Jeff Jordan Construction

I hired Jeff Jordan and his company to install tile in the entry and main level half bath of my home. We completed the contract for $ 600 to complete the work and I gave Jeff a check for $ 200. I later gave Jeff another check for $ 200 because he was complaining that he needed the additional funds to pay his employees. The remaining balance was $ 200. On January 26, 2007, Jeff and his employees were working on installing the tile. They cut the underlayment for the bathroom floor, with a power saw, directly on my driveway. They cut a rectangular vent cutout into the concrete on my driveway. When Jeff Jordan and his employees left for the day, I went to take a look at the tile. The tile were not level and they were crooked. I also noted that our brand new hickory wood floors were scratched. It appeared that they dragged materials across the floor and walked on the floor with mastic on their shoes. I called Jeff to present these issue to him and he immediately said, «This is an insurance claim issue and instead of me filing a claim, you might as well sue me.» I asked him to try to correct the problem rather than jumping to a lawsuit. His employees came back several days later and re-​laid the crooked tiles. The following week, they came and did most of the grout. Thankfully, since the wood floors were brand new, the A+ Wood Floors came and fixed the fixed the wood floors free of change. What remained to be done was: Laying the remaining tile pieces in the hall bath, finishing the grout in the entry and bathroom, caulking the thresholds in the entry and bathroom, reinstalling the baseboards in the entry and bathroom, and fixing the damaged driveway. I asked Jeff Jordan when this would be completed and he said he wanted to do all of the remaining items in one trip. After over a month and no attempts by Jeff to complete the work, we were tired of not being able to use our main-​level bathroom. I left Jeff a message stating that I wanted this work completed. He did not return my call. I went ahead and finished the tile work, grouted, caulked, and re-​installed the baseboards, so that we could regain the use of our bathroom. Now, the only thing that remains is the damaged driveway. Jeff Jordan said that he would tear out a strip across the driveway and lay in bricks or pavers. Before authorizing him to tear into our driveway, I contacted several concrete contractors to discuss the methods of repair which Jeff proposed. One of the contractors said that the repair would be okay, but would most likely required ongoing maintenance. The other contractors were opposed to the method of repair for the following reasons: Cutting into the driveway will sacrifice the integrity of the concrete on both sides of the cuts, hairline fractures will most likely occur along the cuts, the concrete will deteriorate along the cuts, and the installation of pavers/​bricks which is typically done for aesthetics, is generally done at the same time the concrete is poured. The only unanimous recommendation to put the concrete back to its pre-​damaged state is to replace the driveway. Every contractor said that if only the damaged section is replaced, it will not match the other surrounding sections and therefore it will not look good and it may raise questions from future potential buyers. The only way get get back to our pre-​damaged state, where all of the concrete matches and is undamaged, is to replace the entire driveway. Our driveway was only four years old and was in perfect condition prior to the saw cuts.
In order to try and resolve the issue with the damaged driveway, I tried to negotiate a resolution which would unfortunately leave us in a less than pre-​damaged state. I obtained an estimate to replace just the top two sections of our driveway. As mentioned before, the sections that are replaced will not match the rest of the driveway and therefore will not look as good as a fully matching driveway. All of the contractors said, if only one section were replaced, the driveway would not look good. Replacing the top two sections will look better, but will still not return us to our pre-​damaged condition. We have obtained a bid from A&A Concrete to replace the top two sections of our driveway for $ 900. This is the lowest bid we have received. The bid for our tile job totaled $ 600 and we have paid Jeff Jordan $ 400. The remaining balance of $ 200 was to be paid upon completion of the tile job. Jeff Jordan never finished the tile job and was unwilling to finish the tile job until we reached a resolution on the driveway. I continued trying to resolve this situation by sending e-​mails to Jeff Jordan. Jeff kept dragging things out, saying that he was very busy. Two months later, Jeff quit responding to my e-​mails. I filed a complained with the BBB and they were unable to resolve the issue.

Jeff is an OK contractor. He completely renovated the house that we recently purchased (before we purchased it). He did a pretty good job, and he warrantied all his work, so that when we moved in and found some issues, he came out and fixed them at no charge.
The problem was that it took many calls to get him to come out fix things. He was nice so I didn’t mind the wait, especially since it was free.
And the one instance that I asked him to fix something not under warranty, he charged me double of what I would’ve been charged if I had just called the plumber myself (I knew that because their price was emblazoned on the side of their van!)
We’ve had nothing but problems with the plumbing. They hooked the hot water up to the toilet, the toilet leaked from the tank, water was leaking from the tank to the bowl, the plumbing backed up and had to be rotorooted, and most recently we found a leak (a gallon a minute) from the meter to the house. Some of it he didn’t install, like the line from the meter to the house, but you would think it was something that they would notice. The plumbing was done so poorly in my house that I would never recommend them for any plumbing work.
They did OK on the other things, but I, personally, won’t hire them for anything ever again. They’re overpriced and the quality spotty.
