San Diego Gas – El Camino Shell

Like a shell gas stations, this is wide. Approx 3 – 4 columns with 2 gas pumps on each aisle. The place is well lit and fairly clean. They have small Convenience store for snacks but i wasn’t able to come in.
The gas pumps are all self service. No whistles and bells in this one. This is the usual shell gas station you come to expect.

Always stopping by here for gas or whatever. Easy to get to. Just a regular gas station that I frequent when I’m in Encinitas. Probably one of the cheaper GOOD gases around.

Today is a 5-​star day for the mechanics at Shell. This morning, a plastic trash bag flew under my car while driving to work. I was able to pull over & remove the bag, but part of it had stuck to a pipe & the plastic was burning as the pipe got hotter (thankfully, nothing got sucked up; it was just on the outside). During my lunch break, I took it over there to see if there was anything they could do to try & scrape off the burnt plastic. They could! I waited about 10 minutes before they took my car onto the lift & then another 10 – 15 while they took the time to remove as much as they could. As far as I can tell, it’s all gone. It looked like burnt marshmallow before and the pipe is clean now. When I asked how much, they said to just tip the mechanic who worked on it. I’m sure there will still be a bit of burnt plastic smell for a day or two, but it should all be gone soon.

Gilbert, the manager and guru auto technician, has taken care of our vehicles for the past 7+ years. He is the most honest mechanic around! Often times I would need to stop in to get explanation on a flashing light, a wiper out of wack or other car related problems and 9 times out of 10, if it’s not too serious, Gil will checks it out and replace for free or for a nominal charge. I would recommend Gil and his team at Shell in a heartbeat. :)

Sorry for the first review to be a bad one but I was a little disappointed as I choose to get my oil change here for being part of the SD gas and car wash reward club which you earn points and discounts. I read you get 10% discount and just figured an oil change shouldn’t be that much as even at the dealer I can get my oil changed for $ 30. Also read it was about 15 min. This place is a little inconvenient also, it’s small and on a corner of a busy intersection. You can wk aves but have to cross over the busy road. Anyway it was about 45 min. They didn’t even notify me my car was done though I sat In front of the shell the whole time and then it was $ 37 no discount. Anyway I won’t be back I can find other places for $ 30 or less easy and faster too.

Honest. Good prices and friendly – could not ask for more. Also free car wash with service.

The mechanic there Gilbert is the most honest guy you will ever meet. He didn’t want to charge me to take a look at my car after he noticed it was a quick fix.

This gas staion sells propane. And I get Ralphs rewards. And the pumps are new. And it’s pretty convenient. And it sells snacks. And I think you can get oil changes here. And it’s competitvely priced. And it’s a gas station so what is there really to say?

Nothing much different about this Shell that sets it apart from others except that it’s close to home and occasionally cheaper than the next closest. Just got my smog certification today at this location without problem. They do sell Propane but it’s hard to get an employee to come out and fill your bottle. Just like everywhere else.

$ 1 for water/​air but free if you ask the attendant

Royal Dutch Shell is pretty well represented throughout Encinitas, and this station isn’t terribly out of whack with the others. You can’t get your car washed or buy 20 varieties of beer like you can at the new one on Leucadia Blvd, but you can get an oil change if you’re so inclined. Gas prices are on par with the median throughout town. The pumps are a little slow, and pump #7 made me visit the cashier to get my last receipt instead of doing me the service of printing it itself, but the clerk was nice.
Through no real fault of the Shell station, which was founded many years ago by Junipero Serra himself, it is a real pain in the hindquarters to get out of the station if you are so unfortunate as to be traveling to the west or the north. The current configuration was probably a-​ok when the intersection consisted of stop signs and El Camino Real didn’t go south so much, but nowadays, waiting at the Rico’s stoplight then waiting again at Encinitas-​ECR is likely to burn five minutes or more. If you find yourself in that situation, allow me to recommend stopping at Rico’s for a frosty Orange Bang to take the sting off of your wait.
Despite these limits on mobility, this Shell station remains a totally adequate place to gas up. From my family to yours, happy refueling.
