Pryor’s Planet

What an absolute atrocious woman. I don’t care how amazing Jennifer is, she left a disgusting message for my family regarding my dog. We are unable to keep her because of our house insurance – but she seems to think we are surrendering our dog because we are bad people. It’s a shame I can’t give zero stars. Rude, nasty. A direct quote «I am only calling you once, and won’t call you again, I am doing you a favor…» From her nasty message. This was her message to my mom after my mom called and left her a message asking for details on her rescue. I don’t care if she’s the dog whisperer, you don’t treat a family trying to find a loving home for a pet they are unable to keep. Disgusting.

We rescued Kiely in March through Pryor’s Planet via a foster mom who had had her for about a month. A small donation was paid but she had all of her shots, had been spayed and she had a microchip. The foster mom checked up on her and even helped us when my father in law, due to health issues could no longer take care of his own dog. Rescue organizations typically screen prospective clients a little more stringently than other avenues for adoption and we had no trouble. We love our girl!

I had walked past their setup at the Studio City Farmer’s market several times and one dog stuck out to me. The Pryor’s planet people had rescued him from a shelter after he was hit by a car and lost his eye. I wasn’t even really thinking of adopting a dog, but after several times of visiting and talking to them I did. It turned out to be a great decision. This was 5 years ago.
Jen and her people were awesome. They took it very seriously and did a home inspection which I appreciated. My dog was well adjusted and very well behaved. I think they took really good care of him while they were fostering him.
There are some reviews talking about the cost– I felt it was very reasonable. My experience was that this was a very professional organization that did things the right way with my dog.
I think they have a really good thing going on and I’d highly recommend them.

We were very happy with the adoption process at Pryor’s Planet. The $ 300 we paid did not begin to cover the veterinary expenses etc. that Pryor’s took on to rescue this little rat terrier mix who was about to be put down at the shelter after he was brought in with a broken pelvis and dislocated hip. They then fostered the dog for 2 years until a suitable home could be found. They are very careful about who they accept and would rather keep a dog than risk a bad placement. So be aware – they have stringent, but very reasonable criteria. Pryor’s Planet is a great place to adopt a pet!

Woahhhh… I really wanted to write this review to speak for the good people of Pryor’s Planet. We adopted our Min Pin Chihuahua puppy from them last year.
I spoke with a few other rescues before Pryor’s Planet, so I can tell you that most make mention of a ‘substantial donation’ for adoption. I mean, any rescue you go through will charge somewhere from $ 200 — $ 250, it’s pretty standard. Way less than a dog store, and when you think about it… non-​profits have a lot of expenses. Aside from admin expenses, they provide dog food to the foster parents (keeping your future dog happy and safe) and they pay for all of the vet visits and neutering of the dogs they foster or have recently found homes for.
Also, they are actually less strict than some other places I spoke with as far as qualifying you for adoption. Our dog’s foster mom met us in the park, then came to our home to drop off the dog at the same time. She took a look around to make sure all was good, and then signed over the papers to us. It wasn’t intrusive, and it really was a small ‘price’ to pay for all of the joy our little dog brings to us.
So in conclusion, any bad communication or experiences that may or may not have happened are unfortunate… but again, this is a non-​profit, not a corporation with a PR department or customer service training. I’m sure everyone working and volunteering are doing their very best to look out for the welfare of these dogs they have cared for. Totally makes sense.
So I’m glad I didn’t let a few bad reviews on here stop me from moving forward with the adoption… All of my experiences with the people working here were fantastic.

I have no idea what these other reviews are talking about. Jen is one of the sweetest, nicest, kindest people I have ever dealt with. I adopted my dog, Grady, from her almost two years ago. The $ 250 paid goes to help with not only the cost of care of my dog, but to also care for and help rescue other dogs as well. Personally, if you complain about the ‘pricey’ fee, I don’t believe that you could even have enough compassion to care for a dog. Vet bills are expensive, dog food is expensive, toys can be expensive. The love of your dog should come above all, which includes financial support. Jen is great, I would definitely adopt another pup from her in the future!

All the reviews on this are absolutely correct — We had a dog on a jobsite that we took care of for three months and then the campus police called the San Bernardino Shelter — we had very limited time to save her so we unfortunately came in contact with Pryors Planet. We were told by several rescues what to expect and that this rescue was anything but normal —- told that the Owner was rude, obnoxious and a little over the edge —- we certainly found this out quickly. One of the co-​workers signed up to become a foster home — she lives in a wonderful home — has a dog of her own and treats her animals so lovingly and spoils them. We all paid our donations and the transporter went to the foster home on a Friday and we were all present to see our little friend. One of the co-​workers inquired about an out of state adoption and within one hour the transporter was snatching the dog and stating that they had found a closer foster in Encino. What ensued on Saturday and Sunday was horrible. This crazied women sent all this nasty lying E-​Mails out stating that we were trying to send the dog off to Azrizona — the foster home was unfit-​the dog was going to be put out in the cold etc. We were mortified to say the least —- after we worked so hard to find a rescue for the dog. Then she stated that she was told that if things didn’t work out we were going to send the dog back to the sheter. Why would we pay to help the dog —- we will never again give money to a rescue and if we have to rescue another animal we will do it ourselves. I may add that the foster home gave 75.00 to the contribution — in all they collected several hundred dollars — personally, I don’t think that they care about the animals — they are in it for the glory and the money. The owner needs help or something. I really wouldn’t even give this one star but you have to —- Beware of Pryors Planet.

non profit? Animal shelter? They treat me like a customer and they treat the dog like a product. I ask about the dog, they require a «substantial donation»…price for the dogs go, 200 for dogs over a year, 250 for dogs under one. I agree, next step goes see the dog, well, apparently all the dogs are at foster homes. I make an appt. A week later see the dog at a park with another family, no pictures. Just see the dog… next is step look at our home make sure it is dog safe afe mother approved next step which I thinkthe most important, see how much additional money can be «donated» this is no way run correctly, I don’t want to discredit their intentions but the facts do it for me.

Actually you were rude and it’s sad that canoli is still up for adoption when she could have got a great home! Its sad that your policy is 28 really?! And for your information we adopted a pitbull mix from a shelter 2 years ago now and she is amazing! My boyfriend and I are responsible young adults both in school and we love dogs! We thought canoli would have been great for us! But your loss! You want to help dogs but have strict rules like you have to be 28? Good luck with that. And to clear things up you did hang up on us. You asked how old he was and once he said 23 you said too young and hung up! So don’t try and say I told him you have to be 28 because you were too RUDE to even say that! Then after you read my review you called my boyfriend like a crazy person asking about the review I wrote and offered us another dog! Really?! I thought you had to be 28?! I hope you call him again because then you will be dealing with me. All you had to do was be respectful and you weren’t.
