Long before I started going to giant stores like Petco or Petsmart, Petland was the chain I most associated with pets and pet supplies. Over the years however, as branches in Manhattan disappeared they started fading from memory. So imagine my surprise when a Petland appeared in front of me as I was walking around downtown Elizabeth! Even more interesting, it was clear this building was newly renovated. The front of the store was bright and welcoming but still had the classic yellow and black«Petland» sign. Heading inside, I was pleasantly surprised to see super organized shelves, a very clean shop and it lacked that funky«pet smell» that many smaller pet shops adopt after a while. The store was getting a shipment in and organizing in the back, but the salespeople still dropped what they were doing to help me out. The gentleman who helped me check out at the register was very cool and friendly. The prices here are a bit higher than other places I generally go such as Petsmart, but they’re about on level with say, Cherrybrook(another smaller store). You won’t save a ton of money, but you won’t break the bank either.
