History
Established in 2014.
Broken Toy Collective is an art boutique started by artists Jenny Berry and Robert Irving. Originally the idea was to create not just a studio space where we could develop and nurture our creative ideas but also a space where we could brand and sell some of them. It’s unlike anything we’d ever seen before.
The space functions as our working studio as well as a retail store and art gallery. As soon as a piece is finished, whether it’s a painting or a t-shirt, it gets set out front in the store for sale. When people come in and shop and chat with us while we’re working they become part of the process and that’s really important to us.
Having to be at the store regular hours means we’re in our studio working regular hours and that’s good for us as artists. It’s also fun for us to have people stop in and buy things right there while we’re working. Nothing is more encouraging than when someone connects with a piece so much that they want to take it home with them.
