Chef’d

Tried them for the very first time. Two meals that included fish. They delivered it today, not to my door as their web site states, but to the leasing office at my apartment complex which isn’t open hours during the week when I can get there. My apartment number was on there, but because it didn’t have a «#» sign next to it or the word «Apt» (which I put on everything, not sure why it was missing), the driver «couldn’t figure out where it should go.» Not sure why they didn’t ask the leasing office, they could have told him immediately. So now there’s a box of fish that will sit in the leasing office for six days because I can’t get there before they close tomorrow night, and then I’m away for four days.
They gave me a credit immediately, and they gave me a discount of the same amount for my next order, which was very responsive. But leaving me to deal with a six day old box of fish is unacceptable. They screwed up, they should fix it. I’m unimpressed, I’ll go with Blue Apron next time.
Update ⁶⁄₃: I really wanted to like these people. They gave me a credit for a future purchase, so I gave it another shot. Got home tonight all excited for my food… no box. Their (horrible) delivery service OnTrac, listed my package as «Refused to accept damaged package.» Since I wasn’t home, I didn’t reject anything. Said they’d deliver «Next business day.» It’s Friday, so that means Monday. Seriously, Chef’d is a mess.

I’ve been ordering Chef’d from the start. I tried the subscription services and rarely ate the 3 meals they sent me. I like being able to order just one meal at a time! The curry chicken is awesome and I am no obsessed with Choi Sum as a vegetable, but I still have no clue what it is. That is the best part about Chef’d, you can try ingredient you would never buy on your own! Trust me, you don’t need 16 ounces of Miso or these ridiculous amounts you have to by at the grocery store. Also, try the App, it’s legit.

Chef’d is the best service for those, who likes to cook and try different cuisines. It’s not subscription based and it has helped me cook like a chef without prior training. I don’t know, what I would have done without them!

After doing a LOT of research on these types of food delivery services (Plated, Hello Fresh, Blue Apron, Gobble, PeachDish, etc.), I decided to give Chef’d a try. The main reasons being there are NO subscriptions, you get to pick the dishes you want AND you can pay through your Amazon account. I work full time and have a 1-​hour commute each way, so making dinner sometimes doesn’t happen because the last thing I want to do is stop at the store on the way home. This seemed like a perfect solution. It also cost about the same or less as ordering out for the same amount of food. (2 dinners, for 2 people each for a total of $ 56 and free shipping)
I ordered the One Pan Orecchiette dish and the Weeknight Jumbalaya dish.
The box came on the day I picked and arrived in the late afternoon. I had received an email that it had shipped the previous day, so I was pleasantly surprised to find that the food was amazingly fresh and the meats were all still cold. Like, right-​out-​of-​the-​refrigerator cold.
I had my 17 year-​old son prepare the Orecchiette dish (I had a cold) and the directions were so good, that he did it with very little assistance from me. The recipe was simple but very good! I haven’t tried the Jambalaya dish yet, but will tonight. Based on the recipe, though, it looks like it’s going to be great!
I’m definitely going to keep using this service. Especially because I don’t have to worry about automatic shipments, or getting dishes I’m not interested in eating.

Love this service! So many times I’m too tired to even think about what to make for dinner at the end of the day. Husband ordered this for us to try. Directions were simple and food turned out amazing! Like eating at a restaurant. Best of all my kids loved it and even helped prepare the meal (lamb lollipops). We were all surprised that we were capable of making such a fancy meal!

The Christmas Goose. The smoked goose was perfect. The mashed root veggies to die for. Creamed spinach the best. The mushrooms to watery not a hit. The dinner was fabulous. I have never cooked with so much butter, but given it was Christmas it’s ok. The only stress was the delivery the first box arrived with the goose on time, the box with the veggies arrived late Christmas Eve day. The food comes packed well arrives cool with easy to follow instructions

Well we love Chef’d and now the in laws do too! We just ordered the beef bourguignon and had it shipped to their house. We arrived at their house on vacation and when it arrived right on time we cooked them dinner. Another great meal!

There are many things to love about this food delivery service. First, there are no contracts to worry about. You want a meal you order it, you don’t need one no problem, no pressure to order. The selection of available recipes to prepare is great. The descriptions are detailed, the directions are clear, and the ingredients are delivered in perfect shape and on the day promised. The portions are very acceptable, we sometimes have enough left over for an entire meal. We have tried about 8 of the entrees and all have been excellent. When we found one entrée to be a little spicier than advertised, customer service was easy to deal with and a complimentary replacement entrée was immediately provided. We are completely satisfied with Chef’d and highly a recommend it for anyone looking to broaden their culinary experience.

Wow, I’m blown away by this service! Honestly didn’t think this kind of thing would particularly interest me as I consider myself a pretty good cook… got a few years under my belt of watching endless food shows and cooking. I love grocery shopping, and menu planning. But I’ve got to say that now that I have tried an experimental shipment of two entrees, I’m sold!
Likes: their website is super easy and fun to navigate as you can look up recipes based on different categories. Honestly, I can throw together a bolognese in my sleep, so I searched for ones that I have less experience with (which meant seafood). After drooling over many options, I chose to try Arctic Char with Vegetable Stir-​Fry and Finadene Sauce, as well as Red Snapper a’la Chaca. Ordered them on a Wednesday afternoon. Loved that they gave me an option of three different shipping dates. Since I wasn’t paying for shipping (it was free for orders over $ 40), I opted for Friday. Sure enough, it showed up at 4pm on Friday! From clear across the country! (I am in NC).
Packaged so well that I kid you not, the package was over 20 pounds. Everything arrived looking so good! I don’t know that I’ve ever seen raw fish look that great.
Having cooked both dishes, I can say they were both super delicious! And although they were each servings for just 2 people, I am a pretty small eater and got lunches for me out of my servings of each as well. Husband had no problem finishing off his though. (although was happy with his serving size).
TIP: Read and re-​read the recipes before you start them. Allow plenty of time, as the ones I chose were (purposely) slightly challenging. That is what I wanted, and I got it. Loved that someone else came up with the recipe, did the shopping, selected quality ingredients and had them all ready for me to create the masterpieces.
Especially LOVE that they don’t make you subscribe to a regular service… you can order as you want. Every other such service that I have looked at requires a subscription. Also love that this is Chef-​driven by Chefs that I both admire and are new to me, AND that there are so many HEALTHY options.
Note: This would make a wonderful GIFT. There are Vegetarian options, as well as Beef, Pork, Pastas… all different ethnic options… for folks of varying experience levels as well.
As for price, I was hesitant at first thinking that surely I could shop and do this myself cheaper. Now that I’ve done it, I really don’t think I could. Not with the ones I selected. Especially when you compare it with what you would pay for these restaurant-​quality meals in a restaurant.
TIP: Get on their email list. They sent me an offer for $ 10 off my first order. An offer I sure couldn’t refuse!
One more quick note: their customer service is super friendly and informative.

Edited to add that I have now tried four more entrees. Husband went nuts over the Beef Bourguignon, and ate almost the whole thing himself. It’s the only meal I’ve so far with no leftovers. Also tried the BBQ Sushi Tuna Satays. (VERY spicy). But the cool Mango, Veggie salad that went with it helped balance it out. This was accurately labeled with a three pepper spice level. Also did the Pan-​Seared Sea Scallops with Forbidden Rice and Snap Peas. What beautiful scallops! This dish had so many levels to it. Also enjoyed the Vietnamese Bun Cha. Yummy pork meatballs with rice noodles & veggies. All these came with wonderful fresh herbs.
I continue to be very impressed and having lots of fun with this!

Not only do they portion out every ingredient, they make sure the quality is top notch. Its like the easiest way to cook a f*^*ng good meal.

My daughter (7) and I had great fun with our first experience cooking a meal using CHEF’d. Placed our order easily, picked our delivery date, and onto the front porch came the big orange box filled with our fresh, pre-​portioned ingredients for a great meal. While we ordered for 2, we had plenty for two adults and one child. We opted for the beef bourgignon, a savory classic dish that we prepared with mashed potatoes and green beans. Quality of the ingredients was excellent; great cut of tenderloin (really tender/​flavorful), very fresh herbs and produce. It was fun turning the experience into a cooking lesson with my kid, who enjoyed taking out the ingredients and following along with the helpful recipe card. (The final dishes were beautiful and delicious; there was some lick-​the-​plate-​clean action going on.)
Thoughts: While it isn’t cheap exactly, it was less then we would have paid in a restaurant, to be sure. There is a lot of packaging, but the company seems to be working hard to make green solutions in how they package, with guidelines provided. This is a fun concept, and they have some really cool partner chefs and cooking organizations lined up to add fun dishes to the mix. We enjoyed the website, too, which was easy to use and tempted us with all the great looking food, yum! Looking forward to seeing what else is on the menu!

My friend sent us the CHEF’D gourmet food box as a gift. We cooked the Tandoori chicken drumsticks with Israeli couscous and stuffed chicken with goat chese and carmelized fennel and mushrooms! We had a blast and the flavors were top notch and delicious! I would definitely recommend this service to anyone interested in time saving, efficient and amazing gourmet meals.

I ordered the Chicken with goat cheese, wild mushrooms and fennel. 5 star restaurant quality meal in my own kitchen. Easy to prepare and so much fun! Every bite was to die for. I like that I don’t have to subscribe, and I can choose the meal that I want when i want from celebrity chef recipes. Really cool. I’m cooking the pan seared halibut with curried salad for this weekend.

We had My daughter and I made two of the dishes together to enjoy with our family and my husband I prepared and enjoyed the other two meals. The quality of the fresh organic produce and fish was excellent. Each package can perfectly packed in airtight bags with the ideal exact amount of seasonings etc. This experience allowed me to «think outside of the box» when preparing meals and allowed me to learn to utilize different spices when flavoring side dishes. I am not a typical «recipe follower». But, I did with these meals and they were much better then those we’ve enjoyed at many of the finer dinning places that we frequent.
I am a firm endorser in this concept and will continue to be a customer for life. I would like to thank you for the experience. My home cooked meals going forward will be more interesting and different then our past.

What a wonderful concept! After 35 years of cooking daily dinners for my family, I was so tired of my tried and true recipe’s and too intimidated to try anything new.
Chef’d has introduced me to the «foodie» experience without me having to invest in a bunch of random ingredients.
Everything needed for an imaginative and absolutely delicious meal is pre measured and packaged in a insulated box delivered to my door, along with simple step by step illustrated instructions. These meals are not only delicious but make a gorgeous presentation and take less than an hour to prepare. My family is delighted and I feel like I have a sous chef helping in my kitchen.

Fantastic service. The food is, A-​mazing. The quality of the meats are top of the line. It’s so nice to come home at the end of the day and have everything you need, totally measured out and ready to go. My favorite dishes were the Maple glazed salmon and the Beef Bourguignon. delish! Can’t wait to see all of the meal choices as this company grows.

I’ve had the pleasure of cooking several of their meals and have yet to be disappointed. Even for the novice home cook, recipes are easy to follow and result in some pretty tasty dinners. Chef’d is an excellent way to get you cooking outside of your comfort zone and away from your typical rotation of home cooked meals.
Meals come pre-​packaged and portioned with detailed, easy to follow step-​by-​step recipe cards. Some recipes are accompanied by a video tutorial. Finished recipes often result in restaurant quality dinners at a fraction of the cost.
Chef”d would also make for a great alternative for your next dinner party.
