I really don’t like to give bad reviews, especially when the low rating is not the Kitchen Witch’s fault, but they did offer the service and never got back to me. Let me explain: a few weeks ago a brought eight of my knives to the Kitchen Witch to be sharpened. The lady told me that they are not doing the sharpening themselves, but have someone that has been sharpening knives for them for a long time. $ 16 and 60 minutes later I was back at home only to discover that the blades had totally been ground down and was not even a ‘cutting edge’. The knives were so dull I could not even cut a tomato. I am not kidding! I did call the Kitchen Witch, explained the situation and was promised a callback. .. to this day no one has called. IFYOULOVEYOURKNIVESPLEASEDON’T TAKETHEMTOTHEKITCHENWITCH. Today I went to the mobile knife sharpener at the Vista farmers market and they are as sharp as the day I got them.

I love this place! I’ve been taking cooking classes here for 15+ years. Phillis Carey is my favorite instructor/cookbook author – she makes cooking fun, interesting and easy – and she dishes out good-sized portions. Sign up for her cocktail classes– I usually go with a group of friends and see a lot of the«regulars» there. It’s a very cozy, casual setting – and you get a nice discount on store items if you take a cooking class. I like the idea of supporting a local business owner rather than a «chain» store. I think I own just about every gadget Phillis has demonstrated at class – and I love the food products for sale. You can sign up for classes online, and find a link for shopping:

If you find yourself in the kitchen a lot, this is the place to find whatever it is you don’t have! Great people in there to answer all your questions too! I also find myself going there to pick up some fresh gourmet coffee to take home.
