I thought the wine was just ok. The grounds were nice. The tasting room was a bit crowded. Overall it probably had the best vibe of any tasting we did in Sonita so you should definitely stop if you’re there.

Love this place and the owners have always been onsite when I have been there. Their wines are incredible. Nice selection of wines you can drink now or those you will drink 10 years from now. They are so willing to share their in-depth knowledge. Sign up for their newsletter!

My favorite Arizona winery. I make the hour drive and do a tasting with my wife as often as I can. The owners are always so nice and engaging. The tastings are $ 10 and include a Callaghan glass to take with you. Bring your own glass, doesn’t have to be one of theirs, and the tastings are only $ 5! The winery property is a very nice place. They just put in a large covered patio with plenty of seats for the weekend crowds. They accept CC in the tasting room and have their entire lineup available by the bottle and case.

I really like the wines that they produce but the tasting room was hectic, like cattle call busy. Literally they just asked what you wanted and weren’t interested in actually talking about their wines. Wasn’t the intimate experience I like.

Definitely suggest stopping at Callaghan Vineyards during your trip to Sonoita. They were quite a pleasant couple and we enjoyed our tasting experience. We were even poured a couple wines off of the tasting menu. Our favorites(the ones that we purchased to take with) were Ann’s and Padre’s, and they were reasonably priced.

My favorite place in Sonoita for wine. The reds are all very good, we couldn’t pick just one! And the good thing about this place is that they speak highly of the other vineyards in the area and recommend competitor wines, so they are not snobby. The LISA white is the best white of all the vineyards in Sonoita in my opinion and white is not a focus in the region due to the weather and soil. We got a bonus tasting as well! The dessert red is very good also and the only dessert wine we bought from the area. $ 10 for a tasting/glass and the best of all the wine souvenir glasses in the area, very large goblet size and sturdy. If you buy a glass there you get discounted tastings throughout Sonoita. A hidden gem!

What an amazing slice of wine country. The Callaghans are doing such great work– on and off the vineyard. Their wines are stunning and such strong representations of this region’s potential.

The quality of wine, service and atmosphere is top notch. Kent Callaghan’s passion for his craft is inspiring. If you haven’t visited the beautiful Southern AZ region of Elgin/Sonoita, you must. You’re in for an unexpected & pleasant surprise. It’s unique rolling hills and grasslands with mountain vistas are beautiful! Easy to get to and fun to experience. We walked out with 3 bottles of wine.

Very passionate vineyard. Excellent explanation of region and wine conditions. Very special smaller batch vineyard with a focus on the balance of natural conditions. Callaghan was an awesome guide through the winery.

The views… the wine… I always want to camp out on the patio for long periods of time whenever I visit Callaghan Vineyards. This is one of the most charming estates in Southern Arizona wine country, as well as some of the state’s highest quality wines. Don’t rush your visit, take time to relax, sip your way through the selection, and enjoy the slower pace.

The wine was much more expensive than the other vineyards. It also wasn’t a very inviting atmosphere that made you want to keep trying wines. And the wine selection was not my favorite. Beautiful area though!

A lovely place, starting from the décor to the wine. You’ll be wooed by sultry notes emanating from the menu, the wine, and the staff.

I’ve been going to Callaghan winery for the last 6 years. It has always been my favorite winery in the Sonoita area. I noticed there were some nice additions to the tasting room and now picnic area when I went this year. In addition they have had a change in staff Lisa and Jennie and so nice and friendly, and the wine glasses are pretty cool too. Take home a bottle of my favorite Padres or Back Lot if you go!

Edited b/c that Tannat and Petit Verdot are 5 star worthy! Also, Kent and Lisa are so cool, they elevate the wine experience:) I have to say that this is hands down one of my favorite wineries in AZ, the other two are AZ Stronghold and Lightning Ridge. Kent Callaghan is such a laid back, chill guy but does he know his wine! My favorites here are the Petit Verdot, the Mourvedre, and the Back Lot and Anns. This is one of the few wineries in the state that I can enjoy both the white wines as well as the reds. I am a fan of the wine and the winemaker, so please swing by and check it out!

Before heading to Arizona on this vacation I had done some research on things we could do in this part of the state. I didn’t print anything out or write any notes, but I made a mental note that there were vineyards in this part of AZ and I knew I would be interested in doing some tastings and figured Sue would be as well. When we met up with my friend the day we arrived up in Scottsdale I had mentioned going to wine country when we were down visiting this part of the state. She told me she didn’t think there were any wineries in state. Or at least none that she heard of. I started to doubt myself. Maybe senility was starting early for me. Turns out I’m not going insane. There is wine country in and around Elgin, AZ. Not very far from where we were staying in Patagonia. After looking at a map of the area, Sue and I charted a course. We thought we might do 3 or 4 vineyards, but only ended up doing 2 as we didn’t allot enough time for more. Our first stop was Callaghan. A tip for those not in the know about this wine country. It seems most of the vineyards charge $ 10 for tasting initially, but with the tasting you get to keep the wine glass from that vineyard. With that glass you can get tastings at the other vineyard’s for $ 5. I believe that if you bring your own glass from home you can get a tasting for $ 8, but I’m not sure if that works everywhere. Anyway this is a great way for all of the vineyards to get some love. You won’t see large tour buses of folks coming to these parts looking for free wine tastings. That is a good thing. For our $ 10 apiece we had 6 tastings each. You get to choose which wines you want. I believe they had around 14 different types they were pouring from so between the two of us we had just about everything they had on this day. The tasting area was a bit of a chore to get to as it seemed like a good portion of people were crowding around that area even if they weren’t tasting. It was quite annoying. Sue and I found a table out front as the weather was perfect and we would both rather be outside than crammed into a tasting area with people who refused to move. A good first vineyard, but there was more to come…

More interesting dry reds here. Callaghan have managed to get some international acclaim for some of their reds, and it’s easy to understand why. No water, soft-drinks, snacks or other victuals available here. It’s wine. wine all the time. It’s also located in a no-nonsense prefab building with a small porch and limited seating. The wines are good enough that I hope one day they’ll have a more accommodating space for tastings.

We love stopping in here– great staff and great wines. I usually find that I like most of what they have to offer. Their tasting flights are 5 $(10 $ if you need a glass) which includes 5 pours. I’m not a massive port fan, but their Red Dessert Wine 2009 was a huge hit with my friends. Pairs nicely with chocolate. Goldie’s 2011 was also nice, unusual flavors of cream and lemon. I can;‘t complain about anything here really, we always have a really nice time stopping in. Great tasting room/

Ok Napa Valley wine snobs, get ready to get blown away. I stopped in with low expectations with a group of 8 but after just a couple of tastings I began to realize that Arizona is producing some kick ASS wine. For $ 10($ 5 if you bring your own glass) you will be treated to 5 generous pours of Arizona’s finest. Each every glass was unique and top quality. Our server(Allison) was delightful and knowledgable. She took the time to explain each pour and made our experience super enjoyable. The tasting room is casual and is basically a warehouse. The winery is a small production that focuses on expertly crafted reds, but they do bottle whites as well and their Port style dessert wine is NOT to be missed.

1st time ever visiting the Soniota area. What a beautiful part of Arizona. Callaghan is one of many wineries in the area. What a great little find. The winery itself –building & tasting room was nothing special, but their reds were delicious. Nice thing about the wineries in the area, if you purchase a glass from any winery you can bring the glass to any winery and just pay for the tasting. I purchase the Buena Sueta & the Padre, which were both very good.

Don’t miss this place. Very good wines, friendly folks. The Lisa’s is a great white summer wine and the Padres is a really cool red!
