Sammy’s Mexican Grill & Bar

We live in Providence neighborhood close by and have recently started trying Sammy’s. Have had the chicken, steak and shrimp fajitas, as well as the Sammy’s burrito and have enjoyed all of it. The chips & guac are solid which is a big plus to me.
Can’t comment on the margaritas, only have had beer there and my wife was pregnant so she only had the NA one so far. Will continue going and exploring the menu for new items. Pretty solid place!

Try the Sopa Azteca! Delicious! A small bowl is enough for two but we love it so much
And ask to sit in Ricardo’s section. He’s very friendly and attentive.
We love this place! Came for an early lunch because it does get crowded.
The tacos are stuffed with goodies and everything is fresh!

This has definitely become my favorite Mexican restaurant. Their mango mojitos are so good! The food is all so delicious, but my favorites would have to be the sopa azteca, their tacos al pastor, and their tortas. Honestly a great place to go eat and drink!

The place looks nice and service was good, but food was not Authentic bland, guacamole was old and dark. The mole enchiladas had no flavor would not recommend, however my husband had Jalisco steak tacos was very good. The kids had steak tacos they said Taco Bell was better. My son didn’t like his torta but he liked the bread.

Delicious! We try something new each time and haven’t gone wrong yet. We’ve eaten at the restaurant and used carry out twice. This is a family favorite of ours.

…But be sure to bring your flask filled with tequila because there isn’t much in the margaritas. Food was average. Keep an eye your tab because we got charged for 2 extra margaritas we didn’t order.

Disregard any of the negative reviews! I have been wanting to go to this restaurant for quite awhile but it is 15 miles from my house. Not that I wouldn’t drive that far but it’s in a direction I just don’t frequent. That’s another story now.
I love Mexican food and eat often at different restaurants. Well, this is absolutely the best I have had around my area. And as far as the «high» prices, come on now. Enchiladas for $ 12, carne asada (skirt steak) for $ 16, costillas pibil a ridiculous $ 14. Sounds very regular to me. Anyone who is familiar with this last entrée knows the preparation involved, an incredibly flavored sauce with braised pork ribs and cooked in banana leaves. Unbelievably fantastic and a huge portion! Sure there are a handful of higher priced dishes (seafood for sure) but they are in line with what it is and how it is prepared. There are also lower priced meals as well.
Their table salsa is to die for, not hot and incredibly delicious. I bought an extra-​large container to take home. And their red and green salsa for tacos, etc. was again the best I have had. There is no doubt that they are all freshly made and they know how to blend their sauce flavors better than any others I have ever tried.
Also, their verde enchiladas as well as their rajas and relleno tacos were again, fabulous! .
I not only recommend Sammy’s but I’m dying to go back as soon as possible. Great job Sammy’s, you’ve got a patron for life.

My experience coming here for the second time, not to shabby. This time the establishment has grown, and seemed to have perfected since the last time I’ve been here. Right when i walked in, i was greeted and seated. My waitress was absolutely kind and attended me very well. As i was waiting for my food to arrive i took a glimpse of the place and saw how the owner and staff maintain the cleanliness, also the music that are played thru the sound system, something out the ordinary, latin music is being played, not just any type of latin music. Not your everyday Mexican type of music and radio station (la ley, la que buena, maxima) (banda, corridos, norteñas) that most of the Mexican restaurants that i have been too. They surprised me with (merengue, salsa, bachata, romance) being played. Outstanding in my point of view.
When my waitress brought my food, i look and my dish and see the food looks delicious. I have ordered the tampequeña. The taste of the skirt steak was absolutely well seasoned and juicy, the rice and beans were also a great.
My experience and review of Sammy’s is going to be a great one, even tho the food here is a little bit pricy, i can say its worth it. The taste is outstanding. I would recommend this establishment to anyone that love’s Mexican cuisines. Great place, Great vibe, Great Hospitality, Great time.

This place is fantastic. We go at least once a month, usually more. I am a sucker for the Sammy’s burrito. Everything I have ordered has been wonderful. Make sure you ask for the real sauces not that plain stuff they give you with the chips.

Delicious, authentic Mexican food. Great service. Great dining experience. We order take out at least once a week and is consistently good.

Very good. We got the parriyada for two. it was only 40 $ and we got sooo much food! Very friendly staff. Second time here and still very happy with their food.

We have frequented this restaurant a few times. The food is good but pricey in my opinion.
The reason I feel compelled to write a review today is because of the terrible experience ordering for pickup. Groupon and Sammy’s offered the option to place and order for pickup as a deal on a weeknight. When the order was placed no where did it say what time the food would be ready so I wrote in the notes section the time I planned on picking it up. I provided ample time for them to receive the order and make the food.
When I showed up at the exact time I stated the food was sitting on the counter waiting. I was happy at this point; things seemed to be working perfectly. The staff took my name and handed me the order. I drove home and began unpacking everything only to find I was short part of the order. When I opened the food we did receive it was soggy and deflated as though it was made too early.
I called and was told that the manager was too busy to speak so they asked me what I wanted and someone would get back to me. I only wanted a refund for the food I did not receive.
Long story short I was shorted on my refund and that made me more unhappy. I have reached out to the manager three times and have gone through Groupon as well. Sammy’s never made the situation right.
Too bad. They lost me as a customer.

I wanted to update my review based on my last visit. I have mixed feelings for this place. The food and margaritas are good. I haven’t had anything I didn’t like yet but I there are a few things where this place fell short.
1. I checked out their Facebook page before visiting and their Facebook said there was a margarita special for the day. When I was at Sammy’s we asked if there were any drink specials going on and they said no. So either their employees are not aware of specials or there is some kind of disconnect.
2. I ordered the chicken flautas which were very good. The menu said they came with beans and rice but mine did not come with any. The meal coming with beans and rice is the reason I ordered the flautas. Otherwise I was going to order the individual tacos. Our waitress never came back to check on us or ask how are food is so I was unable to ask about my meal.
If it wasn’t for those instances I’d keep the place as a 5 star review but sadly that’s not the case.

Just want to convey that Sammys is above the law. Did NOT Honor their promise to me for Awful service. Now denying terrible support /​delivering blackened food that is impossible to identify. Never again. The dude who called me last week was a joke
The lies in their comments are atrocious. Losing a customer base is probably not favorable. If anyone looked at the photo I posted of «fish,» not sure anyone would really crave burnt, neglected carry out food or otherwise. We gave this institution so much of our hard earned money and they lied about us. Not cool.

The Enchiladas are incredible — best I have ever had.
We get into this establishment once every few months — it is pricey for our current budget, so for us it is a date night type of restaurant.

Originally I’m from California and I’ve been searching for comparable Mexican food for over a year now. Sammy’s finally hit the spot for me — good food, friendly staff, and yummy drinks!!! The bar is also open late on the weekends which is a nice plus.
I wasn’t a big fan of the «flautas» as they seemed to be more like taquitos to me. But the enchiladas were delicious and their burritos are huge!
The take out is a nice option as they can get really busy at times. Order online!

I don’t know everything but I do know good Mexican food. I am Mexican, after all! I also grew up eating authentic tamales, enchiladas, tostadas, rice, beans, flank steak, you name it.
I do not do chains if I can avoid them and I love a good Mexican place in a strip mall. They are the best places around!
They are in the process of remodeling so there is some construction pending but I was seriously impressed by the guacamole which was not loaded up with onions like a lot of other local spots. The shrimp cocktail was the authentic Mexican version which was not what our couple friends expected but they gave it a whirl and were surprised at how good the shrimp were to eat. Plenty of appetizers to share!
I ordered a sangria and had no idea it was going to be served in a glass the size of my head but after my first sip, I was more than pleased about the mere size of my cocktail and the fresh fruits used to make it. Simply outstanding!!!
I am one to judge an Italian place on their bread and I know a good Mexican spot based on the Tacos Al Pastor so that’s what I ordered! Both my husband and girlfriend went for the fajitas and her husband ordered a few steak tacos with beans. Everyone was pleased. I literally could not find one thing wrong with my meal. Trust me, I tried. Zero issues overall!
Service was excellent, atmosphere, you can tell it’s going to be beautiful when it’s done. A full wrap around bar, new flooring and a true level of cleanliness, make me put this at the very top of my Mexican restaurant choices in the area.
Our wonderful friends were kind enough to pick up the bill but the little I glanced at prices on the menu, they were well priced… Especially, for the quality you received!
Planning a birthday dinner here for later this week and I think I’m going for the fajitas this weekend!
Definitely worth the drive out. Easy to find and excellent management and staff make this an easy place to love!

I live in the area and have been to Sammy’s many times. Some of my favorites: the LaPatrona margarita, the carne asada dinner is great, and the steak quesadillas are good too.
Some of my dislikes: the queso fundido with chorizo is WAY too greasy (there is a photo of the appetizer on their menu, but it has never looked like that when I ordered it), the restaurant is VERY small (although I know they will be expanding soon), their prices are a bit on the high side, and from past experiences I’ve had getting takeout, I always think you get less food when you order to-​go than when dining in.
That said, they are a solid choice for Mexican food in the area, and my family and I have ordered plenty off the menu. Although there are a few dishes that could improve, overall they’re a great restaurant.
