Kaplan Test Prep & Admissions

I signed my daughter up for a PSAT prep course to be held at CLU in Thousand Oaks. After the first week, they canceled that location, but offered a local alternative in Agoura Hills, which my daughter attended. Now they’ve canceled that location too, and expect us to drive to Santa Clarita, which is not a local drive for us (about a 1 hour drive). This is fraud; a form of bait and switch. They advertised local courses, accepted our money, and then canceled the courses after they had already begun and directed us to drive to another location, far away from the one they represented to everyone would be the location of this course. I seriously regret choosing Kaplan and warn other parents to beware of this company.

Good school! Expensive but good.

I have studied for MCAT, Step1 and now I am studying for Step 2ck all through Kaplan. I am a medical student and as all you med students know we have to travel a lot. When I bought the course they told me I could study at any Kaplan center and I have done that until today when I went to this Kaplan center. The lady working there, she might have been the manager, told me I can’t be there, not even to study! I told her that I have been able to use the other Kaplan centers but she still said no, you can not even study here. I even had my own computer and I just wanted some quiet study space. She said no. Really? terrible customer service, very rude. I am disappointed that Kaplan would hire someone like that to work at their center.

I paid for a relative to take an LSAT prep class here a few years back. He showed me his books, which seemed well-​organized, and I liked his instructor when we met.
I am writing this review because he is currently at a top 40 law school and seems very happy about the school he chose, although he is a bit stressed about the job market.
Kaplan must have done something right, because he was able to improve his score by a few crucial points. For those who don’t know, even 5 more points is a huge difference on this test.
I also visited the office several times. They had a couple rooms that seemed like a mix between a college classroom and a small office conference room. Overall, it was a good environment, though not spectacular.
The parting in the back was also more than sufficient, which was always a plus.

Very effective test-​taking strategies. I had started preparing for the GRE on my own and found it difficult to discipline myself into working every day and even when I did, I’d spend too much time on questions I didn’t get and then be burnt out and not want to do more.
The great thing about Kaplan is that you have classes with other people and you learn from you neighbors as well as from the teacher. They give you a calendar of classes and assignments so that you know what should be expected of you in terms of study time and the assignments are doable. I found myself reviewing almost every day and it wasn’t that bad.
Not to be taken for granted are their online resources. You can form study groups with people from your class or do exercises and practice exams after the class is over.
I would suggest that anyone enrolling a Kaplan class take the online access for at least a couple months after the class because it is good to be able to review and digest everything on your own afterwards.
Less expensive online classes are also available.
