Scotts LawnService

A word of warning for anyone considering a lawn service: Do not use Scotts Lawn Service — Elgin. I responded to a flyer left in my door and decided to get a quote. I was very specific with my rep, Jim, about defining what they were going to do and how much I would be charged, but now after my first two treatments, he’s telling me I’ll have to pay for two additional treatments that he told me TWO DIFFERENT TIMES would be included in the original charge… an upcharge of $ 90! Plus… they came out today to do aeration and overseeding, and they just put down weed control two days ago which even I know will kill your new grass! Customer service even confirmed this when I called, and said Jim was «misinformed» about the pricing. When I called him, he started back-​peddling and said «unfortunately we weren’t on the same page». It was a classic bait-​and-​switch scenario, and I know he counted on me not being informed and just letting the services happen. That’s why he scheduled them in three consecutive days, so they’d be able to bill me quickly before I knew what was going on. I sent them away before they had a chance to start the aeration/​seeding, and canceled my service! I’m really glad I work from home so I could nip this in the bud. Be informed when you hire a service and make them be specific IN WRITING about what they are going to do and how much they will charge you.

We purchased a home in Barrington this year… we decided to cut our own lawn but we wanted to hire a fertilizing service. I looked at several services in the area and decided to go with Scott’s based on their quality product and reasonable pricing. We’re half way through the season almost and we couldn’t be happier, the grass looks Great: greener than the neighbors and no weeds! Most of the time Scott’s comes while I am at work; however, the most recent visit they came while I was home, and I had an opportunity to talk with out service technician Matt Akers. Matt gave me several pointers on watering intervals, grass cutting heights, and a few areas to watch. He was extremely knowledgeable and very friendly; I highly recommend them!
