Friendly place with great food. It has become our go to breakfast place. I love to see the owners working the floor.

One of our favorite neighborhood joints. Plus, it’s family run… doesn’t get better than that! Can’t wait for the remodel! Great Service!

First time visit to the Eden Avenue Grill for dinner and very pleasantly surprised… definitely want to come back and try more of their menu items! First thing that caught my eye was the steady stream of customers walking in at 5:30PM and an already ¾ filled restaurant at that time. By the time we finished our meal and dessert 1 hour later, there was a line of about 5 – 7 people waiting to be seated and I didn’t see an open table on the walk out of there. Outside, the decent sized parking lot was full and there were cars parked along Arcadia Ave. Service from the hostess staff and wait staff was excellent. Very friendly and cheerful, very unobtrusive, ready to answer menu questions and no need in asking to have water or soda glasses refilled. There are 2 different menu special boards as you walk in, one to the left and right. One listed the daily specials and the other listed the seafood specials. A third board, near the entrance to the patio area, listed the desserts available. They have a very nice array of selections for appetizers, salads, entrees, burgers/sandwiches and hot sandwiches. The portion of my meal was just the right size. So many places have grown the size of their portions(main item, side, etc…) that either you wind up leaving some of your meal behind or grab a to go box. Seeing the selection of desserts that were available, I decided to just go straight for an entrée and hope there was room for one of their dessert choices… yes, there was! Beer and wine are available. I think mixed drinks were too, but I’m not certain. The time from ordering to the arrival of our meals was very quick, 10 minutes if even that. Meals came out as requested, fresh and hot. Atmosphere is very relaxing for a conversation… unfortunately, at the table behind our divider, there was a woman whose cellphone went off 3 times in the span of 10 minutes and she actually took the calls while she was with others at her table… just what the hell is wrong with some people? Of course, her ringer was near the maximum volume level. Way too many good items to choose from on the dessert menu… carrot cake, pumpkin pie, coconut cream pie, apple crisp, fruit pies, brownies, etc… Made the decision to forge ahead and order up an apple crisp with a side of french vanilla ice cream. BEST. APPLE. CRISP. EVER. A large portion of this was served up hot and ready to go with a side dish of french vanilla ice cream. large enough that two people could easily polish off this one item… and two people actually did just that! All desserts are homemade from scratch. This is a seasonal item, according to our waitress, who was already tempting us to return come spring/summer when the apple crisp goes bye-bye until fall/winter and is replaced with what sounds like an incredibly sinful strawberry shortcake. Oh yes, I will be there to give it a try. NOTE: The restaurant will be closing at the end of January 2016 for a period of 2 – 3 months as the entire building is going to be gutted, remodeled and made over into an even better dining experience. They have been in business since the late 1970’s(see their website for the story) and they have obviously found that sweet spot which makes them quite a success based on the experience of my visit. Looking forward to many more visits to try out their breakfasts and lunches as well.

Stopped in towards the end of the lunch crowd on Wed afternoon and sat on the patio. Ordered a taco salad and Newberry turkey sandwich, both were excellent and service matched! Server knew my wife and I were going to split the salad so she had the cooks prepare it on 2 separate plates. Overall feel of the place was a little higher class but yet still casual. Overall clean facility including the men’s room.

This morning I met at Eden Avenue Grill with a group of 6 colleagues. We were greeted promptly and with a smile. Each of us got our drink orders, and then after a reasonable time placed our food orders. The server was attentive, but not too much. I ordered the Club Omelette. It was one of the BEST breakfast meals I have ever had, and breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. This is my second visit, and Eden Avenue Grill will certainly be a regular breakfast place for me. .. though I must admit that the lunch specials posted really grabbed my attention on the way out. .. just saying.

We were a large group of 30. we were seated in the patio. It was JULY. the patio is inclosed but no air conditioning and the manager had only 2 small fans. He did not seem to be very concerned about the comfort of his customers. It appeared they had a heating element for winter but nothing for the summer heat. Thus the one star. The menu was limited because of the large group. The food was okay but not anything special. The waitress was excellent serving a large group. This is not a place I would recommend.

I have to give Eden Ave five stars. One of the best things about this place is that the food they serve is fresh. They have nightly fish specials that are really good. They come with choice of a side and always fresh veg. It is truly like eating home cooked food. The open face sandwiches are awesome. The new berry and horsing around are superb. If you are looking for something unusual, this is not the place, but more like going to a friends house for dinner. It is a place I can take my family to and know we can eat healthy with all the fresh food. My 10 yro loves the bison burger, and I love I can get a side of fresh broccoli to go with it. The service is typically good but can be a tad slow. But when food is being made to order and not heated up in a microwave, that is to be expected.

Went to Eden Avenue Grill for lunch on a whim and was delightfully amazed by the quality of food and simple yet delicious nature. Both the Tuna Melt with pumpernickel bread was well flavored and taste of fresh tuna and deliciousness. The Open face Horseness was really the highlight of the lunch with melted cheese perfection.

Been going here for several years. They do a nice lunch and they have some decent specials. It’s a very cool building but the décor is basic and clean. They do have a back patio place but I prefer the mid century low slung inside. Some lunches can be grilled a tad greasier than I like but overall basic grill food done well. Yes they do attract a senior crowd but less geriatric than Pearson’s had!

I really want to give this a better rating as the wife of the owner is a long-lost, estranged relative, but I just cannot. The food was just so plain! It appears as if the restaurant chooses to cater to an older clientele which is fine because that is what they have so it works for that genre. Service was so-so. Restaurants always forget my milk because I ask to have it served with my food and not before and this restaurant was no exception. Nothing stood out as memorable. I would suggest going elsewhere unless you like simple food. I noticed other reviewers mention the owner being on hand but we didn’t have anyone other than the waitress come to our table.

This is a great family owned and run business. I have been going here for years and appreciate that the restaurant has evolved to meet the demands of an ever critical clientele. I would recommend the new patio. It has a retractable roof similar to the union restaurant downtown. If you have never been here check it out. Great place for breakfast and lunch too.

Not to be confused with the Edina Grill(also a great restaurant) this restaurant is a best-kept secret. It’s the best place in the Twin Cities to have a private business breakfast or lunch as even when it’s full, it’s quiet. It’s an easy location to get to, has adequate if not abundant parking, and is also a nice spot for a small happy hour gathering. The food is very good, very reasonable and there’s something for everyone but nothing fancy. The service is good not excellent. Despite the fact that its been here for years, everyone I meet there has never been there and then says they will come back for sure.

I have been here several times for lunch and have always enjoyed the tuna sandwich and chips. Their clam chowder soup is another favorite of mine. I have not enjoyed the Caesar salad dressing, a bit bland. The staff is friendly and attentive most of the time.

I recently started working a couple blocks away from The Eden Avenue Grill. On a particularly frigid day, I headed out for lunch and decided to go to the nearest option — which unfortunately is this restaurant. Service was the slowest I have ever experienced. We were seated and then left alone for 15 minutes. I finally flagged down a gentleman that was setting silverware on the tables and asked him who would be helping us. He went and tracked down our server who came over without apology or even a greeting and said, «So you’re ready to order…» Now mind you — we were one of only 3 tables in the restaurant. My lunch-mate and I each ordered a Reuben and French Onion soup. It took at least 20 minutes for the food to come. The food was mediocre at best. The soup was watery and especially disappointing. When the server dropped off our food, she said she’d come back with water and asked if there was anything else we needed. I requested the check since this was a lunch break. We ate all of our food and were waiting for her before she came back by with the water. Plus, I had to remind her to bring the check. Another 5 minutes later, the check came. The service alone gives me reason to never return and I’m not sad about never eating their food again.

There’s something oddly charming about the neon signs, forest of fake planets, and other outdated 80s décor. Come here anytime between 4:30 — 6:30pm any day of the week, and you’ll find a parking lot full of crookedly parked Cadillacs, Lexuses, and Mercedes. Recently, I stopped for a quick bite on around 6:20pm on a weeknight. The host took our name, and assured us plenty of tables would be available shortly. Like clockwork, several walker-dependent, well dressed guests shuffled out around 6:30pm, and we took were escorted to our table. The menu is full of monotonous, safe choices such as plain burgers, typical sandwiches, and a nightly dinner special — meatloaf, pot roast, liver and onions. Quick tip: get their early for the dinner specials they typically sell out. My boyfriend and I split the chicken fajitas and open face, smothered turkey sandwich. When considering cooking to the pallet of the typical customer, the dishes were everything I expected them to be — cooked well, but were unexciting and lacked any«soul». Even though the food’s nothing to write home about, I still like the quirky charm of the place. I’d stop back for a convenient sandwich and good people watching.

I’d agree with a lot of what other Unilocalers have already noted. The menu sounds way more exciting than the food served and the clientele is on the elderly side. It makes sense because this place reminded me of Country Kitchen or Perkins(without the drunks). I stopped in with a few co-workers over lunch and had the Reuben. It was OK, but for $ 9 though, I wouldn’t order it again. One of my co-workers also had the Reuben, and another had the«Hamburger»(as it was listed). They shared my sentiment on everything being pretty«meh.» We ordered a basket of Sweet Potato Fries which was the highlight for me. Sharing seemed like the way to go, because f you’d like to add a side order of SPF to your plate it’s $ 4, which seemed a little outrageous for this place. Overall this place was underwhelming. The service was fine, but $ 14 for an underwhelming lunch won’t draw me back any time soon. Tip: The table next to us had cornbread and it looked amazing. I overheard them talking about how good it was too.

I came here for lunch with my law partner the other day. The rather extensive menu had a lot of lunch place staples, but apparently the open face sandwiches are one of their specialties. The EAG puts their menus online without making you download a bunch of PDFs, which is greatly appreciated, and my partner thought it would be a nice change from the places on France and York Avenues. Before we left, I had been in the mood for a good salad, but it was one of the first cold days in a while, and I was disappointed by the descriptions of the salads, as they seemed to lack any imagination. So then I was eyeing a nice warm sandwich instead. This ended up being a pretty good call. I got the open faced Reuben, he got the Horsin’ Around(mentioned in another review). We’re both what you might call foodies, but not militant about it. Nevertheless, he won’t finish something if he thinks it’s not up to snuff. He seemed to enjoy his and I rather liked mine as well. Very tasty, very cheesy and great corned beef. Presentation is lacking, though. It’s just a sandwich on a plate with some fries and a pickle. A little parsley or kale on there wouldn’t kill them. The fries were good, but not great. Not too thin or thick, some skin on, but you can tell they come frozen. The pickle was meh. The atmosphere of the place is trying for a retro kind of vibe, but in a way that seems to try a little too hard. The walls are hung with framed photos of Edina and Minneapolis from the 20s and 30s, as well as some black and white portraits of people apparently well-known in Edina back in the day but just kind of random now. The booths are really narrow. Even if you’re skinny, they don’t give you much room to move your arms and your elbows kind of bang against the table. We had to ask to move to a table so we didn’t feel like we were packed into a submarine mess hall. There’s nothing special about the rest of the decoration or overall environment. It feels like it’s been around for a while, but that’s what they’re going for, I guess. The noise level wasn’t too bad, but there was a table of ladies playing mah jong over by the bar that started to get annoying after a few minutes.(I’m not hating on mah jong, my 80-year old grandmother is like the Paul Newman of the Chinese tile game) Even with a table cloth to dampen some of the sound, the clicking and shifting of tiles was grating. I presume this is a regular group, since the place isn’t like a coffee shop that just invites people to hang out indefinitely. So if you go, ask to be seated at a table on the other side of the restaurant. Bottom line, it’s decent food and I wouldn’t complain if we went back there again, but not over places closer to my office like Tavern on France, which has a similar menu, but more flare and better execution.

Father’s Day 2011 — Dad picked the spot, so how could I argue? My Unilocalster friends warned me of the lack of Gen Y, X, and Boomers in this spot, so I was prepared to be surround by some wise old souls(tried to avoid using the word«geriatric» there). But I can roll with that… heck, in comparison, my sprightly Grandma looked youthful at 73(hey, she still lifts weights at The Y – it pays). I kept it basic with the Club House sandwich. Nothing particularly memorable — the turkey was lumped into the middle of the sandwich, so I had 3 or 4 bites of bread + tomato and no meat. Frustrating. The sweet potato fries were great, but they cost $ 4 extra(on top of the $ 9 sandwich), so what the what. The dipping sauce with the fries had a killer kick, so I used it for the sandwich, too, which nearly salvaged the affair. My uncle loved his open-faced sandwich, «Horsin’ Around»(roast beef). Then again, the man loves to eat and is easy to please, so that may not be a great indicator of quality. Those who ordered salads were impressed with the portion size, but not blown away by the taste. We had brought our own cake to celebrate Father’s Day and my birthday… and paid a nifty little plate charge for them to bring us 8 plates and a knife. I get it, but really? That dropped it from 3 stars to 2 stars. We had just racked up a bill of around $ 100, then you need to charge us a plate charge? Maybe that’s par for the course in this area, but still lame.
