Dr. Greg McElroy graduated from California State University Fullerton, then he earned his dental degree at Georgetown University in Washington, DC. As one of San Diego’s leading cosmetic and restorative dentists, Dr. McElroy and his dedicated team at Smiles By Design are committed to being at the forefront of cosmetic dentistry techniques and technology. Dr. McElroy has completed studies at the prestigious Las Vegas Institute for Advanced Dental Studies and studied nation wide with top clinicians such as Dr. Bill Dorfman of ABC’s Extreme Makeover. He is also a certified member and graduate of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation. Dr. McElroy has practiced in San Diego for 20 years and has lived in Encinitas for 15 years.

Wednesday morning– I was flossing my teeth at 7:15 AM when the veneer on my front tooth fell off. I called the Smiles By Design office and left a message. They returned my call at 7:30 AM and wanted to know if I wanted to come over and get it fixed. I was there by 8:30 and out by 9:20 AM. My veneer was securely reapplied and I had a great conversation with «Doc» McElroy. Great staff (and Doc). Great service.

It was my first visit to Dr. McElroy. I received a complete examination and teeth cleaning. A problem that had existed for some time was discovered. The hygienist did a great job. Many extra services were offered. There was not any pressure put on me to buy these services when I refused some of them. Dr. McElroy is my new dentist!

Dr. McElroy and his staff are amazing! I used to be afraid of going to the dentist but everyone at this office was so friendly and comforting that they put me at ease. The office was very nice and everyone working there was professional. The dentistry was pain free and I didn’t feel like I was being told to do more than I needed to which has always been my issue with other dentists. Dr. McElroy made my teeth not only feel great but also made them look pearly white! I am so excited to tell my friends that I have finally found a dentist that I love :)

Beautiful office with friendly staff! Dr. McElroy was recommended by family and sitting in that chair, I finally understood why. Very knowledgeable, great chairside manner, straight to the point and absolutely no upselling! Last but not least, my cleaning I got was one of the best. It was done by Brooke and she is a top notch hygienist. She is very professional, friendly, addresses any concerns you have and knows what she is doing! Brooke is an asset to the office and I know I will be going back in 3 months to have another cleaning from her! Thank you Dr. «Mac», Brooke and Kimberly for the great experience and patient care that is way above standard of care. My entire family will now be patients!!!

This is the best Dentist and office I have ever been to. The staff is very caring and kind. Dr McElroy and Dr Reppas are AWESOME! Shout out the staff too. Brooke, Kimberly and Susan!
They also do there best to work out a payment plan for you if you need it. This is the only place to go if you need a great dental care, state of the art and a gentle touch. I actually dont mind going to the dentist

I’ve been coming here for a few years now and just had to give a shout out to this office and it’s team. I say «team» because it is so apparent that everyone works so perfectly to make this office as professional and warm as it can possibly be! Dr. McElroy, his new associate, all the hygienists, the front desk ladies, Susan, the office manager… everyone is amazing. This office is always participating in continuing education and cares so much for each employee. The employee’s in turn care so much for us, the client because of this. They take our insurance, they are great at what they do and I would not go anywhere else! From the bottled water at the end of your visit to the professionalism and friendliness as you walk through the front door you can’t ask for anything else. Oh… one more thing… they have the best and state of the art equipment which is so important to Dr. McElroy and we get these benefits… Awww the dentist isn’t so bad when you go here!

After being with a dentist for many years, I had to change due to insurance reasons. The first work I needed was a crown and the replacement of an old crown. I was nervous to have so much work done with a new dentist. Dr. McElroy did such a good job I called the office the next day to thank him. Since that visit I have had my teeth cleaned which was just as successful as my first appointment. At the previous office I felt I could imagine what water boarding was like. I did not have that experience with Cary at all. Susi is very helpful. Highly recommend Smiles by Design.

The staff is wonderful, appointments are quick to book when you need it and I truly feel like I’m attended to at every visit. An ever so comfortable office with a warm, genuine and caring staff. Moved to the area 2 years ago and hated the idea of a new dentist/​hygientist. But this office makes you feel like you were part of them forever. If you need major work done, I’m not sure what they use, but pain is at a minimum. For cleanings, you can’t ask for more gentle but thorough work. Needed to speak with Dr. Mc on the way out (and he was clearly in the middle of a patient) but he gave me my answer with patience and a broad smile. Highly reccommend this office!

Today was my first appointment with Dr. McElroy and I couldn’t have been more satisfied. I waited for a very reasonable amount of time and once they brought me back I was given a thoughtful tour of the office. I immediately met numerous members of the staff and then began my exam. Dr. McElroy was very precise with his diagnosis and I felt that I could definitely trust him to carry out my procedure. Therefore I let him begin and needless to say, the entire treatment was painless and as comfortable as possible. I would recommend Dr. McElroy and the Smiles by Design team to anyone. The best doctors office ever. If you want the hospitality and genuine care that is dying away in new generations visit this office! They connect with you personally, on social media and whenever you need anything above and beyond. I recently lost my mother and the office there knows my father and I from visits just like any other client. I received this in the mail today and my jaw dropped. They are the family business values in a corporate world of clients as numbers. I adore their techs, the doctor, the secretaries and everyone. I’ve never left without a smile. Which sounds cheesy.

Dr Mac and his team are great. They provided a doable plan to get my teeth and gums healthy. They worked with me to accomplish things in a budget friendly time frame. Always kept comfort in mind. Brooke is outstanding and so is Susan. They also care about the community and contribute their time.
