Specialties
Take The Lead Canine Training is the offspring of Susan Robertson Dog Training .
My name is Cathy Mayer and after almost ten years of working as Susan’s intern and then lead trainer I had the life changing event of losing my good friend and mentor to cancer in November of 2010 .
She had wanted me to carry on her fun and innovative way of training and I was honored to do so .
I have added a bit of my self to the curriculum and have what I feel is an effective and fun way to help dogs and their owners communicate .
I like to think we specialize in fear and pain free training !
I have embraced the new wave of positive training and have taken any forceful methods out of my training .
I offer Puppy Kindergarten, Beginners Obedience and Canine Good Citizen prep and certification .
I will also come out to your home and do an in Home training session if that fits your schedule and needs better .
I’m a Certified Professional Dog Trainer, also a professional member of both APDT & IACP.

Meet the Business Owner
Cathy M.
Business Owner
I moved to California from Wisconsin (Go badgers ! Cheddar Head until I’m dead !) .
I presently live in San Diego North County with my husband and three labradors .
I worked in the auto industry for too many years and then meet Susan when searching for training for my two new labs .
She asked me to intern for her and thats how it started .
I finally cut the cord with the auto industry in 2007 and have been working on building a name for myself in the dog training field for the last four years .
I own and operate Take The Lead and also volunteer with several rescues, along with taking my dogs to Nursing homes and hospitals.
I can be found at the California Wolf Center in Julian volunteering as well.
