I came in with 2 dogs for vaccines and some concerns about a probable tooth abscess. The vet was willing to forgo the assessment fee for the tooth because I was also getting vaccines. Try to get that discounted at one of the bigger animal hospitals, I dare you! I got some straight talk about the tooth which set my mind at ease and he took a long time thoroughly assessing my dogs. Also the vet did a nail clip while I was there for the cheapest price I have ever paid. Probably because the dogs really needed it but they are very dramatic about their nails and he did an amazing job. He also got a tool and pinched the rabies tags onto my dogs collars while I was there instead of handing me the tags and having me deal with it. Highly recommend this place.

I have a 1 year old Frenchie/​Boston mix who recently starting have worsening skin issues. She always had a few issues, but the vet I went to at the time would just give her an rx for Clavamox and send me out the door. She started having open sores from scratching, a bad smell and extreme hair loss. The other vet suggested a treatment plan that was over a thousand dollars up front without any guarantee. I love my dog and I would try to figure it out but honestly I didn’t want to go back there, they never seemed to help her. So I called this place on a recommendation from a FB group I belong to, made an appointment and off we went.
First off this place is so down-​to-​earth. They actually listen to you. Not a fancy place but I’m more than okay with that.
Second is that they actually talk to you and make sure you understand what is going on up front… instead of after. My other vet I would go to pay the bill and no one had even given me a clue as to what the pricing was.
Third is they actually care.
Elgin Westside Animal Hospital pretty much saved my dog. No one else would help me without a tremendous up front payment and/​or a bunch of useless prescriptions. I am so happy to report she is on the mend, happy and growing fur back! Highly recommended!

Have been bringing my pets here for years. Always quality care from a very knowledgeable staff.
I brought my cat in to be put down after an incident with another animal, they asked to let them try to save her and though looking a little worse for wear the cat is content and healthy enjoying a blissful second chance.

Willma C, never ere again shot my dog up with a bunch of drugs didn’t explain anything bill was huge Dr’s view was if it works it works no one lives forever??? WTH!!! Part of my family cold to the bone!!! Never ever again Staff was very caring and probably embarrassed for him I would be!!! Retire already!!! Plus his loud arrogant to be upset my poor baby !!! Never ever fearful @ the Dr office!!! Hope nobody visit s there ever!!!

DO NOT TAKE YOUR ANIMSLS TO THIS VET. I took my dog to this vet to have teeth removed. I dropped him off around 7:30 or 8:00 am. Was told by his staff that they would call me. I worked from home and stayed by the phone. When I called there at 1:00 to ask about him was told dog was doing okay and the would call me before 5:00. I didn’t hear from them so I called at 6:00 to get a message saying they were closed. I called the emergency number to be told by the Vet’s wife that she was busy, I could try calling the Vet and he may answer but he had plans that night. I got him on the phone to be told by him that they don’t call anyone, that it is my fault that the dog was still at the office, and I could collect my dog in the morning. I told him that maybe I misunderstood his staff BUT the very least they could have done was to call me to ask if I was picking up the dog and not assume I was abandoning the dog. I told him that it was not acceptable to have the dog there overnight, and I was not paying him to board the dog over night. I never had any intention of leaving my dog there overnight. His office had told me they would not give the dog any water or food because of the surgery, and I wasn’t going to have the dog go 24 hours without water. He complained about having to go back to his office but he did it. The next thing I would have done was to go to the police if he did not return my dog. He is the most arrogant and cold Vet I have ever had an experience with. His policy of not calling owners is the most ridiculous business practice. There are a lot of good Vets in the Elgin area. This guy is not one of them. He needs to retire and let Vets who really care take over.

I am so grateful to Dr. Van Pouke and his Office Manager Mary for all they help they gave me to make my relocation to California so much easier.
I was a customer of another vet’s office but they were unwilling to help me when I had to get heath certificates for them to fly. I was in California and had to fly in to pick them up and had no time for a vet visit so Dr. VP came to my house while my cat sitter was there and checked them out for me. Bless his heart for looking at my cats even though they had not been his prior patients. I only wish they had been! The office was super friendly and on top everything I needed to make my trip (and theirs) easier. This is the type of service you dream of for your beloved pets. I highly recommend his office!
