Luna’s Day Spa

Luna’s is a wonderful spa. I’ve had a fantastic massage here and they have lots of services to choose from. I mainly come for the eyebrow threading. Tishna is amazing and so sweet. Great prices and so easy to make appointments. They’re always great about accommodating my schedule. I wouldn’t go anywhere else. I used to live in Alexandria and still came here for services.

This is a review update, and I am happy to report that I am a happy customer of Luna’s Day Spa. Sonia, the owner, had reached out to me after a bad experience with redeeming a groupon, and I really appreciated her thoughtfulness. I went back yesterday for a Brazilian wax and worked with Trishna. She was wonderful and made me feel very relaxed. She also talked with me about trying hard wax, as the last time I used soft wax I had a bad reaction to it. I found her to be very knowledgeable, personable, and professional. After I got home and took a closer look there were a few very minor missed areas, but nothing I would have ever really noticed myself. All of the staff were very friendly and welcoming.
I would definitely return next time I am in need of a waxing. Thank you Sonia and Trishna!

First, I normally see Tishna, and this review is in no way a reflection on her. She’s amazing. It breaks my heart to stop seeing her, but I can’t deal with the staff anymore.
Today, for the fourth time in my history of going there, I arrived to an appointment that did not exist. It seems every time I go there is a new receptionist, and their appointment system must be very complicated, because I have made multiple appointments, wrote them clearly down, and then arrive to find they just either do not exist, or have been put in VERY wrong. The first time or two, I figured I made a mistake. This has never happened with any other places I frequent (hair salon, drs, etc), but I’m human. So I assumed I screwed up. Third time? I was upset. Fourth time? I can’t waste my time like this!
Tishna, if you ever branch out, let me know, but sorry, I have to find someone else if I can’t actually get an appointment!

I was not at all impressed with my visit at the Luna’s Spa in Ellicott City, MD. It was recommended by my Dermatologist & Esthetician at her office. I had a 15-​minute consultation which was fine. I made my appointment with her however when the day came to my appointment, she was not there so the sister (who is also part-​owner) did my peel. She was late because she came from her own hair appointment. She was not prepared and had her cell phone by my ear while she was giving me my peel. The treatment lasted not much longer than 15-​Minutes. She cleansed my face sub-​par and I felt like she was rushing. I have experienced other facials & peels before and it is usually 45 – 50 minutes long with light head & neck massage. I highly doubt I will return to this spa. I was not impressed. Also, the receptionist at the front desk quoted me the wrong (of course higher price initially quoted to me) when it came time for me to pay and the sister kept trying to sell me products. There are too many other medical spas that are willing to provide their customers with care & attention. I will also more than likely inform my Dermatologist that I was not too pleased with this spot.

Yesterday was my first time going to Luna day spa. I had no idea what kind of facial I needed. I was very impressed how their consultation works. Sonia took her time asking me questions-​Like what are my concerns, What bothers me the most about my face, What I want to accomplish after this treatment etc. We talked for 10 minutes before she started my treatment. I had non surgical face lift facial. It was most effective and relaxing facial I ever had. I highly recommend this spa! I’m glad I didnt believe the other reviews and went anyway!

Went here to get a eyebrow wax. One of the sister /​owners did my wax. Well she could stop looking at her phone. So so rude !!! She Never said thank you, I hope her phone gives her a tip. No no not going back here !!!

It’s unfortunate that the reviews showing positives were all ruled out by Unilocal.This place is honestly not being promoted as it should. Usually Unilocal is on point, this time… Not at all.
Let me start by saying, I show no favoritism to anyone or anywhere. I hold nothing back so I will be honest in my review.
I usually get my brazillian waxes when I’m on vacation, but decided to do it here in the U.S. instead. I knew my Estetician Sonia worked from a spa that had two locations. She’s my medical esthetician at my dermatologist’s office. She was who I’ve hired to correct my skin & hair growth that was mismanaged by American Skincare Laser Center. She has done wonders. I’ve gotten one trio of a Vi Peel, have a new skincare line, have had laser completed/​corrected on 2 areas, currently getting laser on 2 other areas and will be getting a glycolic peel when I return from vacation.
I asked her if the other location did waxing. She said yes and recommended Tishna and scheduled the appointment for me. I’ve been seeing Sonia for 3 months and it wasn’t until my recent appointment with her, after I booked my appointment with Tishna that I learned she was the OWNER of Luna’s. Quite fancy. Well, I was impressed and knew I was in for good service. As Sonia has proven to be nothing less than honest & exceptional.
The location does require some quick maneuvering (you have to do a tight U turn at the light to get to it) but once you master that, you are good. The spa is well decorated, serene, smells lovely and clean.
The receptionist, Victoria, is super sweet and professional. She even gave me a mini tour & let me take pics.
Tishna had already prepped the area for me before my arrival. A wax, is a wax… Or is it? It wasn’t painless, but because Tishna uses hard wax, it wasn’t as painful. She used proper technique and did NOT double dip. She’s very thorough and makes you feel at ease which helps greatly. Tishna then told me of her other services. I declined initially and then… I decided instead of an eyebrow wax at my nail salon, let’s do threading. So she threaded. My eyebrows are no longer 2 weeks old & scraggly, they are well done with a slight arch. Lovely!
So, I booked my next appointment for one month. I will most definitely come back. Not because Sonia is my medical esthetics an, not because Tishna is her sister and not because Victoria is the best receptionist this side of the Mason-​Dixon. I’m going because they are all that and more. Their pricing is fair, their service exceptional, the shop is clean, they are professional, are respectful & I trust them.
What I like is that they are all passionate about education for themselves and you, on your skin. I’m always leaving with some new tip on how to care for my skin be it on vacation or daily. Unnecessary services aren’t pushed on you. And their services work. You’d think that would be a given, but I’ve gone to places, invested thousands and was ripped off. That won’t happen to you here. Their machines, their skincare line, it works. It’s pricey, but it’s worth it.
I’ve had bad services from places in the past and my gut always warned me, but I’d ignore it because I thought the place looked nice or the people were kind. There’s no need for such loyalty. My gut says yes here. So try it out yourself, I assure you, your gut will say yes too!

Masseuse AJ was great. Shop quiet and pleasant. Very humid and sticky though, suggest humidifier.

This review is long overdue… I am in the market for a message and I saw a special that Luna was running. My regular person is booked for the next several days. I thought to myself I would give this place another shot, but I thought I would check the Unilocal reviews to see if it had gotten any better. I guess not. I bought a very overpriced hair removal treatment from the spa. It really did not work, but more importantly during the service the technichian was complaining about politics (the president and small businesses, taxing, blah blah, she was passionate about what she saying and very close to me because it was a chin wax, that she actually flicked spit on my face (more than once)…this WAS NOT intential BUT two things:
1. I am paying alot of money for this service… I want a calm, serene atmosphere
2. I do not know you well enough for you to share your political views about the administration not thinking about small businesses etc… I am getting a service… I dont care.
She was nice enough, but the loud talking, attempting to make conversation and the untintentionally spat was enough for me not to go back. I am a firm believer in supporting small businesses but their services seem to be VERY overpriced for the quality and actually delivery of the service.

Went here for the first time for a Groupon brazilian. It’s a small place with a quiet atmosphere. I arrived early and they took me early, which was nice that they weren’t behind schedule. My esthetician was friendly and efficient. She did a nice job on the waxing, and check-​out was quick. No complaints at all, and the Groupon made it a bargain. I would go back.

Had a living social for a brazilian and I called a few weeks in advance to book my appt.
The spa itself is nice and pretty and they don’t double dip which is great. I had soft wax which was fine and the process was the usually level of pain. However, when I got into the car and started driving home, I started to feel a strange burning. When I got home and checked, I realized she must have had two strip overlap a little and a strip of skin was raw. There was also quite a bit of hair that she missed and some residual wax. I’ve been getting waxed for years so I know it’s not uncommon to have a few stray hairs and some residual wax, but there was quite a bit of both.
It’s been a few days and the raw skin has healed. I won’t be going back, just my 2 cents.

I highly recommend Luna’s Day Spa for threading. This is great for those with sensitive skin. The staff is always friendly and the atmosphere very relaxing.

I just love this spa, I called around 10 o’clock this morning and got a 2:10 same day appointment for a facial.
Linda, my esthetician, gave me one of my best facials I’ve ever had, she did extractions for a good 10 minutes. I just love the hand massage that came along with it also. I can’t wait to go back for my next facial.
I would definitely reccommend going to see Linda at Luna’s Med Spa.

I had a nearly identical experience to the two above. Very frustrating from a time and money ($ 60 plus tip for less than 10 minutes of service) perspective.

I, too, used a Living Social coupon for the $ 99 microdermabrasion. The aesthetician was dismissive and though the coupon stated the procedure should take 20 – 30 minutes, she took a paltry 10 minutes and I was out the door. Sorely disappointed, I would not recommend and I will definitely not return.

I bought a Brazilian Wax special through Living Social back in July. Every time I called to inform them I wanted to use the voucher I was told they were booked for the next three weeks… SO finally I just called and made an appointment without disclosing that I wanted to use the voucher and low and behold — they had something within 1 week! ((gasp! could it be?!))
I had inquired back in July — BEFORE buying the voucher — if they used hard wax, which they said yes. I get the phone call (which I missed) confirming my appointment and called back the morning of and was told everything was fine.
So I finally drive out to west bumble f*** from Baltimore to use this voucher, and it all feels so nice and serene and spa-​like when I walk in. Great — Fab! Yay — I got a deal!
I check in, and see the list of clients on the counter (suspect– I now know everyone’s coochie hair preferences… FAIL) and see that on my name is specifically says «client prefers hard wax, informed to come in 10 mins early» ~~which I was PS — 25 minutes early!!.
Now I’m super excited… So i get in the room, remove clothing, lay on the table as is normal, and the lady comes back and… well, I’m going to skip that part, if you truly must know msg me and i’ll inform you but basically the bitch was rude…
Moving on — I see her laying out these strips and the sensation of horror sets in. I very politely (cause I don’t want to be THAT customer) ask «What kind of hard wax do you use here?» She in a very defensive, stand-​off-​ish tone says «OH I don’t use hard wax, I only do soft wax.»
PAUSE– WHAT?!
So before this heffer lays that wooden stick anywhere near me I prop up and claim I’m allergic and have sensitive skin (I don’t — but that shyt hurts and she can’t prove I’m not allergic”) She goes on to assure me that it’s aloe based, not sugar, and it doesn’t hurt, blah, blah, blah,… I read the container, see it has a little aloe vera plant on it instead of the usual bee and honeycomb and reluctantly relinquish power onto the evil spa lady.
Conclusion —
The shyt hurt… not as bad as regular soft wax, but definitely was not as quick and painless as hard wax… She was rude… I came home and there was left over wax residue (FUN!!) on my unmentionables, and she wasn’t thorough…
I’m sticking to RED DOOR SPAs — no more experimenting with the kitty…

Bought a laser hair removal package through Groupon for the bikini area. The whole experience was terrible and I’m reporting them to Groupon and never going back. The technician doing the laser hair removal was mean, unprofessional, didn’t do a test area, no prep, no skin tone discussion, no discussion of do’s and don’ts of laser hair removal, she just started zapping rather painfully. I’ve had laser hair removal at two other places and they were thousands of times better and more professional than this joke of an operation. They definitely ripped me off too in the amount of area lasered. She zapped so few hairs and then told me anything else would be an upsell. Give me a break! Don’t go, don’t go! Terrible terrible terrible.

Must say I was disappointed. I purchased a half off microdermabrasion coupon from Groupon for around $ 40. The esthetician was basically pushing thier $ 80+ facials as she actually said to me that the microdermabrasion would NOT do anything for my face unless I purchased the facial. Further the treatment was only 10 MINUTES!!! Seriously people, half off; so your saying that an $ 80 treatment is only 10 MINUTES. Yeah, right; this Spa is faking and they took my money. I am truly disappointed. I have purchased many different services from Groupon/​Living Social and I actually received the full service for the half off. This Spa was simply cutting their services to get more money. STAY AWAY!!!
