I really liked this place. Nice atmosphere to just relax. A real café, which is hard to find around here. I got the apple pastry which was nice and just the right amount of sweet and buttery. Also got the honey bun which was on the sweet side but still really good. Got the iced honey apricot tea and I wanted more. I cant wait to go back and try the rest of their pretty extensive collection of drinks and sweets.

Probably our favorite bakery. There’s a nice ambiance and the Korean pastries are all good. There are always a lot of free samples. The drinks are a bit on the expensive side, but trying all the breads are a treat. Our favorite is the strawberry soboro bread.

It’s a cute place, but their bakery doesn’t have very many options. Also, their shaved ice bowls are pretty hard to navigate. I feel like they need to use rounder bowls so that you can get more without spilling. Café Bene does it better.

Fun spot to sit back, grab a drink and talk to friends. Plenty of sitting space. The pastries are fresh, drinks taste great and everything is presented well. Prices are also very reasonable. Pastries are only around $ 2 – 3!

My roommate and I stopped by after dinner at Honey Pig down the street for dessert. We came in around 8:30pm so they were a little sparse with the pastries on the shelves but we were there for bingsoo. The store itself is pretty big with lots of seating options and there were a lot of people there at the time. We ordered the large green tea bingsoo since we figured it would be easier to share between two people… it was HUGE! Before trying their bingsoo, I always had my go-to favorite place for bingsoo(which is in Virginia) but TLJ blows that place out of the water! It was definitely love at first bite and this is now my new favorite for sure! I love how their bingsoo is layered with the ingredients compared to other shops. There was so much green tea ice cream, red beans, and mochi to our hearts’ desires! A great addition was how their shaved ice is really fine so it wasn’t too overbearing. Absolutely loved it. Can’t wait to try their other locations!

Of the two(competing?) bakeries on this road, this is my preferred one. The space is brighter, friendlier, and more welcoming than the bakery across the street. They also feature a bigger selection of baked goods. This is out of the way for me, so I always splurge and get as many of the pastries as I can. The pastries and sweets are a good, manageable size, and reasonably priced. The nutrition and ingredient information posted next to the products are very helpful in determining what’s contained in some of their bread, especially for the ones that aren’t visually obvious. If you get here early enough, you’ll be able to sample many of their products before purchasing them. Overall, it’s a cozy place to have some pastries and maybe a coffee or two.

Well this is fresh! that’s the 1st thought came to my mind when I step through the doors. The pastries there are Asian type, the typical ones you’ll find in Asia or on the west coast(JJ2 etc.) There are some unique ones I recommend in a heartbeat. the Cheese pan! and the Milk Pan, it’s a fresh take on the custard filled pan. Check them out and you won’t be disappointed.

Shut the front door, this place is it. I’m rarely in Ellicott City, so when I was there a few months ago, I had to stop by. You’re greeted by a loud chorus of «Welcome to Tous Les Jours!» just like they do in Korea. As soon as I saw their macarons, I knew I had to get some. I got 6, and while it hurt to pay for that and a slice of cake, I think it’s comparable to other places(i.e., Whole Foods’ sorry macaron selection). I thought it was so good that I got a red bean pastry, croissant, and sweet potato pie for my parents(traditional, familiar, and new flavors for them, respectively) and they loved all of them. I grabbed a manju set — I believe there were 10 in the box — for my grandparents as my grandpa loves sweets and it’s just hard to find these products elsewhere. I’d like to say I could just go to Shilla in Rockville but that place has a terrible selection and is once again plagued by inconsistency. I will also add that a few weeks after my visit, my parents bought a birthday cake for me here. They had gotten a green tea cake from some other place in Annandale but alas, I couldn’t have green tea due to upcoming surgery. I am so glad they got me another one, and from TLJ, no less! True to the Korean model of «service», they got a free red bean pastry for buying the cake and a few other items. Only complaints are price — I know, it’s comparable to other places but baked goods are just so pricey overall, it makes me sad — and the volume of music. It was obnoxiously loud and while I like KPop, I don’t need it drowning out my conversations.

Best location for meet ups(not studying)! Private space in the back and plenty of café seating in front. The mango ice dish is the best but sometimes the mangoes are(too) frozen.

Probably the best Korean bakery in the area. I end up coming here quite often, probably once a week? I like most of their baked items and their drinks. If you like the Korean yogurt drinks then you’ll love the yogurt smoothie! So I come here not just for the bakery, but as a study spot in the mornings(sometimes the music gets loud and obnoxious). As a study spot this can be a hit or miss.

This is the BEST Korean bakery I have ever been to in the US! As a Korean who’s grown up in the DMV, my mom and I have been to pretty much every Korean bakery location and chain in the area(Shilla, Tous Les Jours, Breeze, Napoleon, Korean Korner, Lotte, Le Matin de Paris etc.) but this one rises above the others and takes the cake! Great place to grab some snacks, catch up with friends, or get some studying done! Small tables and chairs flank the outer walls while the inner walls are lined with bigger tables sectioned off by large, glass windows where you can reserve a spot for meetings or study sessions. Seating usually isn’t an issue, but I’ve definitely seen almost every seat fill up on weekend afternoons and evenings! Now for the bread. Oh, my god, the bread. Some must haves: — Apple pie: crispy and flaky with decadently smooth and thick apple jelly on the inside — Cream filled cornets: my absolute favorite! The outside is crispy and light(almost like an elephant ear cookie, but even lighter and more delicate) and the inside has an equally light but sumptuous filling that’s the perfect blend of creamy and sugary. I could probably eat 5 of them in a sitting and still want more. It comes in three flavors: milk, chocolate, and blueberry. Chocolate and milk are the tastiest in my opinion. — Honey bread: no wait – this one is my favorite! So amazing! They are these delicious, bite-sized, buttery fried squares of bread soaked in honey. They’re chewy, yet crisp. Sweet, yet somewhat savory. They are the perfect blend of everything your tastebuds could crave out of a carbohydrate. These sell out pretty regularly, so if you see them make sure you grab one! Or don’t… so that I can :) — Rose bread: This is kind of like a giant, rose-shaped croissant. You eat it by peeling it away layer by layer; the inside is a deliciously mild, slightly sweet white bread while the top is crisper and sweeter due to the glaze and exposure to heat in the oven. It’s a lot of fun to eat! If you don’t have a sweet tooth, you’ll probably be a fan of this one. Personally, I am not a drink person so I can’t attest to the quality of any beverages. I did get a hot chocolate one time and it was good. The only downside is the price, but don’t all wonderful things come at a price? Also, this one is wayyy better than the Virginia branch. I don’t know what kind of dark, beautiful magic happens in this bakery but I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Cute little place tucked away behind light house tofu. It’s a bakery that offers bread, sweets, cakes, coffees and teas. I’ve tried the Chai tea latte and green tea latte both very delicious. The whole cakes are less sweet compared to others and in the(20 – 40 $) range. The seating is comfortable and plentiful.

Personally, I think this is one of the best Korean bakeries in Ellicott City(along Route 40). Considering that this is a chain bakery, they keep it clean and consistent. Ample parking space, clean, spacious and cute interior, a wide selection of fresh bread/pastries to choose from, variety of coffee/tea/dessert/other beverages that you can select from the menu which will be made to order. The bread and pastries I’ve tried so far tasted pretty fresh and delicious. I don’t usually crave carbs, but I definitely enjoy the bread from TLJ. Drinks are solid; I especially like their green tea latte! I used to enjoy their Misugaru smoothie but the last few times I’ve ordered it, it was really watered down. It can get really crowded during the weekends, especially on Sundays. But a great place to hang out with a group of friends!

Okay when you go here you have to know what to get for you to LOVE this place. I tried a lot of their pastries and LOVED two things out of the million things I tried. That’s why they are getting 4 stars from me. I got their strawberry cream bread. Drool. It was in the refrigerated part of the bakery. It had fresh strawberries and soft and fluffy cream inside of the bread. You could taste the subtle hints of strawberry. This is a must try. Another pastry that you have to try is their milk cornet. The bread was flakey and soft. When you take a bite you get to the middle part that has a cream… kind of reminded me of the cream inside a Boston doughnut, but only better. The other things I tried were just okay. Nothing really special about them, but I fell in love with those two things. They have cute seating areas where you can chill and hang out with friends. They have two study rooms that are separated and secluded so that you can study as you’re eating food. To claim a study area you have to have 5 or more people with you. A cute place to get your sweets.

Not sure why it took me so long to write something about Tous Les Jours… I’ve been coming here fairly frequently since its soft opening. Anyways, Tous Les Jours is another Korean bakery on Route 40. Like Caffe Bene, Tous Les Jours is a very large international chain. This one is located in the shopping center with the Boston Market. It’s a surprisingly large store with a good amount of seats(though when it gets crowded, you may have trouble finding a spot). The baked goods here are gorgeous. Of all the Korean bakeries in the area, I think these are the best looking ones. They also are pretty tasty. :) It does come at a price though, as Tous Les Jours’ offerings are more expensive than Shilla and Bön Appetit. I’d say it’s worth it though… the quality is here. In terms of coffee, it’s pretty good. They say they use Intellegensia coffee(i think) but honestly, I can’t tell too much of a difference. Coffee is an art-form I suppose. However, I think one of the under-appreciated items here are the teas. They’re nice and refreshing, especially the iced yuja cha(citron tea) and the iced ginger tea. The bingsoo(shaved ice desserts) here were somewhat so-so when I first had them. But upon my last visit, it seemed like they changed it a little bit for the better. Overall, I think Tous Les Jours is my favorite Korean bakery in the area. I’d definitely visit it if you’re in the area. :)

What a cute little bakery place! We got here at 10pm on a Monday night(they close at 11am), so some of the shelves were bare. However, the pastries that were out looked fresh and several had samples to taste! We bought a couple of pastries and a fruit bingsoo. The pastries were definitely fresh. One of the best ones around Ellicott City as far as taste and freshness. I want to come back during peak hours to see all the selections, but so far so good =) The fruit bingsoo was delicious. We got the medium, and you can see the layers of flavored ice, then red bean, then ice, then fruit, then ice cream. Delish! Word of advice: Mix! Mix it up early, so you don’t get stuck on just red bean when you get to the red bean layer(unless you it like that). Anyway, this place is definitely very cute and clean! Great place after a BBQ! =)

This bakery is smaller than the other ones in the surrounding area. This review is solely for their pink strawberry birthday cake and the service. I have no complaints about the service at all. They are friendly and eager to assist their customers in any way possible. I ordered a cake for a friend’s birthday. The cake was laced with pink crumbs. The cake was topped with the cutest and detailed heart shaped cookies and chocolate molds. The cake was beautiful with a sense of pink overload. It was a girly cake. It may possibly be the most girly cake I have ever laid eyes on. The cake was so beautiful and breathtaking so I decided that I had to get it! I was so excited to eat the cake because it smelled of sweet sensational, luscious and delicious strawberries. However, when I took a bite it was not sweet enough… At least for my sweet tooth needs. I don’t think I would get this cake again. I need a sweeter cake!

This new bakery is stocked well, with bake time and disposal times displayed. I asked what happens to pastries after the disposal time, and it was confirmed by the owner that they are thrown out. HOWSAD!!! *Bawl* I wish I could swoop in and rescue them. But at least you have peace of mind knowing your pastries are fresh and only a few hours old. This is a nice place to get gift items for friends as they have very cute packaging boxes and bags. I was told these apply primarily to the items such as cakes, macaroons, etc. Here’s an overview of the café: –sandwiches to go and some parfait type gelato stuff –coffee, teas, bubble teas –beautiful selection of cakes around $ 25 – 35 that look somewhat innovative; a macaroon selection, and a smaller section of additional pastries under glass in the back –croquettes(savory pastries) with veggie, meat, or kimchi in a heated case –a buffet of pastries ranging from milk bread, croissants, to hot dog rolls and asian pizza pastries, I would say there’s about at least 20 – 30 varieties if not more, I was impressed. –a wall full of gifts already in boxes, bags of breads, rings of breads, and more bakery items which appear to be overflow of some items in the buffet The seating area is also wonderful. There’s free WIFI, outlets, and you can choose to sit in these cute sofa armchairs or there are 2 slightly enclosed glass rooms for a bit of privacy or rather… insulation? If you go during the day, there’s a bunch of older koreans who congregate there and it’s relatively quiet. I hope it stays that way!
