«A Book Above» features children’s books of excellence and character. We carry books that will encourage children to read, but also to dream, and pursue those dreams. Our hand-picked selection of about 5,000 titles includes board and picture books, juvenile/middle readers, and many titles for youth/teen. We also have a selection of cookbooks, memoirs, parenting, and teaching books that cater to parents.
«A Book Above» has connected with local artisans to offer crystal jewelry and handknit hats. Other gift items: watches, change purses, wallets for children & youth.
Story Times:
Wednesdays and Thursdays from 10:30−11 am for ages 2 – 5
Monthly events highlight topics like baseball, hockey, trains, etc.

History
Established in 2013.
«A Book Above» was the vision of a single self-supporting Mom. As she raised her children, she continued to pursue books that would not only encourage her children to read, but to help others, to step to a higher goal, to look outside of their own world.
After years of doing this, and looking for local bookstores to help in this pursuit, Carolyn Carrillo decided that her own town, Elmhurst, would be a great place for such a resource.
«A Book Above» has grown out of that pursuit, of searching for great books. It has now combined with a strong desire to help children develop a love for reading, and use that skill to pursue bigger dreams.
With only one other children’s bookstore in the Chicago suburbs, the owner feels that «A Book Above» will become a favorite destination of parents and children alike!

Business Owner
Carolyn is the mom of two children. She loves books, and she things they are SO critical in the lives of children.
It is her heart to help kids of all ages connect with books that touch on passions in their heart. Some kids will be able to come visit the store. Other kids, she hopes to help with the children’s literacy charity, Readers Ignite, that she has launched.
Whether it is at the store, A Book Above, or a charity event through Readers Ignite, she hopes to meet up with you one day — soon. And discuss your latest good read!
