Ara Oghoorian, CFA, CFP® is the founder and president of ACap Asset Management, Inc. Ara has over 20 years of experience in the financial services industry. He began ACap Asset Management, Inc. with a mission to grow, manage, and preserve the wealth of people who work hard to create it.

Prior to starting ACap, Ara Oghoorian worked for a wealth management firm in the Washington, DC area providing investment management, tax preparation/​planning, financial planning, complex risk-​management strategies, and financial advice to ultra high net worth individuals and institutional clients. Ara worked overseas for the US Department of the Treasury as an advisor to the Ministry of Finance and Economy in the Republic of Armenia. He also conducted work in the Republic of Georgia and the Republic of Latvia. He spent nine years at the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco examining foreign and domestic banks and bank holding companies.

Ara Oghoorian earned a Bachelor of Science degree in finance from San Francisco State University, is a Commissioned Bank Examiner through the Federal Reserve Board of Governors, holds both the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation and Certified Financial Planner designation, and holds the Series 65 license.

My wife and I met with Ara and his team at ACap Asset Management. We hired him to prepare a comprehensive financial plan for us. We have a relatively complicated financial picture and are at an age that we wanted to bring a ‘second set of eyes’ to our plan and get some objective input into our status and future. We just finished our review with Ara and his associate Matt. We were very impressed with the detail, care and time he spent with us in reviewing our financial status. Ara and ACAP management have been invaluable in forming a comprehensive financial plan around my S corporation and birth of my son.
I had a very bad experience with a previous accountant/​financial planner who had advice that was ultimately not in my best interest. I found Ara after a search for a fee only adviser. Ara has taken that mess and structured it in a way that makes sense to me and I believe I am now on track with my long term goals.
Ara stands out in his breadth of knowledge and his rapid response in person, via email and phone. His answers to my many questions make sense and and I trust his judgement. I also like knowing that he is personally advising me instead of some firms where there is a group of advisers and you feel like no one is taking ownership of your financial plan. I also like that he is in one place and I am not having to manage meetings around when the person may be in town.

Finally, I have found financial advisors that work for me and put my interests first. ACap doesn’t sell any products, they charge a fee for service, and that is what you get, service: solid and sound advice, accessibility, a real person on the other end of the phone, and someone who knows my family and my financial needs.
Ara and Matt explain everything, they even have this amazing white wall that they draw on to help explain the ins and outs of financial planning to those who may be a little «spreadsheet challenged.» I am so glad to have found them, I highly recommend.

Twenty years ago, I met Ara. He was reading the WSJ… a practice he has had since he was fourteen years old. Aside from already being a seasoned investor and having part-​ownership in commercial real estate at 21, what impressed me most about this on-​top-​of-​his-​stuff guy was his down-​to-​earth nature and truly genuine interest in connecting with people.

I can’t think of a better group of financial advisers. My wife and I have worked with many other financial advisers before, but Ara and his team top them all. Ara checks in with us every quarter. You can reach either him or one of his team members at almost any time of day.

I’ve been with ACap and Ara for 5 years now.
The one thing that drew me to ACap Asset Management was the fact that they are a fee-​only based company. Fee-​only means that they do not get commission on what products they sell to you, which means that they have your best interest at heart by giving you their unbiased advice — which is definitely more comprehensive.
The one thing that kept me with ACap was the service of their staff. Ara, the president of ACap, is extremely knowledgeable and I feel that my success is his number one priority.
