If you could give it zero I would. Advertised a 10:15 showing on various websites, including their own, and their answering machine, and they’re not open. Good luck if you ever decide to come here, because they may or may not be open.

Great old theatre. Reminds of of when I was a child. I love the vipe. The building is gorgeous. Bring a sweater, as it can be a little cool inside. They even have an old dog that will help clean up popcorn droppings!

Awesome venue! Love the history… seats r comfy too… plus resident puppy is great greeter… p. s. needs new seat covers on about 6 seats too bad they are seats in best locations (sad face)

Came here to see a movie recently and am sad to report that this place is in disrepair. It is a beautiful theater and a true institution of Encinitas but it is not looked after. It is a real shame this place isn’t in better condition otherwise it would be a real destination

Cute vintage theatre! Came here for the Asian film festival with some friends. I never knew about this old theatre until we came here for the film festival.
It’s an old theatre but the place is cute and unique! The seats are wooden but at least they have a little cushioning so it’s not too bad. There’s also a stage in front of the screen which is good for presentations and events.
The bathroom only has two stalls but it’s not a big theatre so I wasn’t expecting much. At least it’s clean!
Easy to find, right on hwy 101 behind El Callejon. There’s plenty of street parking and also parking in the train station which is only a block away behind the building.
Now I’m curious, what movies do they show normally? I’d like to come check it out again one day.

Logically I should hate this movie theatre:
–Old seats with peeling fabric
–Low slope = short people get screwed by a tall person in front of them.
–Small screen
–Cash Only
–Old Attic/​Basement scent
–Could use a fresh coat of paint.
However, back in the 90s I worked in a movie theater from age 16 – 20, so have a nostalgic admiration for this rundown theater. Its illogical, but I love the old school setup and vintage architecture. I hope it stays in business!

Historic and amazing. If walls good talk this place could talk your ear off till the end of time. Eddie Vedder, George Winston, Mary Pickford, Jackson Brown, Jerry Garcia Band, plus surf/​skate/​ski festivals… Walking in is like stepping into the past. It is a nearly 90yo building, which around here is nearly unheard of, so please judge lightly. We love our beautiful old lady, wrinkles and all.

Great old school theater with beautiful architectural details inside.
The only minor negatives were the film started 15 minutes late. Probably because the concession cashier was likely pulling double duty as the film screen guy. Also the popcorn tasted like the microwave type and not fresh popped.
Thumbs up for the affordable concession food.

I like going here. The theater is old but something about makes it neat to visit. The only complaint is the food. It’s in Encinitas have organic and heathy selection.

It is awesome to think that my mom came here when she was my age! La Paloma still has the same laid-​back and authentic vibe. If you want a fancy movie theater, this is not for you. But if you want a vintage and cozy experience (with the owner’s cute dog walking around during the movie) then this is awesome. I have been here a few times but I just stopped by for a documentary premier which reminded me of the true sense of community that comes with this place.

tonight i finally had the chance to cross the historic and beautiful, La Paloma Theatre, off my list! I’ve lived in Oceanside my entire life and have passed La Paloma many times always planning to return to see a movie. my husband and i decided to make it a date night and see the 100 foot journey. the single screen theatre is cozy and nostalgic with architecture and craftsmanship due reverance, while at the same time somewhat heartbreaking to see in such disrepair. i think those must be the original seats, never restored! the audience was very well mannered, and i loved that everyone clapped at the end of the movie. my experience was pleasant and i hope to be back. it would be wonderful to see some type of fundraising event in the near future to at least upgrade the upholstery.

La Paloma is a wonderful, historic gem.
The funky atmosphere and indie films are just part of the charm of this great theatre.
The staff is friendly and relaxed and make the experience at La Paloma easy and fun.
I’ve only been here a handful of times but I know that I’ll be back for many more. I thoroughly enjoy the easy going attitude of the movie goers and staff and I always have a good time. Not to mention that the sweet dogs that hang around are part of the La Paloma family too, it seems. They’re very friendly and enhance your experience!
The architecture, décor and lighting are a huge plus! They have that great Encinitas vibe and give the theatre tons of character. Great place for a different take on date night! I’d recommend dinner at East Village and then a movie with your sweetheart.
Can’t wait for many more pleasant experiences here!

This is a cool theatre. I can’t give it 5 stars because the owner is a jerk. I asked him if I could have a Exit Through the Gift Shop poster and he walked away and screamed no! I’ve seen the first Girl With The Dragon Tattoo here. I’ve seen other things here, I’ll edit the review if I remember. I hope this theatre still stays, even though the owner isn’t nice.

This place is a historical movie theatre that truly fits San Diego and I hope it stays there forever!!! I’ve seen many surf videos here and love the old school feel to this place. Definitely a fun place to go to and they usually place classic movies at midnight from time to time, ie. the Rocky Horror Picture Show

This is a really cool old looking theater and it has a very nostalgic feel to it.

The architectural features and lighting of this old theater are beautiful. We caught a premier of a new surf film here and the charm of theater added to the experience. We noticed a small dog walking down the aisle and learned from a local its the owners dog. Actually we realized later he has two of them. They didn’t seem to like the movie and just roam the place… every so often you might feel a tail whack your leg as they go down your aisle. Really adds to the charm … this is not owned by a big chain theater.
No idea if you drop some popcorn if they are part of the clean up crew. They were small, cute and not 300 pound dogs so must just be friendly dogs. I wonder if I could bring my golden to the movie, he could keep me warm if it got cold.

What a cool piece of history!
We decided to catch a surf movie here one night, and I was pretty impressed by how well preserved this lil theater is. The interior décor still looks like the way it was several decades ago and maintained its character. The local surfers were all there, and help support the surf community.

A gorgeous theatre in downtown Encinitas, right next to D Street.
I head here on Fridays to watch the Rocky Horror Picture Show at midnight. The place is small, always cold, and the bathrooms are sketchy, but when we’re talking midnight on Fridays, you can’t really have high expectations.
However, if you’re going to see the Crazed Imaginations production of RHPS, this is the place to be. The ambiance is perfect, the cast is amazing, and the performance is always top notch.
This is a great historical building, and some day I’ll head here to see a new movie, like most of its patrons, I suppose, but in the mean time, I wouldn’t want to see Rocky any where else!
