These guys are honest, reasonably priced for the job and fast. My car was finished before promised time. I will definitely be back and highly recommend Gary and crew. Very nice guys and excellent service!

My first time checking out Aloha due to friends recommendation and the Unilocal reviews and I say they all hold true! I was very pleased with my service! Gary was very friendly and honest. I thought for sure I needed brakes and turns out I only needed some brake fluid. I really appreciated the honesty and because I saved on my brakes i was able to fix my a/​c that had been down 2 years and it had been miserable. Wasn’t a cheap fix, I needed all new compressor in which I had already known that’s why I waited so long. Gary got the job done fast and was very reasonable. So happy to finally find a nice mechanic, I will always go back here! I live close so was great to walk home while I waited but Captain Keno’s is right next door so you can always pop in for a beer while you wait which is convenient :)

Would like to recommend this place. Gary is nice guy and help me a lot for service & reasonable price. Would be back!!!

I’ll never take my car anywhere else! Justin helped me but everyone there is really nice and knowledgeable. I never write Unilocal reviews but I know It’s so hard to find a trustworthy mechanic. They have saved me hundreds of dollars by fixing things rather than replacing them after I was told otherwise by other shops.

Fortunately it is just a minute around the corner from me, but I would happily travel farther. Gary is a straight talker. Told me exact price out the door before he started (26.80 end price) on a Ford Explorer. Called him up, he told me I could come over immediately. Said come back in 30 minutes; I did and it was done; invoice was ready for me to sign and pay for. He let me know about a coolant leak I hadn’t mentioned, but that I already knew about. He informed of the leak and where it was coming from. Said it wasn’t urgent, but should be taken care of sooner rather than later. Just plain looks out for his customers. Got a very friendly and competent vibe from Gary at Aloha. Will be returning!

Gary is back! Hopefully he stays this time.

If I could give extra stars I would! Just to begin, I was referred to Aloha auto repair by the local smog check station. Crystal at the smog check station had nothing but positive things to say about John and Gary at Aloha. I used their services for my 2012 VW Jetta TDI. They did a standard oil change on it. I immediately left town for 4 days after they complete the job. I noticed some noises under the hood of my car while I was driving. It sounded like something bouncing or «clinging» around on a metal surface. I brought it back to Gary as soon as I got back in town with the assumption that something might have been bouncing around in my engine apartment from when they did the service. As it turns out the noises were coming from many gravel rocks that were inside certain areas of my engine compartment. I immediately remembered that I had driven down a road that was being repaved and re gravelled. I distinctly remember a lot of rocks bouncing off the ground and into the undercarriage of my car. As soon as I realized that I was so grateful and thankful of Gary and I wanted to make sure to pay him for his services because that was nothing that him or any of his employees had caused. But, he took the time anyways to figure it out. He refused to let me pay and demanded on a handshake. I just moved to the area 6 months ago and I know for a fact that I will be using Aloha auto from now on and trusting them with my references as well. In my opinion this company is full of integrity, honesty, and not to mention great prices. Thank you Gary and the whole team from Aloha auto repair! I will see you guys soon for the transmission service again.

Two years later. same 6 star review! Gary is back! He will work with you and become that mechanic friend you’ve always wanted. A great friendship builds over the years of going to Aloha: you keep going to his shop, and you’ll get consistently good service! Thanks for breathing life into my old gal again :)

One of the spark plugs on my car literally blew out of my engine. Had to stay at the hotel for the night. And just went to closes mechanic shop to it.
Expecting to pay some BS pricing with a bonus BS story on why it must be done.
John, the owner, took a look at it made sure everything is okay fixed right up and sent me on my way at no charge.
Even declined donuts…

Very fast. John gives a fair price, more than half what the dealer would charge me. What else is there to say? These guys only want you to get what you need, no selling BS. This is my second time using Aloha and I’ve been very satisfied both times

Amazing! The owner John was the most kind, honest and friendly person in Encinitas. Our vehicle broke down on a Saturday and we got it towed into his shop knowing we were lucky to find a mechanic open on weekends. He got to work as soon as we arrived and even came in on his day off (Sunday) to finish! His price was below online estimates and he did the «little extras» like adding a bolt I was missing and lending us a battery charger. John is very knowledgeable and extremely professional. I definitely recommend Aloha Auto Repair!

I was in for my regular oil change a few months back only to discover what others have already said, that Gary no longer runs the shop and has gone back to Hawaii. New guy honored the pricing I have always gotten there, but suggested some other work be done on my vehicle and when I questioned it he came back later and said he was mistaken. Not too comfortable with that so I have found another shop to work on my vehicles.

I have been going to aloha for years and they have always done right by me. I read the recent reviews and was worried things had changed. I left my car there as they tried to find a part for me. they couldn’t find the part and didn’t charge me for any of the work they did.

My dad was a mechanic, so I find it hard to trust anyone. But I trust Aloha, they have always given great service.

Just a word of caution, Gary no longer runs the shop. He moved away and I will be taking my business elsewhere

I wish I had remember who the gentleman was who helped, but it was probably Gary.
I called in earlier the day to see if they had an opening for a last minute oil change. He stated they do and they can get around to it as long as it comes before 4:30 pm.
I got it there at 4:15 and was out at 4:40. The price was rather cheap for synthetic oil.
I hung out in the office and read my book on their massage chair. No oil stains, grease stains, and a friendly reminder sticker was on my window.
I highly recommend Aloha.

Gary is an awesome person! — polite, considerate, honest, hardworking, meticulous, thoughtful.
He and his team replaced the clutch plate/​disc and release bearings on my civic si for roughly $ 740 (parts+labor), equivalent to the parts only cost at a local honda dealership. And they did it all in less than 24hrs during a busy president’s day period.
Worth taking a chance on, if you’re looking for a new mechanic fo sho!

Great prices, massage chair while you wait… I got a full oil change for my Cadi Escalade (normally super spendy) AND a massage for $ 25 — Awesome.
