There service department is ridiculous!!! I had my brakes done elsewhere 7 months ago so I know they’re fine! They were trying to tell my husband I needed rear brakes. Are you kidding me? They’re brand new! The brakes I have on there have about 5k miles in them and you’re going to try and tell me I need new ones? What a bunch of untrustworthy liars. If you’re going to tell me I need something, don’t tell me I need something I just replaced. I know they need to up sell and pad the bill, but that’s uncalled for. Don’t believe anything this place says in service!

Do NOT buy a car here! The sales person, Aldo, worked with us to negotiate a ‘walk out the door’ price. He then went to his manager who told him/​us that the price was too low and they couldn’t afford to let it go. Be aware of HIDDEN charges — at the last minute — they included a line, «McGrath Package — $ 600» this is their service where for one year they change tires, repair dings, fix your windshield. In the online advertised price, this was included with the cost of the car. In the showroom it was an additional line item. Aldo and his manager give new definition to sleazy used car sales people. DO NOT BUY A CAR FROM THEM.

I couldn’t believe how unprofessional this dealer was. I went there for a engine light sensor problem. To diagnostic the issue, it took around 2 and a half hours. (AUTOZONE TOOK 5 MINUTES) Then the guy comes out and tells me is a sensor issue, I’m like yes I know that so fix it. since I have warranty with them. He tells me they would have to order the part and that it takes 1 or 2 days to get. So he’s like i will call you when the part arrives. 1 week later not 1 call yet. I guess since it’s covered there is no additional profit and don’t give a you know what! about their customers. This is not the first time I have a issue with this dealer. When I went to buy my car there, They had the vehicle I went to look at for a $ 1000 more than what their ebay listing store said they wanted. So he tells me it was a pricing error. So I told him forget then, and he goes back and tells me how lucky I am to get it for that price.

So far so good with McGrath Honda. For years I’ve been in American trucks. I got steered toward Pilot and with this store in my backyard I focused on McGrath. Three visits later I got a used Pilot at their price and got my price for my trade. The push from the F&I guy to buy an extended warranty and some sort of magic goo for my windshield was pretty aggressive, but that’s their job.
My buy was on Friday night. I was impressed with something that happened after the sale. I called SiriusXM to switch my satellite radio from my trade-​in to the Pilot. I fully expected this to be a customer service phone call nightmare. It turns out that McGrath had already cancelled service on my old car and setup a 90 day trial on the new-​to-​me Pilot. SiriusXM was ready for my call and the account was already transferred. Nice.
I see some one, two and three star reviews that have me wondering about the service department, their misdiagnoses, puffed up pricing and sales of unneeded service. I’ll update this review after I start using the service group.

I purchased a 2015 Pilot last year from McGrath and started having my vehicle serviced there as well. Long story short, my experience with McGrath is that their service department acts very interested in trying to fix your problems but never seems to actually fix the problem. I had issues with my brakes (coincidentally, this occurred almost immediately after they sold me on their «brake inspection and cleaning/​lubrication» service) that comes up around your second oil change. My brakes were pulsating, etc. at various speeds after only about 12,000 miles. They said they had to grind the rotors. The same issue occurred again in the low/​mid 20,000 mile range and they basically told me there was nothing they could do so I should just drive with them like that. My overall sense is that they just do not want to honor any warranty work unless they are pushed very hard to do so.
I finally went to Valley Honda In Aurora/​Naperville after my wife and I had very positive experience there with her Honda CRV Purchase. Valley Honda replaced the rotors under warranty in less than 2 hours. I wouldn’t bother wasting my time (or money) with McGrath ever again. Valley Honda seems to have the whole «customer service» thing figured out…

This is for service: I had trouble with my steering wheel shuddering every time I stopped and brought in at least three times for the problem. Even said I think it’s my shocks, each time they said there’s nothing wrong with them but oh wait, maybe it’s XYZ. So I try XYZ and still didn’t solve the problem. Finally I brought it to Midas in Dundee, and voila, it’s my shocks! Fixed it and haven’t had an issue since!
Today I brought in my car for an issue with my radio getting very staticky and again, couldn’t find anything wrong with it but oh wait you need new transmission fluid and brake fluid. Why are you checking my fluids if I’m asking about an electrical issue? I feel that they don’t solve my problem but don’t want you to leave without paying for at least $ 300 bucks!

They have done all of our factory recalls, but also my periodic maintenance. They over deliver in their service.

My wife and I were in the market for a Honda Accord. We told them that we wanted to set up a test drive. We were greeted at the door by Jesse Fisher, and we told him we only had about 45 minutes. The car was ready for us when we got there, and after the test drive we wanted to look at the Sport model as well. We did, and went inside to crunch numbers.
Jesse was well aware that we had limited time and he respected that. We didn’t feel any pressure to make a decision that second. We told him we would be in the next day around 10:00 am to make the purchase.
We called before we got there at 10:00 and Jesse was waiting for us. When it came time to discuss financing, we worked with Bernardo Palmerin. He took his time explaining the difference between the warranty packages pushing one over another.
Jesse and Bernardo were very knowledgeable and low pressure. We came in, got what we asked for, and left happy!

I went to McGrath looking to compare the Honda Odyssey to the Dodge Caravan. Kevin was very helpful and knowledgeable about the Odyssey and what it offers. We were not pushed into buying the car. Kevin gave us a lot of options to go with in purchasing the van. He gave us great value on our trade of 2003 Honda Element. Highly Recommend dealing with Kevin in the future.

Ok. I was in the market for the last 6 months to buy a Honda HR-​V. I went to McGrath Honda in Elgin and spoke with Michael Malak, about the newest Honda SUV. Well, Michael was not only helpful and knowledgable about the vehicle, he told me that if I ever had any questions, to just call him, and if/​when I was ready to purchase just call him or drop by… No pressure, No bull. Well after 4 visits to Michael, and careful financial planning, I went home with my new 2016 Honda HR-​V. So don’t waste your time at other dealerships, if your looking for a new or used Honda, go see Michael Malak @ McGrath. You will have a pleasant buying experience from a true professional.

Do not buy drivers plus! They do not send the supposed coupons. They also try to not use it when you even have the receipt. Also runs out before you can use it more than twice. Although they are still giving my oil change for free because I was getting ready to walk, I walked away without getting all my proper inspections done.

Horrible experience and they sent me an email begging for high ratings in a survey, asked me why I wouldn’t give them an excellent rating, and never responded to my email! Don’t ask for my feedback if you don’t want it. This is what I sent them…
I made an appointment and brought my CRV in yesterday due to the brake and traction light coming on and was told it would be a $ 75 diagnostic test. I waited in the lobby for the results, and after about 1.5 hours was told by Dennis that I needed to replace the front and rear pads and rotors, brake flush, repair a nail in my tire, and power steering and rear difference fluid exchange. He continued to say that I was «told» two appointments ago to fix my brakes and didn’t do it.
When I asked how much that would be, he didn’t have a total or itemized statement, and I offered to add it up for him. Once we added it up, it came to over $ 1600. I explained to him that the tire was under warranty through Discount Tires so not to do that (where he continued to say that they may already be working on it). I told him I did not authorize that, and he said he was going to «try» to stop them. He then offered to do it for free, if I did the other work, which didn’t help me considering I can already get that for free somewhere else. I told him I didn’t feel comfortable making a $ 1600 decision right now, and I wanted to do some price comparison. He then said my car was not safe to drive due to the back brakes, and I could get a loaner and if I gave him a couple of days he would try to do it cheaper. At this point, I said no because I felt like I was no longer being offered what I needed done on my car, but was negotiating prices for things that didn’t even matter. I began to question if he was trying to take advantage of a pregnant woman by saying it was an «unsafe vehicle» or if he really had my best interest in mind. I no longer trusted anything about the situation. I declined all services.
He left to go stop them from fixing my tire, and didn’t come back for another 25 minutes. When he did, he again told me it wasn’t safe to be driving my car and that I needed to pay the $ 75 AND, if I was to get a survey, to make sure I gave him all 5s — it’s his personal report card. He explained that they weren’t doing car washes due to the cold and my car was parked in the service center. I again explained that I would be leaving with my car and he walked away. I paid the $ 75.
When I walked out of the service office, I couldn’t locate my car in any of the spots outside the doors. I continued to walk down and found my car not in a parking spot, but parked past an empty office space between some machinery at the other end of the building where no one else was even being helped. Is this the treatment people receive when they decline services?
At no time did I say that I wouldn’t consider coming back; only that I wanted to do some price comparison. I bought my car at your dealership and have gone there for most services needed over the last 5 years. After his behavior and the treatment at that location, I will not be coming back for any additional services or future car purchases. I brought my car to Firestone today and was quoted almost half to perform the same services, so I’m not sure if it was Honda or Dennis trying to take advantage of the situation.

After the McGrath St. Charles forgot my lug nuts, had my car face plant into the road while driving, had my car for two weeks to fix and tried to give me my car again with missing lug nuts (that were inside my car on the floor in the parking lot of the dealership that I took pictures of). I went to the Elgin McGrath hoping to get better service, after trying to buy me off with new tires and a lettuce entertain you gift card for trying to basically harm my child and me by giving me a car with missing lug nuts. I had my car serviced last week, which included a tire rotation… BIG MISTAKE… maybe about 4 lug nuts were tight, the rest were holding on for dear life! my car was making the same popping noise that I heard when the St. Charles McGrath forgot them. Completely at a loss for words, checked my tires and could literally with one twist, pull the lug nuts off. One star given only because I needed to in order to write this review.

Went to purchase a car and they had an advertised price on their website. Basically went there to go buy the car in cash and they would not honor the advertised price. What is the point of putting prices on the Internet if you are not going to honor them?

I am reviewing the service. I have not bought a car there. I was driving home from IU where I picked up my daughter for semester break. The car was making a noise which I attributed to the recent brake job we had done at McGrath Honda in Elgin. We were on 65N going about 60mph. I was getting off to get some coffee. All of a sudden the car started vibrating and the semi in the next lane was honking and pointing at my front wheel. At that second that wheel flew off, hit the trailer part of a semi, bounced back across my windshield and landed in a field. I was able to get to the side of the road and called a tow truck. When the driver arrived, he looked at the remaining front tire. There were only 2 of the 5 lug nuts on it! We were unable to locate that tire to examine that tire. Based on what I’ve learned, lug nuts were not put on or they were put on too tightly and broke off. McGrath paid for our expenses and mileage and body work. We are never going back there! ever! BE CAREFUL!!!

After purchasing 10 Honda’s from McGrath Honda over 40 years, I thought I had worked out a sale via email with a salesman, George Orton. Only to have a lesser model pulled up for a test drive, the salesman show up late to a scheduled appointment, and several phone calls asking for me to bring more $$ for the down payment. Despite my better judgement, I agreed to proceed with the sale, only for the salesman tell me, «it’s ok with Honda if we don’t make the deal.» Apparently, McGrath doesn’t want our business anymore. I was able to make the deal at another Honda dealer and saved almost $ 1000, as well. Seems McGrath thinks they’re entitled to push devoted customers away instead of doing the right thing by treating existing customers with respect, gratitude, and fairness. So long, McGrath Honda.

I purchased my 2014 Honda from this place and while I do not know of the whole staff, my overall experience has been pleasant. I did do my research and diligence beforehand which I would highly recommended. Regardless of whichever dealership you choose, ALWAYS do your preliminary research and read your contracts carefully.
For sales, I recommend Derek who is very nice and personal. He was not pushy and overall just made me feel very relaxed and he didn’t come off overbearing or trying too hard to make a sale. I would be coming back to Derek if I purchase another Honda again.
Now like with other places, they will push hard on the extended warranty, which is the reason why they didn’t get 5 stars. Derek didn’t do this but the finance guys will and every transaction will have to go through them to approve. So if this is not something you want, make sure to say No often and a lot. Don’t be passive, otherwise you will be there forever.
It took me 30 full days of research, test driving, price comparison, and I chose this place to do business with in the end. My biggest tip is if you can find a decent dealership close to home, go with that one. The reason is because when you need to come back for anything, it will be very convenient. I cannot tell you how many times I feel relieved to be able to do this. Since the purchase of the car, I’ve come back almost 10 times for oil changes, tire rotations, checkups and the free car wash. And when I come back, they do make feel like I’ve taken care of, which to be honest, surprised me.
I really like their special of 2 free oil changes and 1 free tire rotation when you purchase here. Also the unlimited car wash is so useful in the winter months to wash away all of the salt. Those things alone are a great value that I’ve made use of fully throughout the year.
Also, every time you get service they usually print out coupons for oil change discount and free tire rotations at the end of your invoice. They also have a sign that says «Oil change in 30 – 45 min or less otherwise it’s free» which I thought is kind of cool. Oil change with coupon is usually $ 30 and tire rotation is about $ 12. If your car is in the shop for a bit, you will get a loaner. They always wash your car after a service if you OK it.
Their appointment system is easy to use: online or call in by phone. They will also send you appointment reminder emails as well. For service: I recommend Dennis. I was just here twice in one week for inquiry about my fuse box and they fixed it complimentary. Also, my coolant and window washer was low and Dennis took care of me too. They are definitely doing a good job in the customer service department. I don’t think any car dealership is going to be perfect but if McGrath Elgin keeps this up, they are heading in the right direction. Customer service is key.

I made an appointment but when I showed up, it wasn’t listed and I was at the bottom of the queue. But what makes this dealership the worst I have ever been to was the lack of basic customer service.
This is the first dealership I have ever been to that did not offer water to its customers. No water anywhere. Coffee? Even if my kid can drink coffee, it’s all out. The vending machine only takes $ 1, so I asked the cashier to break a ten dollar bill for the vending machine, but she said she could not help me.
So here I am, spending $ 116 for tire rotation, some kind of break fluid change, and my free oil change (which was part of the $ 5000 Honda service package I purchased that apparently doesn’t even cover tire rotation), and McGrath Honda couldn’t bother to put a water cooler for its customers, and its cashiers were too busy chatting to get off their chairs to provide some basic customer service that would take no more than 30 seconds.
I do not plan to come back here again, ever. For the fact that the owner and the manager are too cheap to offer water, and that they failed to train their employees about serving their customers at the Service department.

$ 120 for an oil change. Seriously!
I’ll let my car fall apart before getting ripped off by these guys.

If you go to McGrath, I’d recommend Anthony as a sales rep. He was very patient with us did a great job working with us.
When the Manager came out to run numbers with us, they wouldn’t work with us on the price. Only when we got up to leave did they change their mind and decided to work with us…
THEN when we got to the financial people and they where so hell bent on her paying for an extended warranty. They’re to aggressive with their customers. After telling them over and over we weren’t interested in the extended warranty they were offering, they brought in another person to try and sell it. After arguing with them and telling them no, they finally stopped pushing us. If you customer tells you no, they’re not interested in something, that should be enough to stop and move on!
In my opinion, the financial department was very unprofessional on how they worked with us and how they treated us that evening.
