The University of Texas At El Paso

Amazing university! I obtained my Bacelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and later went back for my MBA. I own my own construction business and was recently recognized as one of the largest builders in America. Thank you UTEP for the wonderful education I received.

I love visiting University campuses. El Paso is really not a destination for most folks because it’s located next to the border in the middle of the desert. I didn’t have high hopes coming to this school. What really struck me was how modern and clean this place is. I didn’t expect this at all. Unlike most East coast university, it didn’t have the classical look or feel at all. Kinda felt like a very nice community college. The lack of a large grassy mall with modern buildings probably created this atmosphere. Nonetheless, I was impressed with what I saw.

This university is truly a gem in the city of El Paso! I applied and was accepted and I am currently studying a bachelors in Social Work. I am really happy that I picked this school. I am a tad disappointed that some classes are taught in Spanish last time I checked this America. Spanish for Spanish speakers yes but there were several classed that I noticed were Spanish speaking classes. I got it we are close to Jaurez but geez Louise! The campus is well maintained as it should be because there is a fee in our tuition. Good place for higher education! I am proud to be a miner

UTEP is an awesome university and offers what all other major universities offer but on a more manageable scale and way more affordable. There has been some recent updates and the university is really expanding and looking great.
If you’re interested in the sciences, nursing, or international business the this is really the school for you. I did my undergrad here and loved it so much that I chose to come back for my doctorate in physical therapy. Oh, and the university is currently ranked 7^th in all US universities for actually being a research university (ie. not a party or sport based school), right behind Stanford.
Probably the only down side is the lack of school pride by some of the students. But you can’t really blame it on the university because they pride themselves on having a very diverse student cohort, with students being accepted from all over the world.

UTEP is ok. However, if you go in, make sure you have plenty of time. The students they have working in the academic services building are undergrads, and don’t necessarily know what they’re doing. I’m a graduate student in Education, and the student that was helping me thought M. Ed was a medical degree. Uh… yeah.

It’s an ok university. I think they claim to be an engineering school but the biomedical branch is a lot bigger than the engineering branch. It’s pretty laid back and the classes are not difficult. At least not the ones I took except for biochem 1 and 2. UTEP is pretty bad at paying their employees. If you are planning to work there, make sure you claim what you earned. Otherwise they will ignore the matter and keep the money. I’ve seen them do it to a lot of international students since they seem to be afraid to go claim their money. I guess they fear to be sent back to their country if they fight UTEP over their paycheck.
