Young Landscaping And Gardening

Young is, I believe, an honest and hardworking man. He has many years of experience in landscape contracting.
Our job was fairly large:
— widened the driveway on each side
— paved alongside the house to make an «RV» parking spot
— laid sidewalk along the other side of the house
— designed and built concrete steps from the sidewalk to the front door
— replaced cracking cement on the front porch
— replaced fence on one side of the house facing the street
— replaced fence on the other side an changed the old gate from a narrow pedestrian gate to a double «car gate»
…big job. He worked very hard and performed the work per the contract. He is also a very nice man. So… why am I giving only three stars?
He’s very busy between all his jobs and family commitments, so much so the I think his busy tempo prevented him from giving our job his best efforts.
— the gate had to be rebuilt, the first night he built it we had high winds. The vertical steel peg installed to secure the gate failed because the hole he drilled in the cement was very shallow to the point where the peg only penetrated ¼ inch or so. The result was during the night the gate flopped back and forth splitting the post and scoring an arc in the driveway.
— fence on the other side was too flimsy and needed rework because it was coming apart along the top edge.
— one section of the sidewalk along the house cracked deeply and he had to demo it and pour new cement. This is part of the business. concrete just cracks sometimes. My problem is I’m tired of bugging him to haul away the old broken up concrete.
— on one side of the new driveway there is a long crack developing.. . Once it’s wide enough to slip a quarter in, he’ll come back to replace that as well.
Concrete is a pain in the a**, this stuff happens. It’s not his fault.
Okay, to wrap it up. If you have a smaller scale landscape project, he’s probably going to be fine. If you have a bigger project, I would have a long talk with him first and go into details to ensure you get the quality you paid for. If you have a fence project only, I call someone who just does fences.
I like Young, and as I said he works hard, he’s honest, and experienced. I just feel he’s too distracted when it comes to a large scale project.
