If it says Noodle House, go for the noodles! We were looking for a little lunch(we are trying very hard not to order everything off the menu whenever we go somewhere new) and I had bookmarked this place awhile back. Had an order of Soup Dumplings, the Pork Sandwich and they had a special of sorts Chicken Feet for $ 2.45(why not) all of this was OK, nothing spectacular the soup dumplings are waaaay better at Shanghi Dumpling House. We came for the noodles and they did not disappoint, loved the Curry Beef Noodle dish, fresh pulled noodles in a light green curry sauce with beef and mushrooms. So if you are looking for fresh noodles — however you want them, they have so many variations on the menu, this is the place to come!

Not bad but not great. I was in the mood for some beef noodle stew and came here. The beef was surprisingly tender despite how the picture looks. My husband got the tendon and said it was a little too much for him. The soup was ok, but not memorable. The Xiao long bao was ok. The flavor was lacking and a few of the dumplings I had, had barely any soup in them. The skin was a little in the thicker side, but I’ll probably come here for my soup dumpling fix until I find someplace better.

Really solid Chinese food near the highway. I’m on a soup dumpling quest and, while not surprising, their iteration was far better than anything I’ve been able to find in Washington, DC. The skins are thin but strong, broth is flavorful, and meat is perfectly packed and tasty. We also had the handmade noodles with beef, the cold cucumber salad, scallion pancakes and shrimp dumplings. Scallion pancakes were perfect — sufficiently fried but not oily. Noodles were awesome comfort food, especially for the cold weather. The cucumber salads was a good version of this dish. Shrimp dumplings were our least favorite and tasted fishier than we hoped for. I would definitely make a detour to eat at Shanghai Noodle House again.

Love this place. I am a regular. I work in the area all the time and make sure I stop in for lunch or dinner when ever I get the opportunity, I do have a favorite dish that I usually don’t order more because I am usually solo. It is the noodle with minced meat and bean paste. They see me walk in and know what I want right away. The noodles are homemade and always made to perfection. I am usually one of the only non Chinese patrons in the restaurant. Very authentic. I always want to try other dishes but am usually solo because I am working.

The food here was decent. I gave this place four stars because the food is good for the price you pay. I believe almost everything on the menu was under $ 10. I got the Hong Kong Style Wonton Soup. The wontons tasted like any other wonton soups at Chinese restaurants. It was good and I have nothing really to complain about except for the soup, which was super bland. It had almost no taste to it. Neither did the pork pieces inside the soup. I probably won’t be getting that dish the next time I come. My friends got soup dumplings there and they all seemed satisfied with it. Overall, this place is good for the price and to fill your stomachs. I would go here again.

Went here with my parents during the moon holiday and I regret to say it was awful. The Taiwanese burger was all fat, the shrimp rolls had artificial filling, something else we ordered with three types was junky, and the noodles were just drowning in grease. They really struck out.

My husband and I really enjoyed eating the pork soup dumplings, we got 3 orders of them and just couldn’t stop eating. I liked how the outside of the dumpling was just thick enough so that when you picked it up with chopsticks you wouldn’t break it. We also ate an order of the fried pork chop appetizer which was nice and crispy.

Really affordable food with a nice variety of authentic noodles and dishes. I enjoyed the soup dumplings, which had a nice relatively clear broth, although a handful of them had broken by themselves in the baskets due to the thin skin. The fried pork chop was great and crispy on the outside. The pot stickers are decent, though the filling was pretty dense. The pork sandwiches were very flavorful and good, topped with scallions and cilantro, but I think the beef ones would have been better.

This is similar to the restaurant in Matawan but I do prefer the Matawan restaurant more. The menu at this Edison location is much more expansive and not a self-service with drinks but the overall feel of the restaurant is not quite up to par as Matawan. The food is quite nice and at a nice price. I’ve had the shanghai soup dumplings and the pan-fried dumplings are well made and their noodle soups are quite nice. They have improved since first arriving but it’s tough competition back in Edison with so many Asian eateries. It’s worth a try but my money is still on Coco down Rt 27 in Edison!

One of my favorite spots to eat delicious authentic Asian food in New Jersey. Everything I have tried there has been delicious and I have been there many times. Service is quick and they know we order our dumplings first :~) if you want appetizers you have to order them first or they will come out with the rest of your food. It’s cheap and relatively quick. Some of my favorite things on the menu include the fresh sautéed noodles, and the soup buns. They aren’t the best most amazing soul buns but they are delicious. I also love the string beans! Amazing. I believe they have pork in them however which is not indicated so just be aware of that. The Chinese spinach with garlic is delicious and the Mongolian lamb is outrageous, as well as the lobster. You get a truck load of lobster for such a low price! My family has the VIP card which gives you discounts on certain special items on the wall, as well as discounts off your bill. If you go often enough it’s recommended to get the card ^.^ It’s a delicious spot and I hope they never close. I love Shanghai noodle house !!

Delicious Dim Sum, the only downside to this place is the $ 15 credit card minimum. There’s no ATM, and the closest one is a few blocks away from this place, a real inconvenience for the customer and the only thing keeping me from giving it at least a four star review. Seriously, who carries cash? If you have the cash though, do check out their soup buns.

Pretty good Shanghai variety food I think. Decent options and they have a little bit of everything. Would probably come back again.

You know the noodle & experience is going to be authentic when you see the small soup bowl and chop sticks waiting for you at the table. No forks here my friend! The décor is simple and structured to seat a large group of patrons even in a strip mall. Bonus point – IT’S A BYOB! So my wife and I ordered the steamed pork soup buns, fried pork chop, pork radish soup(with flat noodles) & spicy beef soup(with homemade noodles). Fried pork chop($ 4.95) was just right with tenderness and came with a very good soy vinegar side. Steamed pork soup buns(8 pieces) — this alone can be made a meal for a whopping $ 6.95! My spicy beef soup($ 7) was warm liquid satisfaction. The beef falls apart when you bite in to it and the greens have a nice crispness & bright green color. The broth seemed to be nothing too fancy but I did add some hot oil to it which adjusted it to my flavor level. The homemade noodle is just rich and almost made me forget about my appetizers. I will definitely be frequenting shanghai noodle house for these! Pork radish soup($ 6) tasted quite different from my dish which is how it should be. I’m not a fan of restaurants where everything kind of tastes similarly. Radish was fresh, pork bits tender and flat noodle was a nice contrast to homemade noodles. In delectable conclusion, we had an awesome 4 dish meal for $ 27.45! Shanghai noodle house is most certainly 5 stars when you factor in price, quality, portion and a bevy of varieties whether it’s appetizers, cold dishes, hot dishes, fried foods, rice boxes, bubble teas, BYOB restaurant, etc. This place just got added to my top 5 local restaurants and I WILL be ordering take out frequently. Take your favorite red & white wine bottle with you and enjoy some fairly priced awesomeness in a soup bowl!

I am happy to see a good noodle house with bubble tea, XLB xiao long Bao, homemade noodle and good crispy chicken wings. It is not far off 95 New Jersey turnpike. The milk tea is great and not too sweet.

So I’ve heard about this place before and since I was craving some Asian food I decided to check it out. It’s super busy but we didn’t end up waiting that long. Since I’m obsessed with peanut butter, I ordered a «Dan Dan mian» which is basically noodles with chili and sesame paste/peanut butter as well as some sort of veggie. My friends ordered rice with sesame chicken and we got an eggplant dish to share too(I told them to make out without meat since I’m vegan). My noodle portion wasn’t too big at all but the rice dishes were HUGE as they also came with potatoes and veggies. The noodles were pretty good but not spicy enough at all and the noodles were a little too thick for traditional Dan Dan noodles. The eggplant had way too much oil, which is normal for Szechuan food, so even though I didn’t have too much of it I ended up feeling nauseous. I don’t know if I would order the same noodles again but I’m still up for coming back and ordering something else on the menu(as long as it’s vegan) to give this place another shot.

Tip: come in during lunch hours. Because it’s like a good house party– crowded. The food was fresh when we ordered the following: Shanghai Pan Fried Noodles Pork Steamed Soup Buns Crab pork Steamed Soup Buns The service was better than I expected. The girl that attended to us was very accommodating. Reminds me of an old Taiwanese restaurant I used to frequent. So happy that I finally saw this place! *yay* :throws confetti:

I was originally looking Shanghai dumpling house. I found it. Unfortunately it was closed even though on Unilocal it stated it was open. I turned my cute little car and I proceeded to the Shanghai noodle house. I was nervous because I’ve read about the service being really bad. I went there on a gamble and perused the menu with some help from my fellow Unilocalers, ordered the following: –Steamed pork soup dumplings, –Taiwanese hamburgers(this place gave us two generous portions of pork and bun for only $ 6), –beef with veggies and rice noodle soup(all the soups come with your choice of noodles: flat noodles, egg, homemade, rice and thin rice noodles), –flat noodles with mustard greens and fish fillets(not fried), and rice cake with sauce and pickled vegetables. All these dishes for three people. Bill came out to be $ 36 before tax. Not bad at all. Better still, the food. There’s a reason why they call this place the Shanghai Noodle House. It’s got excellent selection of noodles and it much much more than just a soup dumplings as their star attraction. All the beef dishes were rich in flavor and the fish soup was nice and delicate. Our favorites all happened to be the same: the fish with wide noodle soup and the rice cake with vegetables. None of the dishes were greasy or too fatty. What’s really great is my husband, who actually has an aversion to Chinese food«too oily, too much msg, etc etc etc» loved this place. He only eats Chinese food because one of him, more of us. Yes, we are bullies. He couldn’t get over how tender the meat was in the beef noodle soup but how succulent the Taiwanese hamburger was. At another restaurant, it was one big wad of fat in the bun. Ok, I’ll admit it, I like the fat so I ate it. He never had soup dumplings before so he was completely floored at how this restaurants made them and the skin was tough enough to not tear as you get them onto your spoon but isn’t tough as you bite into it and the soup flows out and fills your mouth with goodness. Finally, onto the staff. I braced myself for rudeness and was pleasantly surprised when they were very busy yet they kept up with all the orders, got the orders right, and made sure our tea cups was always full and hot. We spied other dishes that we would like to try such as the Mongolian style lunch, mixed beef intestine, steamed vegetable dumplings and the fish soup. So many wonderful dishes. Til next time.

This place definitely hit the spot for breakfast… warm sweet soy milk and congee(porridge) w/pork and duck egg. Add a cruller twist to go w/the porridge as you eat, kinda like fried noodles and you’re tasting some real good Chinese comfort food right there. We decided to visit this place instead of getting dim sum on a Saturday morning and I was happy to see that they offer a nice selection of dim sum items as well including shrimp dumplings and shui mai. But people definitely come here for the fresh soy milk… it’s silky and sweet. Service is also efficient and quite simple — just wave your hand if you need something and ask any staff person walking by. Just don’t expect them to ask how you are liking the dish. Another plus is that their menu has lots of pictures!

I’m going to have to go through my reviews; with so many Shanghai ____in the area I thought I reviewed this place or it might have been some other place and I meant to do this one. Or I’ve been to all of the places and have just been screwing up who I;m writing what for. I don’t even know anymore. Isn’t there more city’s in China then Shanghai? Let’s switch up the names a little here. On top of that most of them look the same. I meant the photos of the food and décor look the same… I know for a fact(I think) I came here last Monday with a former college. He’d just tried soup dumpling for the first time in NYC and was wondering if we could get them in NJ. He lives in Short Hills and I told him he’s going to have to trek to the Central Jersey China Town(Edison) to meet up with me for what he desires. Soup dumplings were just the tip of his toe as far as the pool of authentic Asian eats goes. I insisted on doing the ordering and we got: 1 Shanghai Style Wonton Soup 1 Order pork Soup Dumplings 1 Order Shrimp Rolls 1 Order Rice Cake with Pork and Cabbage We split everything and it was all very good. The shrimp rolls were the real highlight for me. Shrimp wrapped up in a delicate noodle type wrapper drizzled with what I’m assuming is Hoisin sauce. Simple and Delicious. My friend had never had a Rice Cake dish and really enjoyed it as well as everything else. The waitress showed us somebody else’s order of «Thai Style Chow Fun» that looked very good. I immediately noticed the noodles looked incredibly fresh and not clumped together at all. I wouldn’t be surprised if they were made in house. The place we initially wanted to go to was closed on Monday, however I did not regret making the switch. I will return.

I’ve eaten here on several occasions and every time I’ve left feeling full and satisfied. It’s a very family-friendly restaurant and all the dishes you order are all very easy to share. For some of my favorite dishes: The pork soup dumplings here are very yummy, as are the pork potstickers. For soups, my favorite soup is the spicy beef and mustard green one with homemade noodles, but the hot and spicy beef one is also yummy. Overall there are a bunch of options for everyone here and it’s definitely worth a try!
