We enjoyed a our stay for the most part. It was on the street so the street noise was really distracting. The bed and pillow were very comfortable. The breakfast was in a small room that was cold so the food got cold quickly. The food was good although. We will stay there again if we can get a room not right on the street.

Our team of 6 had spent many nights at the El Dorado chain hotels over the past two years and, since we were only in town one night, decided to splurge on Union Square GC. I say splurge because the nightly rate was about $ 30 per room higher than our going rate at a popular chain. Pros: 1. We loved being downtown where we could dine at one of the many restaurants on the square and enjoy a couple of drinks then simply walk to our rooms. 2. One of our party was lucky enough to get one of the suites(#1 or #2) and had access to the lovely balcony overlooking the El Dorado square. 3. Rooms were lovely. From the single bedroom/study combo to the two bedroom suite, the eclectic furnishings and décor were beautiful. Nice beds and bedding, though the pillows were a bit mushy. Each room had varying levels of amenities from a full kitchen to a fridge/micro combination, to just a coffee maker. Be sure to specify your needs/requests when making the reservation. 4. Complimentary breakfast was great! Eggs, ham, biscuits, fresh berries, properly cooked oatmeal with toppings, cinnamon rolls, coffee and juice. Cons: 1. Truly, the only con I have to report(and unfortunately it can be a big one for some) is that every room but one required us to navigate about 20 stairs carrying luggage ANDTHEREISNOELEVATORORBELLMAN! Pack accordingly.

I like Union Square Guest Quarters. This is a non-traditional hotel in the sense that there’s really no front desk area, and no reception where anyone meets you. Also absent are things like room-service and such. Basically what you do is you make your reservation however you like, and upon arrival, you are given directions to a lockbox with a combination, which you enter. It opens revealing your key, and you have access to your suite. The lady who owns the place is very sweet, and will take your calls all hours, even if you’re coming into town late(i drove in around 10 pm), and was willing to help direct you to the parking area, and the lockbox, and the entrance to rooms. My room was beautifully decorated, with a nice big bathroom, coffeemaker, internet access, TV, and everything you need in a hotel room. I liked it a lot. Further, there were two balconies that overlooked lovely Downtown El Dorado, which was quiet, and you felt safe there. This is a good place for people who aren’t needy about having someone to be on call for them at all hours of the day. It gives you a quiet place to lay your head, but obviously don’t expect 5 star service there, as there really isn’t any service. I wasn’t able to get up early enough to make use of the complimentary breakfast, so I can’t speak to that side of things. Check it out, but don’t expect a full-service hotel. I paid $ 120+ for one night, which seemed kind of steep to me, considering rooms on the Vegas strip are going for less than $ 100, but I think it was worth it for where I was.
