Effingham Tire & Auto Center

Dear people of Effingham,
Notwithstanding the very unfortunate name of your town (Go Effingham … Flaming Hearts!), you should consider yourselves very lucky. Driving from Indiana to Texas by way of Effingham, my car slowly — then rapidly — began to become undriveable. It was as though I had blown a tire, but all the tires were sound. I called as many auto repair places as I could find and none were willing or able to see me, but when I explained my situation, one of the neighboring businesses suggested I call these guys. They were appropriately busy, but checked their work orders and told me that if I could get the vehicle to them, they’d get it up on a rack in about 90 minutes and see what they could do. I was 10 minutes away if my car would make it, so I headed right for them and thankfully, made it to them without incident.
True to their word, they were ready to take my vehicle into the service bay less than 80 minutes later. But, as it turned out — that was easier said than done. The vehicle wouldn’t leave the parking spot. It could turn over and drive forward, but not backward (and «forward» was their front door, not the garage). But, after some doing, the got it into the bay and put it up on the rack.
Less than 30 minutes later, the mechanic had diagnosed the problem. The parking brake assembly had snapped off and piece of it were in the brakes catching and sticking and otherwise making the axle and tires work extra hard to spin, if they could spin at all. They didn’t have the pieces to fix it, so my options were to have them remove all the broken pieces and give me a fully working vehicle with no parking brake or … well, that was my option. I happily accepted. Another 15 minutes and the car was waiting for me out front. They simply charged me 45 minutes labor. A bargain for their excellent and fast service.
The amenities in their waiting room will earn them no awards but their (posted) long hours every day of the week and their «do good work at a fair price» attitude should.

What a wonderful experience. We traveled from Joliet, IL to Carbondale, IL when our tire developed a split in the sidewall. We called them, and they had us back on the road with four new tires, within an hour of arriving. Friendly and knowledgable staff provided us with an outstanding price. Thank you! I highly recommend this place for tires!

This place was great… can’t thank them enough. This was our third day on road headed to PA from AZ. Our minivan died on I-​70, Sunday morning around 5:30 A.M. Total shutdown of electrical system. Van dead!!! Managed to get it to side of road. We were in a dead zone and could not make a phone call. No connection at all. Finally, after about 20 minutes my flip phone connected to 911. Got 911 operator who sent State Trooper out, got a AAA tow for us to this repair shop. We were actually lucky enough to get hooked up to a place open on a Sunday and that was able to diagnose it, get the part and fix it and send us on our way in less than 2 hours. Problem was the alternator. Repair cost was fair and we were back on the road, kept saying it could have been worse, it was only a car repair. I was shocked we got out of there so fast. Every employee was efficient and pleasant. We were also kept informed of the progress. The place was really clean too. They did a great job.
