O’Donnell Honda Service Center

I have given my last penny to O’Donnell Honda. Feels great, but I remorse on the fact that it has taken me this long to realize that my time and money could have been spent elsewhere. I waited 1.5 hours to have oil change and they tried to tell me that my transmission fluid and air filter were dirty even though they were replaced 3 months ago by another reputable service provider. I checked my trans fluid and it was by no means dirty nor was my filter. I worry that some other people unknowingly may go with recommendations and be out the hundred or so dollars for unwarranted repairs.

Took my Odyssey in for recall maintenance. Had some new tires to install and figured I would kill two birds with one stone. Got a quote that was higher than other places, but since the car had to be there anyway, I figured what the hell. Specifically asked whether their price included tire disposal and was told it did. Same deal on getting oil change. Pick the car up and what do I find, an extra 10% added to the quoted total for «misc». Ask what made up «misc» and the service adviser couldn’t explain exactly how they came up with that charge. Claimed it was for tire disposal, but when I said we were quoted a total cost price that included tire disposal, claimed it was for something else. Invited me to come back to pickup my tires and oil and only then would I get a refund. About an hour passes and I get a call telling me they will refund the charge.
Avoid like the plague. It’s clear they add this charge in hopes the customer doesn’t notice or complain.

terrible, rude staff. car was never fixed to my own satisfaction. had to go find it when they finished. no explanations as to what they had found wrong or did to correct the problem. I’ve had the car 3 weeks and it’s been a total nightmare. NEVER again will I deal there.

I’ve owned several Hondas over the last 20 years. Of the dozen service centers I’ve used, I’d rate O’Donnell Honda near the bottom. Not the absolute worst. That proud distinction goes to Shockley Honda in Frederick. I’d set my car on fire before I’d trust those thieving shysters again. And thanks to the grease monkey shitheads at Shockley, my expectations for dealership-​performed service and maintenance are exceptionally low. Still, I won’t be back to O’Donnell.
There’s an overall lack of class and professionalism within the service department. Talk to a service advisor, watch the techs as they take their cigarette breaks, or listen to the conversations between the staff and you’ll instantly know what I mean. While waiting for my vehicle I overhead the service center cashier say, «I hate these fucking customers. I just want to punch them in the face.» Now… I’ve worked in customer service before. I’ve had those same feelings of frustration. People can be jerks. But I’d NEVER think of voicing those thoughts with customers standing within earshot. Are you that stupid??? Or is the level of professionalism expected of you by management so low that you can comfortably say such things without fear of reprimand? Maybe this is just how the staff talks around here.

The labor cost at O’Donnell is higher than anywhere else I’ve been. I don’t know if the rate itself is higher, or if they simply bill more time for a given repair. Either way, I paid more at O’Donnell. The work performed on my car was sloppy, with no attention to detail. No mention was made of the missing fasteners under the hood, or the black fluid that had splattered all over various engine components (a leaking hose perhaps?). Had they noticed/​cared and said something, I would have paid for the repairs. Your loss. I’ll have one of the other Honda repair shops take a look. Finally, several black finger marks were left on my grey fabric interior. At least wipe the grease off your hands before you get into my clean car. I work hard to keep it that way, and you manage to fuck it up in 2 seconds flat. Thanks guys. Thanks for caring.

I have a Honda Civic and there is a leak somewhere in the car leaving my entire backseat wet. I made an appointment at 7 am on a Saturday for the dealership to fix this. I made the appointment online and part of that process was explaining what was wrong with the car. I explained in detail the problem and what had already been ruled out as a potential cause. I received two confirmation emails stating that I had an appointment at 7 for this problem. When I showed up at the dealership 5 minutes till 7, an employee asked me what the problem was and I explained it to her. She said that they only fix problems with leaks on Monday when they have a mobile service come. I explained that I had made an appointment online and had stated the problem there already. She told me that no one actually reads those. What is the point of making an appointment online and filling out the required information if no one actually reads that? She was not apologetic. She just told me to come back on Monday if I wanted the leak fixed. I had already rearranged my day for this appointment and gotten up much earlier than I would normally would have gotten up on a Saturday (5:30 a.m.) so I asked if she could at least fix the clicker. Lately, I have been having problems getting it to work and have to lock and unlock the car manually. I said that I would wait. I figured it would be a quick fix. By 7:45 a.m. I was really frustrated. I had been waiting for almost an hour and that did not seem normal for something as minor as a problem with a clicker– especially since I had an appointment. I looked for the same employee and told her that I just wanted my clicker back and wanted to leave. She said «OK» and went into a room and got it for me. No one had worked on it at all. I had just been sitting around for no reason. When I said I wanted to leave there was no apology or explanation as to why it had taken so long. I had just wasted my morning for nothing. I’ve never had such horrible customer service. I’ve found other shops to be much more helpful and courteous. I am not going back again.

I used to be a faithful customer, but never again after today’s experience. When I arrived I explained that I had an appointment and I needed to be able to leave by a certain time I was assured they could complete and get me out the door in plenty of time. After the allotted time I was quoted had passed I asked that they check on my car and reminded them that I had to leave in a few minutes. I was told «no problem». After another 10 minutes had gone by I realized that they had not even started on my car! Since at this point I had waited nearly 2 hours and was well past the time I needed to leave I had no choice but to let them finish. When I mentioned to the manager that they should be honest with their customers, he was rude, belligerent and condescending. If they had simply told me they were running behind I would have been able to make other arrangements. Instead they lied to my face, causing me to miss my appointment, and instead of being apologetic they yelled at me and acted like they were doing me a favor. If this is how they treat their customers to their face, imagine how poorly they will treat your car. Find a different mechanic — this is one to avoid.

I have a mazda 3 with a flat tire and broken tire valve stem. They can’t fix it for me because they dont have Mazda parts, but they changed the spare tire for me, for FREE. Again, I have a mazda, not even a honda, not purchased here, but they are willing to help. That’s how your run a business.

I recently took our honda civic to this dealership for loud noise from the rear of the car. I was half expecting the muffler to be changed and was prepared to pay a decent amount for it. To my surprise, I was charged only for a tire rotation (which the shop recommended and I agreed). The dealership discovered that the sound was from bad ball bearings and replaced them within the drive train warranty that was still valid and I did not know about. This was a very pleasant surprise. The tire rotation charge was a little less than another non-​dealership shop I typically go to, for oil changes. This dealership is 30 miles away from me, or I would have gone there for all my needs. I have been here for the major ones and have always been satisfied.

Could this place get any greedier? Even compared to other Honda dealerships, O’Donnell Honda’s prices are a complete rip-​off. I needed some maintenance work done, and I received a quote from O’Donnell that was TWICE as much as what I paid at the Honda dealership where I had the same exact service done a couple of years ago. I can understand when a dealership costs twice as much as an independent mechanic, but when one Honda dealership costs twice as much as another Honda dealership, then you know you’re dealing with a bunch of greedy crooks.
P. S. The service salesman was quite pushy and tried to use scare tactics on me to get the work done. If you’re not knowledgeable about cars, that’s another reason to avoid this place at all costs. There are plenty of other Honda dealerships in Baltimore, so you have lots of choices besides this shady place.

Yes, this is a ripoff place. I want to say that their service is probably professional but their price is always a shock! For some small parts, their revenue could likely be as high as 1000%(could be higher) this is unbelievable but it’s sadly the truth sometimes! Again, my suggestion is never go to the dealship!

I’m a dealer chick and have been since 2005. I believe that if you do right by your Honda, your Honda will do right by you. I come here for everything (except tires).
I love that they know me by name, greet me with smiles, high fives and hugs. They are honest (sometimes too honest) about the health of my car. Best of all, I don’t feel like I’m being taken advantage of.
This place respects their brand and you as a customer, so they treat you with the utmost respect and makes you feel as if you are a priority.
I love coming here for an oil change and knowing: I can get coffee, tea, donuts, fruit, CNN, free wifi and outlets to charge my phone while I wait. I especially love that thy wash my car after they change my oil. Can’t get that at Jiffy Lube.

The service adviser Tina very professional and knowledgeable she took the time explain problem with my brake. They replaced all my brake pads and rotors on my Honda Odyssey now my vehicle drive normal no vibration. O’Donnell Honda is great place to service your vehicle. Great customer Service, Knowledgeable staff. Very friendly. Keep it up !

Wow… I will never deal with the crooks here. I have taken my car to this location several times and after this last experience I will never again.
After speaking to someone over the phone, and having them order all the parts, I brought my car in the following day. I was assured that my car would be ready by the end of the day, as I commute from Baltimore for work.
I called around 3.30 to get an update on my car, as I worked till 8 and hadn’t heard a thing from the service department. Around 4 I was called back to say that they didn’t have the parts (even though they ordered them), and hadn’t even started working it yet.
I asked if they could partly work on my electrical issue (Baltimore rats love to chew wires) but was shut down saying that only working on that wouldn’t resolve the issues… I was also quoted just under $ 1,000 for the parts and labour. Knowing how my car was driving, I wasn’t completely shocked. and I know the dealerships are a ripoff too… But I was upset that I was assured I would have my car that night, and instead I would again have to drive it back home and hope that my car wouldn’t explode. The best they could offer me was to call budget and rent a car. I was also told I may also have transmission problems as a result of the wire damage, so it may cost me EVEN more.
It was then, that I called my dad’s mechanic. Even though his location isn’t convenient, I felt Honda was trying to rob me.
Long story short… (Trust me, I could really elaborate) my dad’s mechanic (Diamond Sunoco in Pikesville) fixed my car for $ 365 and did some body work along with it. They also told me there was nothing wrong with my transmission.
$ 365 vs. the whopping $ 970 plus possible charges for transmission that Odonnelle Honda !!! Never again.

The short of it:
Service is on your side (i.e. not out to fix things you don’t need fixing). Service is quick. Staff is professional. The waiting area is comfortable.

The whole story:
The positive end of my battery cable terminal on my Honda Accord 2009 corroded so badly it broke. There was barely enough electrical contact to start the car in the morning and drive to Odonnell service center for a quote on replacing that part.
I came in anticipating the service center to charge me as much as they could. As expected, they stated it would cost $ 400+ and take about 2.5 hrs to replace the entire cable. I was prepared to eat the cost so I was not so surprised. I was asked to pull my car into their servicing center, but unfortunately I couldn’t start my car back up… Just my luck. «No problem,» the receptionist said. For the next 10 minutes, I was expecting the service center to come back and say more things are wrong with my car and will cost me more to fix.
But the rest of my stay was totally unexpected. The receptionist came back to me giving me the option to choose the cheaper, quicker, simpler fix that involved only replacing the cable terminal, not the entire cable. It would be ~$ 70, more than 5 times cheaper than the original quote. Yes, please!
It was fixed within 30 minutes! I barely had time to enjoy the CNN news on the 50-​some inch flat screen TV and the complimentary breakfast (bananas, bagels, coffee). The new battery cable terminal looks thicker, sturdier, and shinier! And they washed my car. Awesome. The service made my whole day.

I took my 2010 Honda Civic to Jim Coleman Honda to have a sensor in my wheel replaced to address a tpms light on my dashboard. Jim Coleman Honda wanted to charge me $ 288. I picked my car up and took it to O’donnell Honda who did the exact same work for $ 190. O’donnell Honda not only beat their competitor’s price by 1/​3, they did the work the same day after receiving the car at 2pm. Fast, friendly and affordable. If you have a Honda, take it to O’donnell Honda for service.

STAY AWAY AT ALL COSTS
If I could give 0 stars I would. Took my 2007 Accord here last year for routine break pads. Made terrible sounds afterwards HAD TO TAKE IT BACK THREE MORE TIMES! Not only did they «find something wrong» each time, but I had to pay for the repairs for damage they caused!
I spoke on several occasions with the manager and his solution was «if you want to take us to court do it» He was an arrogant person for someone who should have been begging for forgiveness.
Oh and fyi, the horrible sounds never went away until taking it to another shop.

Absolutely hate this place. Some of the staff are very nice, but the manager Steve is a complete jerk. Took my car in once for an oil change (2 days before a road trip to FL). I went home, drove to work the next day, stopped by the store. Coming out I noticed a big puddle under my car. Being once that assumes it is my car, I pulled my car out of the spot a bit so I could check under it. Yup! My car was pouring oil out. I called Honda and Steve answered. Even knew who I was. I told him what was happening and he said it would have to wait until the following day. I couldn’t believe it. I stopped by Jiffy Lube by where I was. They said the plug was not put in correctly and fixed it for me… even topped off the oil for free.
Push forward to this past Saturday. Dropped my car off for new brakes and an oil change. Apparently my husband gave his number instead of mine to contact. We had window people over at my house so we didn’t hear his phone. I called them at 4pm and asked if my car was ready. Steve started yelling at me. I went up to puck up my car and noticed that my bill was for $ 55. I said, ‘No way this is my bill. I had new brakes… that costs much more I am sure”. Steve heard me and gave over then began yelling at me about how I need rotars, etc and they only did my oil One would think he would have said something like, «Hey, I tried calling you. We couldn’t do the work because we couldn’t get a hold of you for approval. I’m sorry, but can we schedule a new appointment?» I will never go back to this crap hole. Can’t believe Steve is still there. If you are in the area… Spirit Led Auto is amazing. They are in Odenton.

I have been taking my 2004 Honda Accord here for service ever since I bought it from the dealership new. I originally took it here because it was under warranty and I prefer to have service done by the dealership while under warranty. However, because of the amazing service and reasonable prices that I have received, I continue to take it here even though I have since moved and it is now out of my way.
I cannot give enough praise to the Service Department at O’Donnell Honda, specifically the Manager Jerry Furr, and especially Stephen Larkins, my service advisor. I regularly receive both e-​mails and postcards in the mail reminding me that my vehicle is due for service soon. One time, Stephen even called me to check on me since I hadn’t been in to get my vehicle serviced in awhile and he wanted to make sure I was getting it the service it needed! Whenever I receive service here, Stephen fully explains what my car needs, what costs are involved, and works with me to figure out what services are more essential than others if I cannot afford everything.
Today, I had a major incident with my vehicle, and they went so above and beyong the call of duty, that I felt I should get on here and provide the praise that they deserve:
When I left for work this morning, my car was making a strange sound. I called Stephen first thing and he suggested that I bring it in on my lunch hour so that they could take a look at it. When it was time to head over there at lunch, my car wouldn’t start. I assumed it was the battery and had a friend try to jump my car. That didn’t work, so I called Stephen. He asked if my car was making a clicking sound, which it was. He told me that it was most likely the battery even though the car didn’t start. I told him that there was a lot of corrosion on the elements and said that I’d heard if you pour coke on the corrosion it will get rid of it. He said that I should try that and provided me with a number for a tow truck in case that didn’t work.
That did work, so I was then able to drive to O’Donnell. On the way there, my car kept turning on and off, but luckily I was able to get as close as the Kia dealership across Rogers avenue before my car completely died. I went into the service department, found Stephen and Jerry and explained what happened. Jerry said that he would get his pilot and asked Stephen to get a tow rope from his car and that they would go get my car for me and tow it into the service center.
Jerry ended up finding another mechanic, and he and Stephen prepared to tow my car. Stephen told me to go ahead and return to work and that he would handle everything. I did return to work and a short time later, he called me with a diagnosis and exact cost involved per usual.
I seriously cannot thank O’Donnell Service of Ellicott City, Jerry Furr, and especially Stephen Larkins enough!!! When it’s time to replace my vehicle, I would be inclined to get another Honda solely based on the service I receive here. I want them to be my service center for life!

Wow, I wish I’d read the review posted on 12/​14/​2011 before suggesting that my mother take her Acura to O’Donnell Honda for service work.

Thank goodness for the Better Business Bureau. Too bad that people who are more customer-​oriented than Jerry don’t actually have his job.

I have had excellent customer service here several times. I love the service department people. They have saved me money and went above and beyond the call of duty, like getting me a rental car so I could still run errands while my car was being serviced. Everyone I have encountered is friendly.
