Cameo Endodontics

I have had more root canals in my lifetime than I can count. I always went to the same doctor. When my regular dentist told me I needed another root canal, it was no big deal, until I discovered the gentleman I had been going to for over 25 years had retired. My dentist referred me to Dr. Raymond Munaretto, who with his brother had purchased my old Dr’s. practice. I was absolutely dreading my first appointment!
Dr. Raymond numbed my mouth with precision and very minor discomfort. He’s very pleasant and affable and let’s you know what he is doing (and seeing) throughout the procedure. His assistant, Diana (I assume a dental hygenist, but much more!) is just as pleasant as the doctor. After being in the chair for some time, as my procedure was very complicated… you can tell she has worked with him for a very long time (I found out on my second appointment she has been there 11 years). They work together like a precision team — very impressive!
My procedure was completed in two appointments, as I had three canals to be done. I swear to all that is holy that this was a 100% pain-​free procedure! When the novocaine wore off, I was not even sore — even able to eat normally!
I cannot recommend Dr. Munaretto enough. I cannot attest to the capabilities of the other doctors in this practice, as my dentist recommended only Dr. Raymond and his brother, Richard. My insurance considered Dr’s. Raymond and Richard as out-​of-​network and all the others in the practice are in-​network, which meant Dr. Raymond’s out of pocket cost was $ 150 higher. I opted to pay the higher co-​payment because I am adamant about referrals and recommendations from my doctor and previous patients.
If I ever need another root canal, Dr. Raymond Munaretto is my man!

Ok I am a dentalphobe. Big big baby. So I had been putting off dental work (root canal) for a long time. The pain became unbearable so I called and they got me in for the procedure in 24hrs. Guess what? Root canals can be pain free! The staff was very informative and courteous which alleviated my anxiety. Dr. Rick was exceptional! He told me what he was doing at all times. Honestly if I could get my teeth cleaned there I would. I cannot recommend them highly enough!

Wow. Phenomenal job. I had a tooth that was bothering me for 6 months that I had been ignoring because of school. I couldn’t drink on one side of my mouth… it was bad. Doctor Rick was very nice about telling me where I was in the procedure and what I should do when I study abroad. My tooth is now pain free and not sore at all which is surprising for a root canal.
Lupe was also unbelievably helpful. My insurance was very new and we weren’t sure whether we were covered. My mother was prepared to fork over $ 1000+, but Lupe dealt with the insurance company for us and got us the information we needed to save a ton of money. I cannot recommend this practice enough.

I’ve been meaning to write this review for a while. I’ve had several root canals at this office and each experience was great. I’ve seen Dr. Rick and Dr. Sommers in the past… both were great and very professional. Most recently I saw Dr. Babcic. My tooth had been hurting for a few days and I couldn’t take it anymore. She took me in the same day as an emergency. She explained everything to me, was really patient and took her time getting me numb. The entire process was pain free… and I didn’t even need to take any pain medication after. Highly recommend this office.

Pros: Doctor was experienced and was able to do an acceptable root canal.
Cons: Bedside manner– this doctor was arrogant, but tolerable.
The real problem is they misquoted me. I paid that day and then they called and said that insurance didn’t cover the full amount. I couldn’t pay that day, which seemed to be what they wanted, but I did pay the remainder quickly. Several months after I paid the amount I got a letter from a collection agency. Clearly they hadn’t marked me as paid. I’m now trying to dispute the mark on my credit (which made my credit go from Excellent to 700) and Cameo has not apologized or helped me resolve the issue.
Beware.

Having dental work is never fun but it’s nice to have a pleasant experience. I have now had more procedures here than I would like to admit and they have all been wonderful. The office is clean and has all the latest technology. Felt very comfortable having my work done there. Thanks Dr. Sommers!

I would like to let people know about Dr Sommers at Cameo Endodontics. He started a root canal on me but I never let him finish. I was in pain after the start of the root canal after (2 weeks) and asked to see him. We started out poorly on the phone the day I was scheduled to come in. I was calling before I was actually late… to let him know that I was going to be late for my appointment. After him telling me he couldn’t wait any longer for me because he had something to do after work. I told him fine forget it then. He then said know I’ll wait your in pain. We decided on a time 45 minutes later. I was there on time for that appointed time. I drive semi’s for a living. I asked to be off early… but my company failed to get me in on time to make my original appointment.(Not my fault).Once I arrived he saw me. I told him about the pain I had been in the weekend prior to our appointment. I called his office on a Saturday that weekend and was given prescriptions for antibiotics and Vicodin. I had finished all the antibiotics and was feeling slightly better but still in pain so that’s why I still went to see him on this appointment… just to see if anything was wrong. I detected his attitude had changed from our first visit. He questioned the amount of pain I said that I was in over the weekend. He said I couldn’t possibly be in the pain I was describing to him. He said he killed the nerves and that was impossible. He said I must have a very very very low tolerance for pain. He then decided to drill out the temporary just to check. He was much rougher this time than the first. I could detect his anger in his voice, his words and the fact that he gave me a shot of Novocaine waited 1 minute, came back gave me 2 more and was drilling a minute later. He took much more time the first time to make sure I was numb. During this process of drilling he repeated how I was keeping him from his prior engagement. I told him when he was finished that I felt much of what he did… he said nothing in reply. Bottom line he said there’s nothing wrong. I felt he was unprofessional, argumentative, immature and showed a lack of compassion. I felt he was arrogant and felt I was wasting his time. I scheduled my next appointment with Dr Rick to give Cameo one last chance to get this right. Dr Rick immediately realized I had a cracked tooth and wasn’t a candidate for the root canal. Something Dr Sommers didn’t notice after seeing me twice. Dr Rick said there was alot of pus and that the pain I was feeling was legit and he totally understood why I was in so much pain. Dr Sommers didn’t believe the pain I was in was real or at the level I said it was. Dr Rick pulled the tooth and did a bone graph for a future implant. I was extremely happy with Dr Rick and would go to him again for anything. Dr Sommers may have been having a bad couple weeks you decide!!!

Bad experience. I went to Cameo b/​c my general dentist referral on re-​treatment. But when I visited they told me to do Implants which costs about $ 4,000 instead of re-​treatment $ 150 with insurance cover.
I didn’t trust the assessment and went to other specialists. They all said I can get just re-​treatment. If I did implants with Cameo, I would have lost my natural teeth bone and structure and cost far more.

Amazingly horrible experience. Between the OP dentist who referred me for a root canal and then subsequent crown and the shoddy root canal job, I’m nor sure who to blame but myself.
The only root canal/​crown I’ve had, which cost me roughly $ 3K out of pocket. The crown has fallen off numerous times and I believed my dentist was to blame, though he said the reason could have been because the root canal failed and that I needed to have it retreated. Suspicious, I contacted two other dentists and had appointments with them outside of the OP area and dental referral monopoly.
It seems, according to both the dentists (and the orthodontist who I had also seen for a consult), that the root canal was «definitely not done by the books» and the post itself has to be completely restructured. I was advised my post is actually so shallow (and, also, fractured) that the crown is ill fitting and would be a repeat issue in the future.
So here is my long term review, three years later and 3 total crown reattachments, to boot. I suspect the issue was that the dentist at this clinic kept leaving me for 5 minute increments and coming back to finish various parts of the surgery. It was like going to Walgreens to get a prescription — people are too quick and far too busy trying to churn patients in and out to pay attention. Sad. Avoid.

I waited a year after my implant before writing this review to make sure nothing went terribly wrong during the healing process.
After having multiple surgeries through other dental practices to save a cracked tooth, I ended up at Cameo Endodontics when my dentist informed me there was nothing left they could do to save the tooth.
I went to Cameo and was assigned to Dr. Keith Sommers. I feel very lucky I had him. He is very personable and knowledgeable. He answered every question I had no matter how insignificant it might seem. I was really nervous about the procedures, but Dr. Sommer’s confidence and knowledge put me at ease. He just has a great way about him. He never made me feel rushed either. Yes they see multiple patients at one time, but I didn’t feel neglected. When it came time for the surgery to insert the implant, he wasn’t seeing other patients.
If I could clone Dr. Sommers I would because he is the perfect blend of friendly and competent for a doctor.
In addition — Cameo fit me into an earlier appointment than I was originally scheduled because my tooth was so badly infected.
I was surprised at some of the negative reviews, but I didn’t go to the other doctors. As far as the staff, they were always friendly and competent.

I needed to have a CBCT scan of a questionable tooth. I wasn’t really sure what to expect, but the staff was great with explaining what it was. They were all so helpful and courteous. Dr. Rick did a great job showing and explaining the results, and going over future treatment options, also. The whole appointment felt very comfortable, like old friends.

I haven’t had a root canal in a few years, but knew the pain when I felt it. I called and gave my symptoms to the receptionist. She spoke to the doctor and called me back within the hour. They squeezed me in as an emergency patient the same day. The doctor was so kind and informative. After a brief consultation, we decided to proceed with treatment. He performed a root canal on the tooth that had been causing me terrible pain. When it was done, it immediately felt better. The staff was so kind and gracious. I went there feeling horrible and crabby and left feeling on top of the world (no exaggeration)! I would recommend them to anyone in need of root canal treatment.

I was referred to Cameo Endodontics from my general dentist, after he determined that I needed a root canal that was out of his comfort level.
I was seen by Dr. Regina Rocha, who is a personable endodontist, with good credentials. She seemed to be seeing a few other patients at the same time. After a quick history, she began working on my tooth. At times, I felt that sufficient care was not being taken due to her having to attend to multiple rooms at the same time. One could tell, and I could feel, that she was in a hurry. I would have rather been told to come back at another time.
Unfortunately, my tooth became infected over the next few days, and I was in quite a bit of pain. The pain lasted a couple weeks, and into the follow-​up appointment with Dr. Rocha. She looked at my x-​ray and deemed ‘everything was fine’, and fell short on giving me options other that to ‘wait it out’. Unfortunately, I could not wait it out because of difficulty eating, and had to go to another endodontist for a second opinion.
Perhaps my experience is isolated. The owner did offer to have my tooth seen by another endodontist at no charge after my original Unilocal posting.

Maybe they were just having a bad day… this was my first visit to this dentist, but since almost all of my dental experiences have been positive, I expected the best. Walking into the office, I was greeted with a sign that read, «Turn off Cell Phones. No Food or Drinks.» The receptionist did not greet me. She barely met my eyes as she handed me a clipboard with a stack of forms to fill out, along with brisk instructions. I filled out my forms, and was called back to the dental examination room.
Since I was not greeted, but directed, to the dental chair, I can only assume it was a dental hygienist who proceeded to take x-​rays of tooth #3. When she could not take a clear x-​ray on her third try, she called in a person in blue scrubs, who — again — did not introduced herself. I was beginning to wonder if they were pulling them in from the bus stop outside the office.
Moving on to x-​ray number four, I expressed concern at the amount of trouble they seemed to be having x-​raying tooth #3. The girl in blue scrubs flippantly rolled her eyes and said, «X-​rays are important.» Taking a deep breath, I considered the time out of my day I had scheduled for the appointment, the time I had spent driving and finding the dental office, and the fact that I was primed for a root canal and had already written my check for $ 1095.00. I admonished myself to be patient. Then myself said to me, «This feels all wrong.»
So I stood up and said, «I am not having a root canal. This is not the right place for me.»
It seems from the other review, I may be in the minority so it may have just been a bad day. I did rescheduled the appointment with another dentist the next day and had great experience.

Great job and painless procedure. Was referred to this doctor by Dr. Robert Marrero. I had a root canal done in October by Dr. Ray Munaretto and I was more than satisfied with the procedure. Great staff.

Before I begin, I should ask, is there even such a thing as a 4-​star root canal? Well, it seems most people I know living on the NW side of Chicago, the surrounding near northwest or near west suburbs have been here or know someone who has come to this place at least once. My mom and my wife are among them. Now it was my turn to see these dental specialists.
I had an upper molar giving me occasional pain, especially at night. I’d sometimes feel a slight throbbing in the daytime too. Sometimes at night, my whole right side of the jaw would ache. When my regular dentist took an X-​ray, he referred me to these guys. Cameo seems pretty hard to get an appointment quickly, as you need a 1 or 2 week wait. For most people with a toothache, it’s not soon enough. I guess I was lucky since it didn’t bother me much at all most of the time.
The Munaretto family (Richard, Rick and Ray) run the practice. They also have a partner, Dr. Keith Sommers, who breaks their pattern of alliteration. I went with whichever dentist was available, so it ended up being Ray. Their office is very clean and has that sanitary scent only a dental clinic seems to have. Though they have been in business a long time, I was impressed to see their equipment looked very new and their furnishings looked current too.
Dr. Ray first ran a cold-​sensitivity test on the suspect tooth. The fact I could not feel cold on it meant the nerve was dying and a root canal was necessary. I could come back for the procedure later, but I decided to get it done since I was already there. I got 2 shots to numb the area. He did it with such precision that my cheek, lips and tongue did not feel numb at all! I was even wondering if he gave enough novocaine. It seems I’ve gotten way more for simple fillings in the past. He waited about 20 minutes for the stuff to work, then he came back, put a little bracket over the suspect tooth and stretched that dental latex barrier around it. The procedure went very quickly and in what seemed like just a few minutes, he was done. And sure enough, the nerve was decaying inside. He pointed out that if I had put off the procedure, I would have had a toothache. He cleaned the tooth, filled it and it was over without any incident. I had no pain and it seemed almost as easy as a filling, if not quicker. I’ll need to come back for a followup visit in 2 weeks.
I think root canals get a bad reputation. If you have a bad tooth bothering you, the few minutes of drilling and cleaning are way better than hours or days of pain from the tooth. And these guys do it for a living, so they got the experience to do it right. I got home and I even had steak & potatoes just a short time after. I’m happy to say I’m still pain-​free more than 6 hours later. The numbing wore off quickly. Though I got a painkiller prescribed, I found I didn’t even need to use it.
So if you got that bothersome tooth on your mind, come on over to this place and let one of the Munaretto’s drill away your worry once and for all.
