Coastal Animal Hospital is North County San Diego’s newest veterinary clinic, opening in a classic Encinitas location. Occupying the old Lou’s Records building, we have renovated the site to become a premier veterinary hub for Encinitas, Leucadia, Carlsbad, Cardiff-​by-​the-​Sea, Solana Beach, Rancho Santa Fe, Del Mar, and the rest of San Diego.

We not only offer top-​notch medicine, surgery, and preventative care, but also offer the convenience of having most services performed right in your own home as a housecall. If a housecall is not your cup of tea, our lobby will help make you feel like you are still at home. With fresh beverages, couches, tables, and Wifi, you will feel like you never left your own space. We strive to maintain a stress-​free environment for you and your pet. Come on down and see how we are different.

History

Established in 2011.

Coastal Animal Hospital is an extension of Dr. Evans’ housecall practice. If his patients needed to come in to the office, he wanted it to feel as cozy and comfortable as their own home. Behind the scenes, Dr. Evans also wanted to create a modern hospital which would allow him and his team to practice the best medicine possible based on the idea that «less can be more» and technology is a path to decreased pain and obtaining better outcomes.

Brian Evans, DVM started his housecall practice in 2008 shortly after moving back to San Diego. He has recently taken this full time and has opened a new hospital in Encinitas where he will continue to perform housecalls as well as have the option to bring patients in when needed (or preferred). I rescued my first puppy in November and took the recommendation of a friend who brings his adult dog here after trying many vets in Encinitas. I am BEYOND happy and super comfortable with Dr. Evans and Dr. Bishop. I highly recommend this facility. The nurses are amazing as well. I love everything about this place. My pup was just sick for the first time and I could not imagine better treatment. I trust them completely!

After terminating coastal animal and evans, I took my dog to another vet. Blood panel showed my dog was hypothyroid. We now will put her on the proper medication. Coastal animal similarly performed such an assay in 2012 and like now, my dog showed low levels of thyroid hormone. 6 months later same result. BUT evans told me not to worry about it. So now for at least 4 years my dog has suffered this condition, which can indeed result in a poor lifestyle and cardiac disease. My current vet was rather shocked that my dog was not put on medication earlier.
The costs for a blood panel workup is about $ 200. The cost of thyroid medicine is about 15 cents per day. Another example of the pursuit of money over the welfare of the patient!

Dr. Bishop and the whole staff at Coastal Animal Hospital were wonderful! Very knowledgeable, caring and made me and Rocky feel very much at home. The facility is super nice too — clean, well decorated, has a beverage bar, and was very comfortable. 5 stars all the way!!!

Took our dog in for an initial visit, check up. We wanted to meet Dr Evans and see how he did with our dog. Dr Evans was great. He was on time for out appt, took his time with our dog and us and answered every question we had, taking the time to explain so we understood.
We’ve been to many vets over the years and Dr Evans was great with BOTH our dog and with us. That’s not very common in our experiences.
We will definitely be back for our dog’s health. Thank you!

We took our new lab puppy, Beacon, in for his first visit this weekend and had an amazing experience with Dr. Evan’s and the entire staff! Everyone we interacted with was so passionate about animals and really made the whole experience extremely pleasant for both Beacon and us! Beacon loved playing with all of the staff and was so relaxed he fell asleep on the floor for the majority of the appointment. The office was extremely clean and beautifully decorated– it didn’t even feel like a doctors office! They also have a great puppy plan to discount all of his mandatory shots if we pay upfront and included an entire puppy kit full of emergency supplies and little things to help keep him healthy that are kind of annoying to pay for (like nail clippers and pill injectors). We grilled Dr. Evan’s about animal nutrition and what is real versus what is just skilled marketing practices and he had some amazing insight on meat by-​products and a proper diet for Beacon! We are so happy with our choice and look forward to working with them in the future!

I’ve been coming to Coastal Animal Hospital for a couple of years. My dog usually hates the vet but they are so great with her. It’s easy to get an appointment and the prices are reasonable. I will definitely keep bringing her here.

I had the most heartbreaking and disappointing experience of my life as a dog owner. When I took issue with a medication that they prescribed for my dog without asking if he was prone to seizures they refused to return it for a safer medicine for him. When I pushed the issue they told me they would no longer treat either of my dogs. I had just spend $ 583 and more importantly started a course of treatment with them for my very sick dog. They are extremely expensive, and if you don’t follow everything to the letter they have a holier than thou attitude, and have set me adrift with my sick dog because they didn’t like me personally. They are lovely if you have your credit card out and sign on for every expensive thing that they ask. I wonder if they had such an easy time dismissing me because I asked if they had a payment plan for their overpriced dental care. Please don’t take your pet here.

I have owned animals all my life and really didn’t understand the value of a good vet until we came to Coastal Animal Hospital. Dr. Evans and Dr. Bishop are compassionate, intelligent, and do a great job communicating to pet owners.
A few weeks back our American Bully dog (70lbs) decided to chew through a bottle (80pills) of Liquid gel cap Aleave. My wife and I became terrified after doing some research online on the effects of Aleave in a dog. (especially on that scale).
Coastal Animal walked us throughout the every step and helped us understand all options. They really eased our minds when it came to what the right thing to do was. It seemed like the docs and staff bent over backwards to save our pup.
Savannah (dog) is doing great now. I currently am in the office now to check up on her kidney levels.

Exceptional care, they are patient, great sense of humor, wonderful staff, professional and they educate you on treatment plans, cost and options. For us, our pets care have been a priority for us so we look for quality high standard in patient care, ability to educate us, caring staff, clean office, patient with our pets and us and give us options without surprises. Having a «in-home”/moble service was just a bonus! We are thankful and blessed these Doctors here and staff demonstrate these qualities.

We recently moved to Encinitas and found Coastal Animal Hospital when my pup decided to eat something he shouldn’t. I was super happy with the professionalism, cleanliness, friendly staff and great vet! He took the time to explain different treatment options and made me feel very comfortable. After 20 years driving back to the LA area for vet care I finally decided to find a local vet for my aging Golden Retrievers. I had an 911 issue back in January and The Dr’s stayed late to operate on my Clare. Needing senior dog care Dr Evans was very clear about option, treatment and prognosis. We finally had to say good bye to our 13 yr old but the last two months were worth it.
Dr Even is now caring for my other 13 yr old and she seems to be perking up and doing much better Not much you can do at 13!
Staff is kind, call to follow up and are very helpful on the phone.

After moving here from New York City, I was desperate to find an amazing vet for my aging kitty. I gratefully stumbled upon Dr. Evans’ practice and what a relief it was to know that my beloved would be taken care of in the best ways possible. When decisions don’t come easy, this hospital guides me kindly and professionally, keeping me informed of the entire process and what to expect… NOT to mention how accommodating they have been in times of need with urgent health issues. Love them! Dr. Evans is so great with my pups. He takes his time and is very informative. I love his energy. I have happily worked with some of the other vets in his office. Always a wonderful experience. They have been with me through wellness exams, surgeries, cancer, and coming to my house to put my old guy down. All of the other staff there are great too. So caring and professional! I moved out of North County, but I will happily drive up to Coastal for all of my pups needs. Coastal is truly a wonderful place!

What a great team they have! I took in our 18 month old English Mastiff to get a lap spay… what an amazing experience. Lois is doing great, doesn’t seem the least bit uncomfortable!
I dropped her off at 0800 and she was ready to be picked up by. 1:30!!! What a pleasant surprise…

My beautiful Aussie has had allergy issues her whole life. We previously treated with Dr. Milton Gee for most of my pups 12 years. But I felt we needed a fresh set of eyes to treat my girl. A close friend recommended Coastal Animal Hospital so I made an appointment at their earliest time which wasn’t for several days.
When we arrived in the fresh, clean, brightly decorated office, I immediately liked the vibe. The staff welcomed us and my girl gave the waiting room the once over.
We were brought into the exam room in a timely manner and when Dr. Evans walked in and sat on the floor I did the same. I explained why we were there and he proceeded to cajole my shy girl into liking him. He agreed we should test her for a yeast infection in her ears and also noticed she possibly had a UTI. He explained all of my options and we decided on a plan of treatment. He even went over the cost of treatment which no other doctor has ever done.
Turns out my girl was a chocolate mess and tested positive for both conditions. He gave her a shot to reduce her itchy scratchies and wanted to see us in a few weeks to see her progress.
Overall I loved this vet practice and had to laugh when my dog walked into the bathroom and drank from the toilet. I guess she felt right at home as well!
