparations. So far I’ve tasted the pumpkin, the lemon blueberry, and the almond. The cakes are light, fluffy, and moist at the same time. I highly recommend going to check Rachel’s out.

We ordered my son’s cake for his 1st birthday from Rachel and she is absolutely wonderful to work with. She collaboratively worked with me on ideas that I had envisioned for the cake. She was very responsive every time I called and was very reliable (the cake was ready way before our agreed pick up time). All our guests truly enjoyed the cake and was raving about it (they all went home with Rachel’s contact information). Rachel also made a smash cake for FREE for my son and he devoured that cake in no time! We loved working with Rachel and her creative, delectable cake speaks volumes on her passion for baking. I am glad to have found our «go to» cake shop in MD!

The cake and coffin cookies that Rachel and her team made were a home run at my wedding. The cake was a simple and beautiful show stopper. And it was delicious! We got so many compliments from our guest and people took a lot of photos of the deserts that came from this bakery. Rachel was sweet and easy to work with also. Which makes everything a bit easier. I am disappointed to write this review as there are many rave reviews on here. Although Rachael is very sweet and nice to talk to, the cake she made for my son’s wedding was a big fail. I showed her a picture of what inspired the design of our cake and it did not reflect it. The pictures here speak for themselves.
Now I don’t know much about making wedding cakes, that’s why I wanted a professional who is widely referred to as the best. Unfortunately for me, the cake she delivered was nowhere near what I asked her to make. As a professional, I thought Rachael would be able to follow the inspiration better than she did. It was lopsided, the sizes of the layers were not in proportion, and the sugar flowers were poked in with very visible toothpicks. Also, the colors were very off (i requested a LIGHT almost baby blue with a slightly darker ribbon blush colored flowers and a sparkling glitter gold base. The «gold» bottom layer was made with sandlike opaque granules– not edible glitter.
Someone on Rachael’s staff came to deliver it the day of my son’s reception — a very busy, hectic day. She delivered it in parts (had to put it together) so I couldn’t see the final product right away. I don’t know who she spoke with or even IF she spoke with anyone before she left — but it wasn’t me. Once I saw the cake, she had already left before I could give her any feedback or ask for my money back right then and there. I had no other option than to use her cake but I had to take the time to ask someone to alter the cake to make it look more presentable for my son’s and new daughter in law’s special day.
If she and her staff weren’t able to create something that followed the guidelines to what we imagined, showed her a picture of, for the amount of people i requested it for, I would have preferred for her to tell me that right from the beginning. Then, I would have gladly taken my business and money elsewhere. I’m sad to say that I will not be recommending Cakes by Rachael to anyone. :(

Rachel was a pleasure to work with for my wedding cake. She was responsive, enthusiastic, accommodating, and delightful. The cake was exactly what I wanted and she did a fantastic job helping make our vision for the cake come to life. And, even better, the cake was delicious. All of our guests commented on how tasty it was. I would absolutely recommend Cakes by Rachel to anyone. She did an amazing job.

I ordered my granddaughters graduation cake 3 months in advance. I emailed a picture and also requested dark purple and lime green colors I was told no problem. I checked 2 weeks before the date and was told the cake would be ready on sat. Fri I received a call and was told my cake was ready. I informed the woman that I was not suppose to pick the cake up until sat. I would be there sat. I went in sat and when I asked to pick up the cake they took awhile to bring it out. When she bought it out the colors were all wrong but I was ok with that. Then I noticed the color was running down the side if the cake. She asked if everything was ok and I pointed out the colors were running. Rachiel came out and said she tried to fix it as best as she could that the condensation from the fridge caused it and she had never had this problem. She offered to give my money back $ 250.00 but I said no I ordered the cake I’m taking the cake so I’ll pay for the cake. I asked for a top to the box but they did not have any. I was going to put it in the back of my van along with all the outdoor furniture I was taking to the party but with no cover I just imagined all the dirt getting on the cake. I took the cake walked outside and when my husband opened the door I said let me look closer at this before we go. Truly the cake was awful. I took the cake back in asked for my money back. I would have been totally embarrassed to take this cake to the party. I feel they should have called me sat morning told me that because they made the cake a day early it was falling apart and running. I would have had time to get cup cakes. They offered me cupcake or cake pops but I did not have time to wait. If they called me in the morning they could have had them done when I got there. I chose this bakery because of the reviews but for me they failed.

I got a cake here for my sister’s birthday, and it was better than I could have ever imagined. I told Rachel I was looking for a Dali «melting clocks» themed cake, and she took the idea and ran with it. I ordered red velvet (which had chocolate chips! so good!) for one tier and hummingbird (i.e., carrot cake on steroids) as the other, and everyone loved both flavors. She was a pleasure to work with and her cake was impressive!

Rachael makes the most beautiful cakes in the area. I looked at the view books in most of the top bakeries in Anne Arundel County, and the Cakes by Rachael cakes were by far the most impressive.
We did a cake tasting, and Rachael was open to incorporating our ideas even when certain flavors we were interested in were not on the standard list.

I tried a cake pop from Rachael’s that my mom had gotten, and thought «Ok, if this cake pop is this fantastic, what are her actual cakes like!?» I was actually in search of a baker to craft my now-hubby’s groom’s cake. I’d tried Sugarbakers and a couple other ‘bigger guys’ cakes. But after meeting Rachael (located within the Honey Hive), I knew she took the cake. Pun intended. She baked a 2-​D chocolate cake, replicating a bottle of Hidden Valley Ranch dressing, speckled fondant and true-​to-​life label and all. IT WAS AWESOME. My husband flipped! The level of detail on his cake was just perfect. She even sketched the little recycling symbol on the bottom of the bottle. She was affordable, the cake received rave reviews («best cake I’ve ever had!!» from many), and most importantly, my husband loved it. I will definitely go to Rachael for all my cake needs! Well… desires, rather. :)

As DC-​area natives, my husband and I were pondering the idea of getting Georgetown Cupcakes for our wedding rather than having the traditional wedding cake. However, we also wanted to cut in to and freeze along with the cupcakes. When we tried Rachael’s cupcakes, we were amazed at how delicious they were and knew immediately we would use her. She also made and packed chocolate truffles for our guests. Our guests had so many compliments about all of her treats and we know we’ll be stopping in to grab some sweets anytime we’re nearby!

Rachael was very nice, and her cakes taste delicious! We got so many compliments for her cake at our wedding! We had her add a lighthouse to the side of the cake, it looked a little funny to be honest, but we’ll overlook that for the rest of the cake looking awesome and the taste being so good! Would definitely recommend Cakes by Rachael for your wedding!

I contacted her 4 days prior to our party to design cake pops for my daughters beach themed grad party and she was so busy, but took the special order anyway!
