History

Established in 2005.

–Quality Food–

We value quality food. We make, bake, and create what we can with quality ingredients from cage-​free eggs to organic cinnamon to all-​natural deli meats. If we can’t do it ourselves, we love using local products!

–Roasted in Effingham–

It’s been a journey. In 2005 we dove into the coffee shop business with little experience. We knew Effingham would benefit from an all ages community hub. We just needed to figure out how to do it and do it well!

Thankfully our community and the coffee industry has been good to us!

After 5 years of super-​automatic espresso, we made the jump to a traditional La Marzocco GB5 espresso machine. After another 5 years of authentic barista experience, we made the jump to roasting with a Diedrich IR12. Coffee has become our passion over the years. We roast, we brew, we sip. We are very happy to bring you fresh-​roasted, small-​town, small-​batch, 100% Specialty Arabica coffee!

We’ve been stopping at Joe Sippers for several years as we travel between KS & OH. Nothing better than a good independent coffee place as we’d do without before going to Starbucks. Joe Sippers roasts their own coffee so always fresh and good. Bummed they aren’t open Sunday’s as that’s often when we have to travel through Effingham, but also glad they take time to be with their families.

This is a place I will always visit every time I come home for a visit. I dream about the Santa Fe wraps and the black bean salsa! This coffee shop has a great atmosphere and feels so inviting every time I come in. This is a wonderful place full of memories. If you have some free time to stop by I recommend that you do and try the Santa Fe wrap, it’s very yummy!

Joe Sippers is a great little café in Effingham. I used to come to Effingham every now and again to visit my moms family when I was younger. Joes is a great addition to the community! Great customer service and great food! We ordered the herbivorian wrap, southwest salad, nachos, two grilled cheese sandwiches, an americano and a cappuccino. I didn’t like the cappuccino and they made me a new drink; I chose an Americano and it is great!

My roommate and I stopped here for dinner on a cross country drive recently. We’re vegetarians so this seemed like our best option in the small town. The atmosphere here is great, open and clean with fun and comfortable furniture.
We ordered pesto melts but didn’t try the coffee since it was late in the day. The sandwiches were delicious although we thought the sides of plain tortilla chips were odd. I think serving potato chips with a pickle or even in-​house made baked potato wedges would work better and make it a bit more of a solid meal flavor-​wise.
The carrot cake though… OMG the carrot cake. Easily one of the best I’ve ever had, mainly because it wasn’t super sweet even with quite a bit of icing. One piece is big enough for two people to share.
It would be nice to see more vegetarian options on the menu although we were happy with what we got. Prices are fair. If this café was in our neighborhood we’d be back!

Well, this was a nice surprise. This place, just off Effingham’s town square, is a funky little café with plenty of tables. I came in for a late dinner at the beginning of the month and had a great cup of soup, a sandwich, and a very tasty latte. As someone who often is in Effingham for a period of less than 24 hours, I plan on coming back to Joe Sipper’s for a quick meal that won’t break the bank.

Great coffee shop with good sandwiches and salads. We are in vacation from KCMO to NYC and didn’t want a chain. Great place to stop. Had the grilled macoot cheese with bacon. Yummy! The homemade chips was an added bonus.

I love this place! I used to come here all the time back in high school and I’ve been a few times since then when I’ve been home. Can’t wait to start coming again when I move back to the area next month. It’s got an eclectic, indie atmosphere. This is a refreshing change from the chain restaurants on Keller. If you’re driving through on the interstate, consider driving the extra mile or two to come here and get a unique experience and support local business!
Joe Sipper’s has several vegetarian options, something that can be hard to find in Effingham. I recommend the herbivorian wrap. Their hummus is delicious but most of all their black bean salsa is AMAZING. Can’t say enough for how great this place has been for Effingham.

We stopped in for dinner, but found a coffee house with one sandwich listed on their blackboard. We didn’t see any menus or any other offerings, so we ordered the Pastrami sandwiches. They were very good, but we didn’t care for the bag of sweet potato chips that came with it — they were chewy — not crispy. We ordered a piece of cheesecake to split between us. We couldn’t even cut through the crust, and the cheesecake itself was dry and crumbly. We thought $ 25 was a little expensive for 2 sandwiches and one dessert. The music was loud and annoying for these two old fogeys. There were 3 guys working there, but we were the only ones in the place. And they weren’t spending their free time cleaning!

Local art on the walls! I love the Pesto Melt and the house cappucinno.
It is a bit pricey to buy your coffee beans here.

This is an excellent alternative to those free breakfasts offered by nearby motels along the interstate. Great yogurt parfait, pour-​over coffee, breakfast sandwich, quick service, friendly staff. Give this a try!

Effingham was the halfway point of a long drive and I wanted a late lunch plus some caffeine. I ordered a half southwest salad and cup of red pepper soup. I’m not a red pepper fan but the soup was awesome! The only problem is that it was served very, very hot. I was completely done with my salad (which was pretty good, btw) and had to wait at least 5 more mins before I could even touch the soup and it still burned me a little.
My latte was good and even came with a heart designed into it.
Now for the atmosphere: it’s definitely a small town shop. The older regulars are here but what I was shocked by was the eclectic group of people here. It’s definitely not your yuppie coffee shop that I’m used to. Everyone is pretty cool and they mind their own.
The décor is fun. Same tables throughout with non-​matching chairs. There are beans for sale and apparel.
Bathrooms were clean so that’s a plus!
I don’t think I’d go out of my way for this place but if I was driving through and needed a cup of joe, I’d come back.

My favorite local restaurant/​coffee shop. I’m crazy about the iced toddys, blueberry muffins, breakfast wraps, and salads. Its a great place to meet a colleague or friend for lunch as well. Free wifi, interesting art, and fun furniture makes the place inviting as well.

I was sorry to see they no longer had the «Effing Ham» sandwich. But! They did not disappoint with the chipotle chicken salad and a delicious New Mexico-​style green chile stew. The coffee is great and they even had a Chemex pot I was looking for for a friend of mine.

I absolutely love this place. It’s my first pick for breakfast and lunch. Sometimes dinner if I want something light. I love taking friends here for coffee and dessert also. Great place to sit and visit with friends.
The owners are great people and keep everything fresh and delicious.
My favorites are the salads and the Italian panini sandwich.

Possibly my first coffee shop experience in high school, didn’t know i had to toast my own bagel; not exactly a fan in the beginning.
Then I came back in the midst of my major tea obsession and tried their tea (Iron Goddess, something of the sort). It’s an Oolong tea and it’s divine. I live in San Diego now and I still have my mother ship a bag of the loose leaves out here every few months.
Also a plus if you have a deviant boyfriend/​friend/​etc who goes to court often, it’s just a little walk :)

Cute café. Although their smoothies were a little gross (mix, not fresh/​frozen fruit), it was clear from looking around the shop that they source most of their products at a higher standard than the average small-​town Illinois coffee shop. A lot of the brands were things you’d find in a Whole Foods.
Service was friendly, and the store itself was clean and spacious. On a weekday afternoon, less than half the seats were occupied, and a few people with laptops looked like they hadn’t moved in hours.
In all, not a bad place to stop if you’re a coffee drinker or you want a nice place to study.
