R-P-W Obstetrics & Gynecology

This is my first pregnancy so I didn’t really know a lot about picking the right gynecologist. Honestly, I wish I had chosen another place. Most of the doctors are nice, however my appointments are really rushed and impersonal. I really don’t like how you see a new doctor every visit. However, I LOVE the nurses! The nurses are great about answering questions over the phone. The on call doctors at night do a great job calling back right away, no matter the time. I also like how they can always get you in to see a nurse if there is any kind of emergency. However, I recently switched doctors because I did not feel listened to.

Have never been «talked at» like that in all my 40+ years of seeing a doctor! Wow! I think my jaw was somewhere on the floor about 2 minutes into the appointment. Immediately, the doctor walked in and didn’t want to shake my hand — that’s alright with me, I suppose, as long as they are good at what they do I’m willing to overlook bedside manner — whatever. She wound up ending the appointment NOT shaking my hand and slammed the door so maybe this is just how it is, not sure if this was a really unusual bad morning but those sort of things when you’re not feeling well don’t make you feel any better.
Immediately (within the first minute of the appt) I was told by the Dr. that «you are probably not going to find answers» (in reference to pain I was experiencing) — to be honest, I hadn’t even had a discussion with the Dr. regarding my symptoms since she last saw me so she was getting this information from somewhere (recent radiology report, I suppose), but hadn’t even talked with her. It’s just a personal pet peeve of mine when doctors try and «filter» any test results. My results indicated I had an ovarian cyst 3.3cm and the doctor told me that it was 3 cm big and «nothing to cause the pain», maybe .3 seems like nothing to everyone else, but when it’s YOUR body and YOUR health, you want someone «straight-​forward» and I felt as though the entire BRIEF appointment my issue was «downplayed» — not JUST the .3 cm on the cyst measurement, but just in general, felt like none of the symptoms I was explaining to the doctor could be possible since pain was on the right side and cyst was on the left — I think this doctor felt like she had to «set me straight» on so many things like «referred pain». I was staring right at the radiology report reading «3.3 cm» — so disturbing that the Dr. wouldn’t just tell me the number direct from the report.
This is the 2^nd time I’ve seen this doctor and I remember now why I didn’t «click» with her the first time — pill pusher! My options were: birth control pill, try anti-​inflammatories for 2 – 3 weeks or some sort of IUD — after I told her I don’t like to take meds she basically told me to get a second opinion — no interest at all in finding a root cause for anything — it all sounded like a «shot in the dark» treatment. «You can try anti-​inflammatory meds for 2 – 3 weeks, very regimented and then we can see if that helps.» — really? Is this science? This is my body!
Honestly, you wait so long for an appointment, pay too much for insurance and too much for out-​of-​pocket expenses to get treated this way! If you like getting treated «below average» — this is the practice for you! This whole experience feeds into the whole stereotype of why people don’t like going to doctors.

This practice may be ok if you are 100% confident that you are going to have a perfectly normal pregnancy, but if you have any doubts about the progress of your pregnancy or are high risk, I would suggest you look else where for care. Due to their lack of proper care, my son was born severely ill, despite my many voiced concerns and I myself developed a pregnancy induced heart issue that should have been diagnosed while I was still pregnant. My son is unfortunately no longer with us and I am dealing with a heart issue. I was treated like a crazy pregnant person and wish I would have followed my gut and demanded better care.

Love Dr Fitz! He was always so talkative, loved my visits with him. He was great at answering any questions I had during my pregnancy and made sure I was on the right track with any birthing classes I wanted to attend. So sad we moved, I miss this office.

i have seen several doctors here over the years, and have referred a few friends who really appreciated the referral and still see these doctors.
i now see dr. kossoris, but have seen dr. fitzmaurice (older gent), dr. chen (mid aged lady), dr. sklar (mid aged dude), dr. pang (not there anymore).
i really like dr. kossoris. she has the most helpful and attentive, not too rushed bedside manner. she has great suggestions for things like «birth control» — and i’m sure «birthing», if that’s your thang.
really gentle, seems younger and remembers you and your issues, asks pertinent questions, not a lot of weird filler talk i’m not real interested in. all the doctors at this practice are good, but i prefer dr. kossaris now.

I would have given this practice 5 stars 2 years ago, but it’s been demoted. I’ll keep this as ‘PG’ as possible as to not upset any gentleman readers. Basically here’s the situation. I’ve gone to R-​P-​W for the past 7 years, and I have always loved Dr. Sklar. He is personable, knowledgeable and never judges you. He also has always taken extra time to educate you about general health, and seems like he is really keeping an eye out for anything that could be wrong. The nurses are also very accommodating, no complaints.
Well I have been there twice in the past 2 years, and I have noticed that the crowd seems to have changed. I think they’re accepting free clinic patients or something? Not to be rude but I don’t go to free clinics for a reason. I am not a huge fan of sitting in the waiting room with a bunch of pregnant teens talking about their homework, seriously. Also, my appointments have seemed rushed and not as thorough. I am just assuming that there is a correlation?
I have been super happy with Dr. Sklar in the past but think it may be time to start accepting recommendations for new Docs. See there wasn’t anything graphic now was there?
