Business Owner

Laurie worked at Elkhorn Area High School for 23 years before being moved to Elkhorn Area Middle School where she finished her teaching career. Laurie loved going to the local coffee shop Deakin Isle, but when that closed she knew she had always wanted to run a business and she couldn’t let her love for coffee grow any more! She opened Perkup with her family of four who also own a Dairy Farm. It was important to her to build the coffee shop in a small quaint area where the barn affect was present. Her family used the old barn board from a local neighbor and shaped it up and made it as the countertop! Everything in the shop is based around the healthy factors and a small place to sit and relax in the piece and quiet.

This coffee shop is absolutely fantastic! I happened upon it after attending the Elkhorn Flea Market a few years ago. I had an excellent Caramel Macchiato and the best ginger snap cookie I have ever had. I had honestly kind of forgotten about it, but this Saturday we took a ride as there isn’t a coffee shop in our neighborhood. The owner is the barista. Very friendly, very talented. She makes an amazing specialty coffee and makes you feel like a regular even if you are a newbie. This place is worth the 20 minute drive for us, and we will definitely be back!

I love this place! My only regret is that I did not discover it sooner! I always drove to Delavan Starbucks when I wanted coffee… And to be honest… The staff and quality of drink is not good there. So I went in search for another coffee house and found this gem right under my nose!
The atmosphere here is awesome! Small and cozy. I love the barn wood natural feeling of the place. The women working are always nice and polite even if there is a line out the door. They take their time with every customer and make an excellent cup of coffee! Or latte in my case.
Prices? Well I drink soy milk… And they are the best around. Almost a $ 1.50 cheaper then Starbucks! It’s the only place that I go now! I love it!

My favorite coffee place in the area, especially since they serve Collectivo coffee. I come here a few times a month, and by no means a «regular», yet the owner Laurie recognizes me and what I usually order! Very friendly staff in general and great service.

Don’t know how new this is but it is a welcome addition to the Elkhorn square district. Right next door to 31 and down the street from Moys.
They serve Alterra so that’s a plus.
Way better than any chain (mermaid) Java shop. Has a quirky vibe that I liked. Not big city (like Anodyne) but hey this is Elkhorn.
I have only been once and it was solid thus the 4 stars. I’ll be back and might up to 5 if warranted. For now it’s good, it’s local so 4.

Best place in the area for coffee drinks and it’s a family business. They serve Collectivo coffee which is still superior to all national chains I’ve tried. Outside of Milwaukee, the owner is the best at making lattes. She won’t make a goofy design, but she has the espresso to milk to flavoring ratio down pat. Her and her employees are always friendly and inviting. The non coffee drinks are also great, so it’s a place you can find something for almost everyone. I recommend the Cookies and Crème frappé for those who want a dessert drink. The prices are comparable to the national chains, so if you’re in the area, there’s no reason not to stop by downtown Elkhorn for a liquid treat.

I love this coffee shop! While originally from SE Wisconsin, I haven’t lived in the state for about 15 years, but visit often to see my parents. I tried this place on one of my visits and was quite pleased. Great coffee (loved my mocha!), cute place, nice employees, much more spacious inside than it appears outside (it extends backwards farther than you’d think). Good wifi, varied seating (chairs, tables, couches, armchairs), nice atmosphere. Well worth a visit.

This is a great local place to meet and greet. It has coffee but loose tea as well which is my drink of choice. Next door is one of the best bakery in the area so I stop for treats to bring home and get my tea fix next door. Perkup is full service to include drinks and snacks with plenty of tables and great conversation. Don’t miss this coffee house if you are in the area.

I love getting coffee at Perkup in downtown Elkhorn because I know each drink is handmade with love each and every time. Fresh, high quality ingredients are used and the knowledgeable and creative baristas can make anything a person could possibly crave. Also, a wide variety of delicious Colectivo bulk coffee can be purchased with ease to take home and brew yourself. Each barista is friendly and warm. People come in to catch up with old friends, grab some energy on the go, or to relax and unwind by reading a book or working on a puzzle. Between the different daily coffee specials and the scrumptious muffins and scones to the cozy and homey atmosphere, Perkup offers a little something for everyone. Definitely not a coffee shop you want to miss :)

Needed my morning cup of coffee desperately and Perk Up was just around the corner so I stopped in. Just a plain cup of coffee with a splash of cream is all I need and it definitely hit the spot! Perk Up is a cute and cozy little shop. Love the iPad system and credit card terminal –very advanced!

This coffee shop opened about 8 months ago. It is a very nice and comfy shop. We didn’t get to stay long but they do have more than just coffee and bakery. They had some nice spots to sit down and relax. We ordered some coffee and bakery and all was delicious. The owner was very pleasant which is always a plus at a coffee shop. So stop by here and give them your business. We need more places like this. We will stop by here whenever we pass through Elkhorn.
