The Gashouse

Our impression was not good from the get go, but because our host had been talking about this restaurant the whole trip, we decided to try it out.
First of all, the hostess was terrible. She couldn’t figure out how to sit a party of 6, but sat several parties of 8 and 10 while we waited — and I should mention that she flat out said they weren’t used to «large» parties. There were a couple of high tops available in the bar area that we asked if we could push together and were told no. We were told it would be an hour wait and were relegated to the hostess station to sit it out. Not right by the bathrooms, but close to it, and also by the employee breakroom/​office so we had a lot of traffic coming through.
We were served drinks and appetizers while still waiting in this area, and with no table, so that was a fun balancing act.
When they finally sat us, our party was split into two tables — one of 4, one of 2 — near each other but not connected, and not 5 minutes later the hostess sat a group of 5 people at a table for 6 table that was available when we were seated. Isn’t that odd.
The waitress Kim did her job. No fault lies with her (okay, maybe some, she did forget to bring us a few requests). The food was horribly sub par. Burnt rice, burnt quail, watery pasta, forgotten sides and sauce. My fiancé ordered a beer that was served warm, and half of our water glasses had food stuck to the outside. Two of our party members ordered burgers and were the only ones satisfied with their meals.
We asked for a manager at the end and were simply told by Andy (whose name I had to look up after the fact because he didn’t introduce himself) there was no way the food was bad and then he walked away. No apology, no offer to make it right. After a huge build up (group host had been coming here for 15+ years), we were terribly disappointed in the overall experience.
Oh and before all the cruddy stuff went down, the host of our group asked for a specific t-​shirt to add to his Beaver Creek /​Gashouse collection, and never got it. Triple checked to make sure he wasn’t charged for it.

We loved this place! The mussels and carpaccio were melt in your mouth good. We followed that with the lobster tail and elk filet which were amazing. You can’t beat amazing food in a quaint atmosphere without all the pretentiousness. The service was great too! Highly recommend.

The group went here last year and had a really good meal, so we went back this year. Service was good but the food was NO WHERE AS GOOD! We don’t mind paying for good food but this year the food was awful, most of us never finished the meal (dried out buffalo platter, bad crab cake) and the bill for 4 was over $ 260 with us each having 2 beers. We will NEVER GO BACK!

The service and décor is outstanding. This place really screams mountain cabin living. The food was delicious, we loved the game and seafood offerings at a place like this. Alex our waiter was friendly, provided great recommendations. We had spicy shrimp and chicken chili to start, both tasty. For dinner we had buffalo tenderloins with pasta side, and lobster tail with an elk medallion. Only complaint is that our meats were cooked rare when we had ordered medium. Go here if you are in Edwards and are craving a big quality meal! Prices are all appropriate.

We went to the Gas House last night based on the recommendation of someone in our group that had been there years ago and thought he remembered getting a good steak. Suffice it to say that this guy is now banned from picking restaurants.
Two of us ordered the Wagyu rib eye for $ 50 apiece. It was thin, tough, and while I have never ordered a steak at Denny’s, it was pretty much what I would expect to receive with a steak and egg grand slam breakfast.
Two others ordered the bacon wrapped filet and reported it was «OK». Ditto for the salmon.
On the plus side, the service was quick, our waiter was friendly and the onion rings were very good. Those are pretty much the only reasons that salvaged two stars for this restaurant.

I’d heard about this place for years and finally had dinner here on Saturday night. They were able to accommodate our reservation change from 4 to 7 people only an hour before we’d planned to show up, which was great for it being a busy holiday weekend. I see a lot of reviews that complain about the prices, but this IS the valley and it’s quite a bargain compared to just about everywhere else, not to mention it’s very «classic Colorado casual» which worked out for me since I forgot to bring real clothes on my trip and showed up in my skiing base layers (totally fine in spite of this being a bit of a Cordillera crowd).
Our group spent a boatload on fresh oysters (divine), multiple bottles of wine, huge game platters (elk, buffalo, quail, venison), crab cakes, prime rib, lobster tails, crab legs and their many varieties of sides including the most popular at our table — a huge loaded twice baked potato. I couldn’t even eat half of my plate in spite of how delicious everything was. We had some seriously complicated orders for each person with sides, add-​ons and other requests and everything came out just right. While we’d heard they were known for their crabcakes, and mine was great (all crab, no filler whatsoever) my elk filet with blackberry demi-​glacé, cooked perfectly rare, stole the show. There are plenty of more inexpensive options like a burger, fried chicken and sausages not to mention a very long list of appetizers mostly focused on wild game and fresh seafood. They also have a happy hour! We will definitely return!

Food was amazing! Great service, a great menu, and very well prepared food. The steaks, quail, elk, and buffalo sausage were all fantastic. Cool atmosphere as well.

This is one of the places I would recommend specially for off-​season pricing. Really good variety food specially meat. Waiters were really nice recommend trying it at least once.

Great food! I had the buffalo burger and it was amazing. Fries were perfect. My friends had crab cakes and salmon, they were delicious, and true Maryland crabcakes. I tried her crab cakes and they were delicious. Nothing like the crap I’ve tasted before. Service was very good and accommodating.

Wasn’t too impressed with this restaurant. Locals were raving it but I honestly don’t know why. It’s very stuffy & hot. The service could have been better & waiters friendlier. The food way overpriced, but tasted good.

Pretty good location to have lunch. The food is very fresh and tasty. I love their fried chicken. Reasonable price and very good service. Will come back to try other dishes

If you’re in town and want a great steak, with lots of wild game as options, this is the place for you! They have just about anything you can think of on the menu — and bonus — the owner is originally from Ocean City, MD so they have fresh crabs (and other seafood) flown in daily! Make sure you have a reservation in the winter but it really isn’t too bad in the summer or other offseason times. Great wine list with knowledgeable servers as well!

Staff are always super friendly, we are locals so they take time to get to know everyone in the area. Check out music on the patio on Sundays. Always look at what the special of the day is before you go… the Mussels are a great deal for the Vail Valley.

Had a nice lunch here on the patio. Service was very good and friendly. I was in the mood for a basic burger and theirs did not disappoint. My friends had a southwest chicken wrap– she said was excellent and it was huge and a smoked salmon sandwich. I really love fries and was sadly disappointed with their truffle fries that cost about $ 3.00 extra. I couldn’t taste any truffle to them and they weren’t great for even normal fries. Overall good experience and pretty patio.

Came for dinner after not being here for quite a few years. The Gashouse used to be known for great steaks and the perfect porterhouse. Unfortunately they no longer go the steak route and push game. Overall I was disappointed, just average at best. For the price I will spend my money elsewhere.

If your looking for a steakhouse in the Vail Valley, this is the only place you should consider. It will meet and execeed your expectations. Only one caution. .do not bring your vegetarian friends here !

As authentic and kitschy as you could ever imagine. Perfect experience for a great ski weekend in Vail/​Beaver Creek. And the food is absolutely fantastic — great quality from start to finish. Buffalo ribs a must and, crazy, yes — but their fresh oyster selection is brilliant. A perfect end to a great ski day.

FRED’S FRIED CHICKEN! Best fried chicken ever! Not to mention they give you enough for lunch the next day! They have a great menu all around from the wild game to the fresh flown in seafood to the daily soup special the really know how to make you feel like your right at home here in cozy edwards Colorado! Please go try this place they are truly one of a kind!

I got the Mac and cheese. It tasted like it came out of a frozen meal. The cheese sauce was super lumpy and it wasn’t good at all. At least the French fries were good.

This is a tough review to write. On the one hand this place has character and I think it is really cool. If you are visiting the Vail area, it is a place you should check out. On the other hand, I don’t know that the food is worth the price.
We stopped in on our last night in the area, as my wife has been coming here for years, part of a ritual when coming up the mountain. We started off with drinks and some ‘Rocky Mountain Oysters’ as an appetizer. We have never had these before and thought «why not». If you have never had them, our server described them as similar to chicken fried steak, and I would say he was pretty accurate. They were decent, and it was interesting to try something new.
For our main course, I had the venison chop and my wife one of the bison steaks. Whoever is grilling the meat in this place knows what they are doing. Both were cooked to a requested medium rare, and I thought both were delicious. That was the upside. The sides however, were where the meal fell down. The entrees come with a vegetable medley, which was lukewarm at best with both our meals. Both of us chose the truffle fries as an additional side included with the meal. They were undercooked, and didn’t have a great flavor either. We have definitely had better.
Our server was friendly and attentive, the place has a cool rustic, divey vibe, and the bison and wild game is tasty, but with the sides lacking so much, it is hard to swallow $ 25 – 35 a plate here.
