History

Established in 1919.

McCarthy Transfer & Storage was established by Leo B. McCarthy in February 1919. Prior to this Leo was strictly in the horse and wagon freight business from the railhead in La Mesa, Ca. Upon the founding of McCarthy Transfer in 1919 Leo saw the need to specialize in household goods. Leo ran and grew the business until his retirement in 1958 when his son Tom H. McCarthy took over the business. Tom moved the company to the industrial area of La Mesa, Ca on Commercial St. During Tom’s ownership he devoted many hours of time and equipment to his church and local Veterans’ organizations in the area. In 1978 Tom’s son, Tim, took over the company. Under his leadership McCarthy Transfer and Storage has grown from doing only local moves, to Local, Interstate, Military, Office & International Moves. Tim also moved the company to a larger, 21,000 square foot warehouse in El Cajon, Ca. The fleet has grown to over 20 moving trucks to meet any demand the moving public may have.

Meet the Business Owner

Tim M.

Business Owner

Tim has been running McCarthy Transfer for the last 30 years. He has grown the business to what it is today by providing great customer service. From his childhood he has always been involved in the moving business from his dad and grandfather. He would run crews and take shipments all over California. Now he works to make sure we will be here for another 90 years.

Tim is very active in the Moving Industry, currently he is serving as the Senior Chairman for the California Moving & Storage Association, the largest state association out there. He is highly active in the association and the Public Utilities Commission or PUC, helping customers in the fight against «rogue» movers.

This past February 19, 2016 marked our 97th year in the moving & Storage business and I personally invite you to stop by and see our facility and see how far we have come since my grandfather’s horse and wagon days.
