Edward B. Coffey, DDS MS is dedicated to excellence in general and cosmetic dentistry and has been practicing dentistry in Encinitas since 1984. For over 31 years, families from Encinitas and surrounding areas have relied on Dr. Coffey for preventative dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, and restorative dentistry, as well as personalized service and quality dental care.

Dr. Coffey is a Prosthodontist offering several services and treatments with expertise ranging from porcelain veneers to dental implants, crowns, bridges, and dentures. We also offer teeth whitening, nightguards, sleep apnea appliances, full mouth reconstructions, and more. Dr. Coffey provides emergency dental care 24 hours a day for his existing patients, as well as for new patients.

History

Established in 1984.

Dr. Coffey opened his practice in Encinitas in 1984. Since then, over 15,000 patients have entrusted their dental care to him. His first office was located just east of I-​5 on Encinitas Blvd. In 1992, he expanded his office when he moved to his current location at 1445 Encinitas Blvd. He designed his new office to best fit the comfort and quality he wanted for his patients and staff members with:

Dr. Coffey was born in Boston, Massachusetts and raised in Guatemala City, Guatemala. He speaks both English and Spanish. After graduating with his DDS (Doctor of Dental Surgery) from The University of San Carlos, Guatemala in July of 1979 he continued his education at the University of Michigan, where he obtained a full ride scholarship because of his academic excellence. In 1981 he graduated with a Masters of Science in prosthodontics (crowns, bridges and dentures). After graduation he was invited to come back to the University of Michigan as an assistant professor with tenure to help teach the junior and senior dental students the art of fixed and removable prosthodontics. In addition, Dr. Coffey is trained in TMJ disorders, implant restorations, and maxillofacial prosthetics.

Dr. Coffey and his hygienists are absolutely wonderful. I changed dentists because of insurance and tried three other dentists. I was extremely disappointed and I’m back to stay with Dr. Coffey; I’m never going to leave this office again. They are the BEST!!!

Dr Coffey has been my dentist for over 20 years. I’ve never had a complaint! He’s the best! His staff is wonderful! Office is efficiently run and very friendly. Anna, who has cleaned my teeth for years, is wonderful too. She’s gentle and does a great job.

Dr. Coffey has been my dentist for over 20 years and I highly recommend him as a dentist. I recently had a crown completed and had a pleasant experience thanks to one of his painless shots. He doesn’t overdisgnose and he recommends treatment only when it’s needed. Additionally, he takes the time to explain what the problem is and actually shows you by using his intra-​oral camera. His office is very modern and has upgraded technology. Some of the staff has been there since my first visit and they are a great team. I wouldn’t trust any other dentist than Dr. Coffey!

Need an honest, experienced, and extremely skilled dentist AND staff who is courteous, hygienists who are thorough, gentle and professional… well look no further and go to this practice and you will hit the jackpot! I can’t say enough about this practice. I went to another dental practice foolishly thinking I could save money with those promotions you get in the mail after years of great service with Dr. Coffey’s practice, but NO they tried to tell me I had 3 cavities and it would cost $ 450! Went back to Dr. Coffey for 2nd opinion & I brought him the treatment plan from the other practice and he said «it would be a sin to drill into those teeth» and that there are no cavities Plus his 2nd opinion was FREE! He showed with the camera the teeth in question and was shocked at how another practice would have a patient pay for unnecessary dental work. YES Dr. Coffey also offers 1st time patients a special introductory price in flyers, BUT he’s honest & good at his craft. My husband also goes to him. I will never go to another dentist as long as he’s in practice.

I went to Dr. Coffey today for an emergency root canal. The receptionist was so polite and kind to me when I called for an appointment, and squeezed me in even though they were booked since I was in pain.
Everyone I met there, from the receptionists to the dental hygienist to Dr. Coffey were extremely friendly and accommodating, and had great bedside manner. I was very anxious about getting a root canal, but they answered every question, were respectful, and the hygienist assured me that it would be painless because he’s such a good doctor and very conscientious. And it was! I don’t know what he did, but the novacaine was «ouchless», and I didn’t really feel much at all throughout the whole procedure!
The office was comfortable, and they did so much to make me feel relaxed. I loved their TV on the ceiling, so I was able to watch Project Runway while they were doing the work– I even had a blanket and a pillow to hold on to!
I’m very happy to give this dentist five stars– the best dentist I’ve been to in over twenty years.

I found Dr. Coffey several years ago when my previous dentist messed up a crown application. Dr. Coffey set things right quickly and painlessly.
He has a fun personality (if you have an appointment on Halloween you may find a vampire checking your bicuspids) and an office full of friendly staff. He makes eye contact and really talks to you, not at you.
He also practices common sense dentistry. He’ll tell you all the advantages and disadvantages of each avenue of treatment and let you decide, unlike my previous dentist, who insisted I needed to replace all of my childhood fillings (I had lots of cavities as a kid) because «they’re about to fall out».
Dr. Coffey recommended we wait and see how my old fillings lasted, rather than replace them all as a preventative measure. It’s been over 10 years since then, and most of those old fillings are still hanging in there.
Now my whole family goes to Dr. Coffey — even my husband, whose childhood dentistry experiences were even worse than mine. For a guy who used to hate going to the dentist, he is now one of Dr. Coffey’s most loyal patients.
