Almost Perfect Used Books

Continually the WORST customer service… So tired of their eye rolling and «oh geez. do I really have to work and answer questions!!» I enjoy actual books, not the «E readers» and luckily I can still go to Barnes & Noble at Arden or just order them online and have them sent directly to me.& a lot of the time it ends up being cheaper seeing as how they think they have the market cornered and can charge ridiculous prices… Trents Used Books on EG blvd @ Big Horn has far superior service and much better prices

This is a well organized and tidy store that contains many books of every kind at reduced prices, with assistance provided by pleasant staff.
It is part of a small shopping center with a good assortment of other shops and restaurants.

With Borders around you would’ve said hell no one star. But Borders is nothing but a distant memory now a vessel of the past. Theres something intriguing about the simplicity of the place, the way things are set up etc. Nice read + cheap never did anybody injustice. The only books that are full priced are the books that are brand spanking new making it 20−10% that would be full priced. Will be going here every time i have an itching for a reading as should everyone else in the surrounding areas who are itching for a reading.

Not impressed. Expensive, when you think of used books you expect lower prices. I bought three books which have no prices on them but the manufacture price. Went up to pay for my books and was told it would be a few minutes because of shift change. The lady was a bit Snarky/​Snob-​ish not what you expect from a used bookstore. I paid full price, I was told the books were new. The store is kind of messy, books on some of the shelves were not organized. Any how I will just go and enjoy my book shopping elsewhere. Amazon has great used books plus free shipping and no attitude. too bad «Almost New Used Books» is in a great area.

Bookstores are a dying breed, now with e-​readers and Amazon taking over. Almost Perfect Used Books has been able to survive, and it is such a gem!
I stumbled in here after finding that the local library down the street had a pretty small selection, and was able to find a few of the books (though not all) I was looking for at a very reasonable price! Two of the sci-​fi books I purchased were less than $ 2 a piece.
They also take books back for store credit, so another customer can enjoy the books that you’ve already read. The prize wheel is also kind of fun — I was able to purchase a clearance book for only a quarter!
I’m guilty of owning a Kindle as well, but when you crave the feel of flipping through pages and miss the smell of a good, physical book, this place will make it easy to you leave your digital reader behind.

This place used to be really cool a few years back. It seems like their book selection has diminished over the years. Way too many romance books and not enough classics. Also, there is one male employee who wears an obsurd headband who should not be working with the public! He did not great me nor my sister as we walked into the establishment, did not answer the phone as it rang a dozen times, and seemed slightly annoyed when I asked him if they had any books by a certain author. I sadly will not be returning here. I used to enjoy going here after a nice lunch at Labou, but now I’ll just take a stroll down to the library.

Was very cool. The employees seem to be very friendly and organized.
They had a great variety of books and genres.
I wish the shelves were labeled more clearly with how the books were organized, as I had a bit of difficulty trying to find a certain name.
They had some pretty good prices for their discount and sale books. But also their regular books were pretty cheap too!

Very great selection of books. A lot are in great condition and have good prices. They give store credit for books you bring in and are always friendly and helpful.

In fact, I think I’ll write a book about a book within a bookstore where a girl named Summer is behind a bookstore counter, searching the bookstore’s inventory online for a man named Edwin who is selling DVD’s to the bookstore wondering why no one has seen the movie, As Good As It Gets, while another lady donates books to the bookstore, leaving them on a counter next to the counter where Summer is scanning DVD’s and another lady from Florida patiently waits for service stating that she used to live near this bookstore but now enjoys the humidity of Coconut Grove and the main character (me) just wants to ring the little bell that says, ‘Ring For Service’, not because the service is bad, because it wasn’t, but because the bell is cute and an compilation of children singing Itsy Bitsy Spider really needed to be drowned.
I bought a free Bible for 25 cents.

Love the $ 5.00 gift certificates they send out for random holidays if you have an account with them, love the pretty big selection of classics, and love that it’s one of the last real books stores around!
Do wish you could use book credits for new books though.

Considering that I’ve been shopping here for nearly 20 years, this review is looong overdue!
While the location isn’t really ‘new’ anymore, the spot in the heart of Elk Grove is a vast improvement from the former spot in the vast Wal-​Mart shopping center. Near La-​Bou and Thai Chile, the new spot is also only a stones throw away from another cherished Elk Grove spot that has moved in my lifetime, Jimboy’s.
It’s important to remember when you’re shopping here that it’s not a Borders or Amazon. You’re browsing in a used bookstore. Open yourself up to find an old friend that you forgot about, or something that you never knew you wanted to read. I have lost track of all the wonderful authors I have discovered browsing the shelves here.
If you’re selling books, be patient. Sometimes I have walked in with a bag to sell and they’ve gone through it right away, other times they told me that it would require a substantial amount of time (as they glanced about the shop with a dismayed expression, surrounded by mountains of books to sort).
I am always surprised by how well read and helpful the staff is. I’m constantly surprised by people who express a poor opinion of the service. Typically there is just one staffer in the store at any given time and they do have to handle sales, the phone, looking up customer inquiries and sorting books to be sold.
I can’t imagine Elk Grove without this store. Love the ‘new’ location. Just received an email that they have been open for 20 years now! Happy anniversary Almost Perfect. It’s been a pleasure to grow up and feed my love of textual art in your store.

This place is one of the saving graces of suburban Elk Grove. The selection isn’t as complete as the gigantic Borders (RIP), but it has way more charm than any chain book store could offer.
There’s an impressive classics section with some old editions; I found a 1952 print of «My Antonia» for $ 1.50. All the employees I’ve ever met there are well-​read, friendly hipsters. If you sign up for their emailing list, they let you know about special deals that are RIDICULOUS. Mom just got an X-​Mas gift certificate for $ 20 that only cost me $ 10. They do buy-​backs too. Admittedly, they could spice up the place with some tasteful couches/​chairs and old school jazz playing in the background. Not to mention the obvious, but by going here you’re supporting a local business thus putting $ back into your community. How often does that happen in The Grove?

Okay. So it is seems like the sourpuss does not work there anymore. The last couple of times I have been there, there is this really friendly person behind the counter. I will be going here more now. Cheap books. Don’t expect to find newer books in here unless they have been brought in by the customers.

While this is a fairly large used book store with lots of inventory, I thought their prices were really high. And the woman working the day I went in wasn’t friendly and never offered help, said hello, or made a peep. It was awkward to be looking around in a silent store. I didn’t ask about their trade-​in rates, but I probably won’t shop here again anyway, so it doesn’t matter really.

I’ve been coming to this store for years. If you love to own physical copies of books, there aren’t many brick and mortar stores that you can go to. The shop is smallish, but that have a very good selection considering the size. The staff never followed me around asking if I need help, and every time that I have asked about a particular title or section, they were able to help me immediately. Even when the store doesn’t have what I’m looking for, the staff is helpful and has made suggestions as to where I may be able to find it.

WHAT happened to this place?!
They use to take books. They use to give you MUCH better store credit. They use to employ people who were nice and helpful.
They’re selection is still pretty amazing. They’re prices could be a WHOLE lot better for HELLO — USED books. AND it would not kill them to hire people who may have smiled once in their life.
I feel awkward and unwelcome in this place. Bah humbug! I’m finding a new place to turn in my books.

I actually made a u turn to go here, and it was worth it! I’m planning for a road trip, so I’m in the market for audio books and cheap used paperbacks. I found several audio books [on tape — but I still have a tape player] for $ 1.50. I got a stack of used books for $ 3 each. There were a few display books that were priced higher than I expected based on where they were located in the store. The staff was very helpful, she even pointed out that the audio books were tape not CD before she rang me up. When she gave me the total I realized I had picked up one new book by mistake and she quickly took that out of my stack and revised my total. If you’re in the area, it’s worth a stop.

Okay so I really do like this bookstore, though I do wish they had a larger true crime selection. Yes, I realize they are at the mercy of what people bring in to them, so I won’t hold that against them.
My biggest problem is their violation of merchant credit card acceptance rules. You cannot charge a fee for accepting credit cards… debit yes, credit no. Go to Visa or Mastercard’s website and see for yourself. For this, they lose a star. I did report the violation, but I still shop there – but with cash only.

ok, this place really gets an automatic 5 stars just for being a used bookstore in my neighborhood. kinda pricey for used reads though so minus 2 stars… however i went there and they had the book i wanted so plus 1 star.
the staff seemed mainly comprised of highschool kids… which was cooler than some random 20’s hipster. way to keep it unpretensious without trying :)

–apparently you can get trade in credit that works out to a pretty good price. ask about it.
