Since the beginning of our company in 1975 — the year of the «first energy crisis», the way we build homes has always been influenced with energy costs in mind. Over the years we’ve also have become one of the best known builders in the area of fine custom homes — many of them on the area’s best known lakes.

Together with my wife Nancy, I started Thelen Total Construction in 1975. It was not exactly a banner year for construction as inflation was 13.9%, interest rates were high and home construction was down 40%. It was also the time of the first «energy crisis.» Back then, I knew it was very important to not only build a well constructed energy efficient home but to stand behind it with second to none warranty and client service. We’ve been very fortunate to not only survive but thrive in a business where other companies come and go. I believe it’s because we are not just building home but building relationships with our clients. Although building beautiful homes is what we do everyday — it’s important to remember that for each one of our homeowners, theirs is the only home that matters.
