This is by far the best sushi place I’ve been to! Everything is fresh and well presented & the servers are all very sweet.

I’ve tried every sushi bar in the East Bay and I have to admit that Kyu 2 is my favorite! They have wonderfully friendly staff in an upbeat contemporary atmosphere. And because they are Thai, every dish is served with artistic flair.(wish I could post a photo of their beautiful plate styling) The fish is always fresh and delicious. I make a point of eating there at least once a week. Sometimes crowded during lunch, but well worth a short wait.

Mediocre food from top to bottom. Ordered the lunch box special: miso soup and salad(both boring and cheap product), spicy tuna roll(overcooked rice and not enough special sauce), teriyaki chicken over rice(also overcooked rice), and albacore sashimi(poorly sliced). Came out to $ 13 and some change for a forgettable meal.

Cute place, with a nice ambiance. I always pick up the california roll. Have had other choices and they were good.

Too dark. I and another man next to me absolutely could not see the menu. It is so dark in this place. The vegetarian gyozas tasted good, but the top rim of dough was very dry. My ramen was pretty good, but the soup was a little sweet. Maybe it’s because I’m used to Phở whenever I go out for noodle soup. The staff was very friendly.

I would say not all of their food is really Japanese food(I went to Japan twice so it’s easy to compare for me) but the food itself is great! I really like this place, trying to visit it at least once a month. When this place is busy waitress is busy as well, what make sense, lol, so I don’t really understand people who saying that the personal is not responsive, IMO.

Everything about this location is cute, from the size of the place to the plate presentation. Deffinetly one of my favorite sushi spots.

It’s a great place to get my sushi fix during the work week because it’s within walking distance for me. I’ve been here multiple times, either trying the bento box, the chirashi don and even the sashimi combos. Quality — fresh fish every time I go. There is never a let down when I go. Everything tastes delicious and the pieces for sashimi are quite generous compared to some other places I’ve been to. The kinds of sashimi pieces chosen could’ve been a better selection, but the quality and cut made up for that fact. Service — they have never been rude to me or my coworkers, but a little on the slow side. I try to come before the lunch rush though to get better service and it’s still 50 – 50 on faster service. If you order ahead, give it about 15 mins for a pick up and don’t go around noon if you don’t have much time.

I feel so DISAPPOINTED with this place. I came in with some friends and our kids. Since we entered the place, server Tammy was very rude to us. I don’t know if it was because we came in with our kids. She had no reason to be mean with us. And just to be clear, our kids were behaving well. First of all, she took a while to get our drink order. Second, she was making mean faces and her voice was not kind. After we ordered our food, she never came back to see how we were doing or if we wanted something else. Our drinks were empty and she never cared. Really, it’s the first time I’ve been treated so badly! On top of that, since we were six in total she decided to include gratuity on our bill but she added 18%!! How can anyone give her that percentage if the service was terrible! She was very smart! Anyways, food was okey but the WORST service ever. I’m never coming back! I hope the manager or the owner reads this.

Nice place with quick service. Sushi — very fresh with great flavor(and beautifully decorated) Salmon teriyaki — disappointing. There was way too much sauce and it was really thick and not great. The actual fish was small and got lost in all the sauce. Chicken katsu — excellent! It was perfectly cooked and had a great taste. Service — was 50⁄50. The food came extremely quick but then they forgot we existed… Overall, if we get stuck in traffic again this will definitely be on the list for a return visit

The restaurant is pretty much attached to my building so I figured it best to know my neighborhood eateries and make the journey over for some sushi. The first thing I noticed was the size of the restaurant and how easily it could potentially crowd. We made our way in and were not greeted by any of the employees, not because of sheer disregard for the customer but because the two employees that they did have working on a busy Friday night were tending to every single table in the establishment. This really proved to be the extent of the restaurants problems. When I our waitress did finally approach us, we made sure that we asked for everything we could think of possibly needing because we weren’t sure when the next visit was going to be. The one positive thing that did stand out was when one of our orders came out incorrect, the staff was quick to correct the issue. The food was about average for sushi and the prices were low but the wait time may put a damper on your evening. I may return to restaurant but not when I am extremely hungry.

Came in for the happy hour(goes until 8!!) twice but only ever ordered the sushi pizza and a few simple rolls so I don’t feel as though I can really speak for the freshness of the sashimi. The rolls were otherwise pretty decent, and visually very impressively plated next to the fancy swirls of sauce. There are quite a few deals during happy hour, but«sushi pizza» was so interestingly named I just couldn’t pass it up. It essentially turned out to be a deconstructed sushi roll– seaweed separated from a layer of sushi rice by some sort of rice cracker/wafer to keep the moisture away, spicy tuna on top, and healthy squiggles of kewpie/bbq/etc sauce on top. Oh, and also some roe. All in all not bad, though the rice can be filling rather quickly. During my last visit here I did not have the best service: the waitress was very huffy, almost rude, in her manner both when seating my party and also when taking our order. The restaurant was not particularly crowded, so I couldn’t really understand why she also seemed borderline angry when I tried to catch her attention(with just a silent raised hand) on her way back to the counter to request more water. I will eventually be back to try out the other sushi and ramen here, hopefully the service will be more pleasant.

I ordered to go. Service friendly. I got sushi and it smelled sour but when I opened box it was fine. Portions of fish were a good size. It’s a take it or leave it kind of place.

This is one of my regular lunch spots when working in Emeryville, and the food is generally good to very good. The bento box is a very filling meal, and the variety of choices make it easy for people who do not like sushi, or want vegetarian options, to dine well. Some of the dishes are variable, and only average, but never bad. The sushi quality is consistently good to excellent, but the miso soup is sometimes rather tasteless, and options like chicken teriyaki can be anywhere from good to uninspiring, depending on the day. The staff are friendly, cheerful and helpful. I like the chill music I often hear in the background, which gives this spot a casual, hip feeling. During the summer, there is a nice outdoor dining area on the street. Good choice for a casual lunch, and quiet enough to talk. Also good for smaller groups of up to eight, especially if you arrive before noon for lunch.

Kyu 2 Sushi is small for a sushi place, 15 tables at most. menu: mostly sushi rolls, nigiri, bento box? not sure eats: chirashi don(21.50) –miso soup too salty –salad had no dressing, avocado slices topping. –sushi rice only slightly vinegared, gummy chirashi: 2 tamago, 3 butterfish, 3 hamachi, 2 saba, 3 tuna, 3 sake, 3 suzuki, pieces of mushrooms and daikon. *only hamachi, butterfish fresh, other sashimi bland temaki: –not a good value. sashimi/food poor quality 2.5 stars –definitely msg aftertaste, msg most likely in the rice.

I ordered food here last week. I got a spicy miso ramen and a baked scallop roll. The food as okay, at best. The service was good and quick so that was a plus, but besides that nothing to write home about(well, unless Unilocal is your home, i guess). Anyways the ramen was very very spicy, which I like, but it lacked flavor all around. It just wasn’t that good. The baked scallop roll was pretty solid, but it was pretty fishy — as in not fresh. Probably won’t be back here but its not a terrible option.

Not so great sushi, not so great service. The miso soup was way too concentrated and my boyfriend even thought it was sour. The unagi hand roll I had was not good. It was very small and the unagi was a bit rubbery. The two rolls the boyfriend and I shared were not good. The fish was not fresh and it wasn’t very tasty. The sushi made my stomach hurt later on. The waitresses weren’t very friendly and made the experience just more unpleasant.

Came here with my co-workers yesterday for my b-day(THANKSAGAINGUYS!!!). As for the restaurant, the negative reviews about this place are dead on. 1.) The place smells REALLY fishy and ends up on your clothes. I noticed the smell on my skin 5 hours later while working out. 2.) Service is poor. I got a seafood salad and wanted to get a different salad dressing and the owner tried to throw an attitude with me. 3.) Food is mediocre at best. The lobster tasted like it was previously frozen yet they have signs claiming their food is fresh, ya, right! Overall, the negative reviews are legit, be careful peeps, you don’t want to get sick from eating bad fish, ITSPAINFUL(been there done that). I’ll never eat here again!!! Buyer beware.
