The Refinery Salon

I have been having my hair done by Sarah for over three years! She always listens to what I want and either does it or (gently) recommends an alternative. I appreciate her honesty and that she asks for input from other stylists. I always walk out feeling beautiful! They recommend products but are never pushy! I feel welcomed by the whole staff. I have recently started taking my 8yo daughter… JASON is a pro with her!

I am really, really sad to be writing this review. I found the Refinery Salon in Edmonds after being with my former hairstylist of 8 years because we moved. I had a great first appointment with the owner, Elizabeth. She is fantastic at coloring. The problem is that after going to her once, I scheduled another appointment only to have it canceled because of a conflict. I rescheduled and went back in another time again with great service. Two more times cancelations happened so I decided to try a different salon. With no luck, I went back to Elizabeth. Unfortunately this time, after wanting only an ½ inch cut off, she cut 3 and said, oops! I guess I got crazy wth the scissors. I loved her color and knew my hair would grow so I let it be. She was kind enough not to charge me for the cut, so I scheduled another appointment and gave me hair supplements (which when I got home expired as of ¹⁰⁄₁₄). Well, I called today to say, I was supposed to have a hair appointment recently and never got a confirmation can you check for me? The gal at the front desk stated my appointment was the week prior (they didn’t notify me or even call me at the time of the appointment) and they send notifications out via text and email. Oh, let me get info from you. I said, you don’t have it? I let her know that I pre scheduled because I knew I had a wedding to go to and was there any way I could get in before the date of travel? 3 times she said I can get you in on the 3^rd (after my travel date). I would not recommend this experience to anyone. I guess it is my own fault for wanting good hair color. As a person heavily involved in business catering to the retail side, what happened to customer service? I’m
Pretty disappointed in the outcome of this. The only reason there is one star is because Elizabeth is great at coloring.

I am writing this review based on the experience of my wife, who is from China. She is an esl student at Edmonds Community College. About 8 months ago my wife had her front bangs curled at Refinery, but the perm lost its curl after less than a week. Today she thought that she would try Refinery again. We live less than a block away, so she stopped on her way home from school and set up an appointment for 2pm today. She left her name and phone number, but when she arrived back at 2pm, she was told that the appointment was cancelled, without notice or explanation! Even 10 or 20 minutes notice would have saved a trip and we do not really understand why it was cancelled and why no notice was given. Not a good experiences. She won’t be back.

Had my hair done by Kara and I could not be more happy! Everyone who I came in contact with at the salon was so nice and I am very pleased with how my cut/​color turned out. Thank you ladies at the refinery salon!

I had been searching for a new hairstylist, and I came across the amazing reviews for Jason. I have been to him twice now, and I am so happy to have found him. Jason is totally meticulous, really takes his time to do a perfect job. He listens to what you want. Then applies his talent to ensure you love the end result. If you are looking for a new stylist. Don’t go anywhere else… You won’t be sorry. Jason makes you feel welcome and relaxed from the moment you meet him.

Had an appointment today with Jason. I am beyond pleased with my cut and color. He did an absolutely beautiful job. He is such an amazing talent and wonderful soul. Love this salon!

Finding this salon was the best thing that ever happened to me! I’ve been transitioning from box dyed black hair to blonde for the past six months and after a communication issue at another salon I was left with a very bland ashy dirty blonde color. In an effort to hide it I dyed my hair bright green, which might not have been my smartest decision because it was unlikely I would ever be able to get enough green out to go light blonde.
I stumbled across the Refinery Salon on Instagram and booked an appointment with Angelo after a couple months of the green hair. I wanted to go blonde, but had the backup plan of going red if that was (likely) not possible. Angelo KILLED IT and I now have gorgeous light blonde healthy hair, it only took one appointment and was so affordable compared to what I was paying in Seattle for nothing near what I wanted. The salon is in a beautiful house, the whole staff is friendly and I had such a wonderful experience there. I’ve been trying to achieve blonde hair unsuccessfully for four years and it finally happened, thank you soooo much Angelo! I will definitely be a regular at the Refinery from now on.

I rarely give reviews… on this occasion though I must write one. This is my second facial by Liz and she is nothing less than AMAZING! ! She’s very knowledgeable knew exactly what my skin needed. My skin feels like a million bucks! can’t wait to see her again!

I joked that I would not review this place out of greed (LOL) — I just moved here from Texas and was very worried about not being able to find someone who knows hair and more importantly, knows CURLS. After a lot of research, I was brought back to the Refinery time and time again because of Jason’s stellar reviews — I am SO GLAD because he is the BEST! He knows hair, he has great style, he listens and he knows exactly what to do with your hair to bring out the best in you! I wanted micro bangs — something I have always had and even in my 40’s can’t seem to let them go and he gave me the cutest micro bangs as well as some new lovely blond highlights. I cannot give this salon enough stars — they are fantastic in every way!

The place is awesome! The look, feel, atmosphere, and especially the people working there enhances the overall experience! I had Elizabeth as my hair stylist and she was very wonderful and knew exactly what she was doing. Hands down the best place I’ve been to and I’ve been to many places in the Seattle area! Will continue to go here for their excellent customer service and services that they provide!

I’ve been showing up here regularly, and I couldn’t be happier!
I’ve gone though a lot of hair transformations– mostly short cuts. Angelo has always been my stylist, and I trust him to always do the right color.
Earlier on, I had Angelo dye my hair green, and the color seemed to permanently dye my hair light yellow/​green. It seemed it took forever for it to grow out (I also didn’t want to stay in the green/​blue family forever). My stop in was to change my hair from a pale chartreuse, to something that would hide the yellow from the previous non-​wella hair color.
My visit on Thursday went very well. I asked Angelo if he could fix the remaining yellow/​green hair, without cutting my length, and he suggested a peach color.
To my amazement, the color covered everything, and my look is refreshed! No more chartreuse!
Please make sure to book Angelo if you’re having color problems– He will be sure to fix you right up. I have seen other hairstyles, and colors done by Angelo, and if you’re looking for a more natural look (non wild hair color) I would suggest him. I have never had a bad experience with him.

I love this salon! I don’t remember the last time my hair felt this great and it is all thanks to Jason. When you first walk in you are greeted with a smile and a beverage of your choice. Water, tea, wine, etc. I was stoked to drink some white wine while getting my hair done! So fancy. I got a partial foil with a deep condition and I am more than happy with the outcome. Thanks for making me feel beautiful again! I will definitely be going back for all of my future needs. The products they use there all smell so good and work wonders!

Oh my word. This is the best salon! I am beyond picky about my hair, so I was very hesitant about making an appointment. Jason is THE BEST. Will FOREVER be going back to him! I was pretty specific about the kind of blonde direction I wanted to go and he absolutely delivered! LOVE.

Unfortunately for Me I got lost on the way there on public transportation mind You so I stayed so I could apologize to the Stylist for My mistake.

Colored (I’d been using Henna for months) hair perfectly with a line especially made for sensitive scalps like mine. As a two time cancer survivor I am so very careful as anyone whose had to go without hair would need to Be!
Natasha gently covered the greys and the wild orange copper Henna perfectly. She also gave Me one of the best bangs I’ve ever had. I don’t know how She so deftly cut just the minutest locks of hair and yet totally
Made My whole head of hair just come alive with added volume and bounce. I really thought I was in a Commercial My mane looked and still looks so good! What a treat to have a place like this that grants You a complete Hair makeover and Stylists like Natasha and Elizabeth that know how to treat even their new customers, please go Your So Worth It!!!

I wish I could give 10 stars, if that was an option, Liz and the others at the Refinery Salon would get it. I have had my share of hair places in my 40 years, and some have been good, but never have I trusted someone so completely with my hair. I usually just tell Liz to do what she wants because I know I will walk out looking fantastic. My hair has never looked or felt better, and I get more compliments now than I ever have. Every single person here is wonderful, and if for some reason I couldn’t get an appointment with Liz, I would feel comfortable letting anyone do my hair, they are all that great. The vibe in the salon is amazing, and everyone is very friendly. I love the mint tea also! I look forward to my appointments every 9 weeks or so, and that says a lot.

Ive been a true Refinery Salon client for over a year. I’m so grateful I found Sarah! She salvaged a terrible color job from a previous salon. I have mass amounts of dark, long and curly hair, and she handles it beautifully. Which is rarely the case! I get compliments on my hair all the time because of the beautiful cut and color. She makes me look totally natural but updated and hip for a 40+ year old woman!
Not only is Sarah amazing, but so are the others working right along side her. I always enjoy coming to see all my Refinery friends!

I saw Sarah after I had been following her Instagram for a while. I had a partial done as some pastel pink accents, as well as a cut. She used a new line of Wella’s pastel color. It faded pretty fast as red tones do. She told me I could definitely come in for a complimentary touch up if that happened faster than usual, although I never took her up on the offer. The cut is was the best I have ever had.

Let me start out by letting you know that I’m not a high hair maintenance girl by any means. I probably violate every known Cosmo hair rule ever printed. I get up, shower, and leave the house with my hair still wet. I never blow dry. I shampoo my hair daily… Sometimes twice a day (*wait for the collective gasps*). I cut my hair once a year, if that. And my hair is typically in a pony tail 80% of the day.
Last August, I tried The Refinery based on the amazing reviews on their balayage treatments. Yes, this review may seem way too late to be relevant, but trust me, it is. I have naturally long brown hair and wanted something natural but noticeable. Elizabeth, one of the owners, held my hand and led me down the path of beautiful, magazine photoshoot-​ready hair. She added honey and copper balayage highlights in my hair and gave me an amazing cut. I was so pumped and got compliments for weeks.
Fast forward 9 months: my balayage still looks awesome, but I desperately needed a cut. Yesterday, I went back for a cut, this time with Jordan. When I arrived, they brought me some coffee and we got down to brass tacks. She helped me decide on the best cut for my face and (lack of) maintenance routine, and totally delivered. It was way beyond my expectations. She gave me advice that I will actually use: easy and fast tips to style my hair so I don’t have to stand in front of a mirror for an hour each morning. My new hair regimen can take me from the shower to the front door in less than ten minutes (and that includes curling)!! I seriously love my new, shorter cut and will definitely be back.
I live in Capitol Hill, and despite living next to some great salons downtown (several of which, I’ve tried before), I love The Refinery the most. They’re welcoming, real, professional, and talented. Check them out, they may be a bit of a trek from Seattle, but they’re totally worth it.

Kathy has done my hair the last 2 times and she is great! They are always so warm and welcoming. I never realized how great it is to have your hair done by real professionals. Ladies thank you so much!

I was a first time client to this salon, ultimately I decided to go here because of all the great reviews.
I was a bit nervous to go to the salon because I was going from brown to blonde and had hair down to the waist of my pants.
When I arrived all the staff were very friendly, the décor is gorgeous, and the salon is impeccably kept.
Upon arrival I explained to the stylist that I wanted full foils and 4 inches taken off my hair (I still wanted it to be longer then the bottom of my bra strap), layers, and bangs. I even showed the stylist multiple photos.
I LOVE my colour. She did an amazing job with that.
However, I am SO disappointed with my haircut. Instead of the agreed upon 4 inches there was probably closer to 8 inches taken off.
The actual cut is done well, I can’t complain about that. But the agreed upon haircut was not what I received. At the appointment I did express my disappointment with the new length.
I even waited a few days to post this review hoping I would fall in love with my hair, but it just isn’t happening. I am so bummed out.
I would come here a second time and give it another chance, but I would first discuss my bitter disappointment with my first experience in hopes it would not repeat itself.
