Established in 2012.

R3 Films started out as an audio production company and evolved into the quality video production company it is today. Studying in both Stockholm and London has given the owner, Mike Ortiz, the passion and knowledge for great films, but also an appreciation for all the different avenues where inspiration can be found. R3 Films believes that there are great stories everywhere, they just need to be told.

Mike started at a young age tinkering with both audio equipment and cameras. The natural development of both audio and visuals came as the years passed. Eventually ending up in Stockholm and London to gain a proper education, Mike grew in both knowledge and experience while working in studios and doing field work as an audio engineer. During the end of his education Mike was brought on by several different film production companies and, soon after, took to a liking to being behind the camera. His ambitious attitude and passion for film grew into what is now his full time career.

Mike is amazing! A few years back, he did my promo video. His attention to detail AND his desire to exceed expectations is not of our typical world. Besides that, he is genuinely a nice guy and super easy to be around. Recently, I contacted him with a couple of questions and he was extremely accommodating. Mike gave me great advice even though there was nothing in it for him. I can’t wait until my marketing budget increases so I can hire Mike and would highly recommend him to anyone.

Evoking emotions and storytelling — this is what makes R3 Films stand out. Mike and Sophia have a remarkable combination of technical expertise and artistry that lead to unique and engaging films. From the moment an R3 clip begins, I am pulled in and my attention is fixed. For this reason, my husband and I selected Mike and Sophia to create our family business films.
On a beautiful early Sunday morning, Mike and Sophia met us at the Coronado Ferry Landing to capture video footage of our family. I’m not the most comfortable person in front of a camera, but they both put me at ease. Under their guidance and direction, my self-​consciousness faded, which lead to some amazing footage. Mike and Sophia already had a vision in mind, and my husband and I trusted them to work their magic. They did. And getting an unplanned shot of us on the Ferry while no one else was on it? Yep, they were able to manage that too! It was beyond fun to work with them!
When our two finished clips were done, we were simply blown away! Not only did we have films that we felt truly captured the spirit of our business, but we had incredible footage of our family, including our young son and dog. After hours of filming, how could we possibly allow any of that footage to remain on the cutting room floor? We couldn’t! So, Mike and Sophia created a rough cut of all the footage, set to music. It’s an absolutely priceless treasure which we’ll keep, and watch, and pass on in our family.

5 Stars simply is not enough to rate this team of excellence! I had the pleasure of working with Sofia and Mike to put together a website video for our non-​profit, C3 (
). They put SO MUCH time and effort into the project! I realize they had a huge challenge working with me because most people aren’t as particular as I have been during this process. We had a ton of information to convey about our non-​profit and I’m impressed with what they pulled off. By incorporating both event shots and interviews, were able to get so much across in such a short video. And that’s due to Sofia listening, working with me, being flexible with both the audio and video, and being flexible with the people we interviewed. They are flat out superstars! I want to acknowledge both Sofia and Mike for how amazing they have been to work with! I would recommend these guys to anyone, and I hope to use them again for a future video!

Mike is a top notch videographer. He brought really high-​tech equipment and lights and had everything set up on site quickly. We discussed the story boards and clothing I’d wear in advance. He made the entire filming experience fun and I couldn’t be happier with the results. He edited the video, got my OK; then uploaded it to my YouTube channel. It was a joy working with him and I highly recommend R3 Films. (Not sure whether I can post a link to the video here or not in Unilocal,but if someone out there wants to see it to review his work, just let him know! I’m pretty sure it’s on his site).

I had the pleasure and privilege of working with Mike and Sophia from R3 Films on a few projects, and to say that I was blown away would be an understatement.
The first project I worked with them was a rush job that needed massive amounts of coordination. Mike was able to not only get everything situated, but was able to produce a high quality product as well.
The second project was more planned out, but no less intense. After nearly 7 hours of filming, Mike and Sophia produced 24 teaching videos each 3 minutes in length, plus a few additional videos advertising the product I was creating.
The third project we worked on together was definitely the most fun, but was also the most intense. Mike and Sophia filmed for an entire day, at four separate locations, and produced some of the best quality positional videos I’ve ever seen.
This team is phenomenal and their eye for creativity and quality cannot be beat.
You will not be disappointed in the results!

I recently got an opportunity to see Mike’s work firsthand, and I have to say, I was very impressed with the quality of the videos he created. This is movie grade stuff, the kind of videos you see that have just the right amount of lighting and music in the background that evokes the feeling you’re trying to convey or didn’t even know you could. And it all works incredibly well because Mike has studied how people’s perceptions and attention spans shift, and he incorporates those findings into his work.
And when it comes to sound and music, his talents are diverse. Mike is a trained expert, having gone to school in Sweden for audio production, plus he plays guitar, trumpet, piano, jazz, R&B, hip hop, and reggae.
