Massage Envy – Englewood Towne Centre

Scheduled an appointment with ease, but massage was strange. My masseuse was trying to stretch me in ways I couldn’t stretch. She also talked throughout most of the session, which was different. Loved the scalp massage though. Will try again just because it’s so close to home and the BF had a good experience.

Had a deep tissue massage with Destinee. SHE WAS FABULOUS! Very professional, skilled, kind, and listened to my input. I would highly recommend her.

Came here for the first time with my boyfriend after dinner for an hour and a half couples massage.
It was the best hour and a half of my life. The therapists were super professional and gave a great massage. The facility was clean and we didn’t wait long at all to be taken into the room. My bed heater wasn’t turned on, but she turned it on and it warmed up pretty quickly. I would definitely come back here for a massage and facial.

These crooks finally got sued and this lawsuit quickly turned into a class action. If they try to freeze your account and extort money from you by holding on to your credits which you already paid for you are a member to this settlement. See below for details:
You were a member of any Massage Envy Franchise at any time between December 7, 2007, and March 6, 2015, and had at least one unused 50-​minute monthly massage when you cancelled your membership, when you did not renew your membership, or when your membership was terminated for nonpayment («Former Member»); or
* You were a member of any Massage Envy Franchise as of March 6, 2015 («Current Member»).
If you are a Current Member for purposes of the Settlement, meaning you were a member as of March 6, 2015, this means that you have no expired Unutilized Massages and therefore you will not have any massages reinstated in this Settlement. Instead, you automatically receive a total of 60 days from the effective date of membership cancellation, termination for non-​payment, or nonrenewal to redeem any unused massages. Current Members do not need to do anything to receive these benefits.
If you were a member of a Massage Envy Franchise as of March 6, 2015, but you are no longer a member, you are still entitled to Current Member benefits under the Settlement. Specifically, you will have 60 days from final approval of the Settlement to redeem any unused massages you may have.
Judge Sabraw held a Final Approval Hearing on August 14, 2015, to decide whether to approve the Settlement. At this time a ruling has not been made. When information is made available by the United States District Court for the Southern District of California, the Settlement website (
) will be updated with current Settlement information including if final approval is entered.

Popped in for a last minute massage and they were able to take me right away! Stephen was very sweet and accommodating and his massage did the trick! I was surely relaxed. :)

Worst experience I’ve had with Massage Envy :/
I got a couples massage at this Massage Envy last weekend. I reserved a hot stone deep tissue massage for myself, which my masseuse was not informed about and wasn’t qualified to preform. So instead, he put a hot towel on by back for about 5 seconds and then put (I believe) Biofreeze on me which is similar to Icy-​hot to make up for him not being about to preform a hot stone massage. He said this was the best he could do to help loosen muscles in my back. To make up for the confusion I wasn’t charged ($ 12) for the hot towel and the Biofreeze.
I came because I pulled a muscle in my back, I told him I had back pain, he then completely ignored the specific spot I came in to have massaged! Also, only one of my feet were massaged, I was freezing cold and felt improperly draped. My entire back and top of my underwear don’t need to be exposed to massage my arms, right?
In addition to all of this I certainly did not receive a deep tissue massage. I asked him to use more pressure but it literally felt like he was just rubbing up and down my back with the back of his hands. It was weird. And I was happy when it ended.
Also, as a healthcare professional I think someone should review neck anatomy with the massage therapists. I’ve never had my carotid arteries massaged before this day, and doing both at the same time could literally make someone pass out through cutting off circulation or via a vasovagal response — I believe that this is a dangerous practice!
Granted, I realize that part of the reason I was cold is because of the Biofreeze, I get that. I was literally shivering though! Massages are supposed to be relaxing and this felt like an awkward disjointed massage where nothing was done methodically. It was all sort of random.
The following day my back pain was much worse. I was trying to avoid having to take medicine by having a massage — but between my copay for the doctor and cost of muscle relaxers I still spent less than my massage.
This was not the experience I’ve come to know of Massage Envy. I’ve never had these problems with the East Rutherford location, I’ve been to that location 5 times without any problems.
I would not recommend this location to anyone.

HORROR! Horrible! 6 MONTHS trying to cancel! you WILL. Be held hostage with your credit card. Will only ADD more stress than you had before the massage.

I’ve had a lot of massage in my day, but Kimberly at Massage Envy (Englewood) takes the cake. I went through a number of massage therapists until I found her around 8 months into my one year membership. She is very knowledgeable regarding anatomy and physiology and has found knots and trigger points in places that I didn’t even know I had. She’s really helped a lot with many of my sports-​related ailments. If DEEP-​TISSUE massage is what you’re looking for, please go see Kimberly!
(I gave only 4 stars because of the quality of some of the other massage therapists I’ve had at ME Englewood. Kimberly is off the charts.)

Englewood location is GREAT!
1^st few times i called the Paramus Bergen Town Sq location to book my 1^st appointment, people who answered were rude, having other conversations while im on the phone. After trying several times to book an appointment, I decided to try Englewood, not as convenient. As soon a the person answered, she was helpful, accommodating and courteous.
After we picked day/​time, she told me what to expect and to pls. come a few minutes early for paperwork. Surprisingly parking is a lot easier than I thought. Minute i entered the shop, i was greeted, offered a drink and guided through the paper work. She explained all the options, made a suggestion of th masseuse based on my preference of «firmness». place is spotless, organized and on time. Even the other staff, greeted me as they walked by. While the staff is always trying to add on additional products & services, its NOT done in a pushy putting way.
Sounds silly but after paperwork is done they have you spin this wheel to win a free service or special treatment. As a sales professional, I thought this was great.
Each time I have been there i choose someone else just to see who i like the best.
They go out of their way to make it a spa experience!
After a few months there was some confusion with my account, and without me having to ask the manager got on the phone. She was very helpful and was all about resolution!
And for the record… When i got started using Massage Envy I tried at least 5 separate occasions to book appointment in Paramus, but the staff is rude and NOT client driven.
I am very impressed and please with Englewood, their staff, facility and overall vibe in general.
Ask questions, if your not sure about the type of package thats right for you.

It’s a really nice place, very clean and nicely decorated. The massage therapist was very professional, she asked questions to understand my problem areas. The facial was also great, the aesthetician explained every step of the way. The only down side is the front desk reps are snobby and pushy. BEWARE they try to sell you their membership. My husband treated for a day at the spa and they lied to me and told me that he wanted me to sign for one year membership and he’ll pay. When I came home I found out that that was false!!!

I was suckered into purchasing a 12-​month membership with Massage Envy. I figured that ME would be like the Gap of massages. Decent massage at a sorta decent price, right? I was wrong.
First, I stupidly did not realize that the $ 49.99 did not include the taxes/​fees, so I actually paid $ 63.13 a month for my «hour» massage. Second, I also did not realize that my «hour» massage included a 10 minute prep/​consultation time, so each massage only lasted 50 minutes. Including tip, I was basically paying well over $ 70 a month for less than an hour’s worth of massage. Not cool.
However, when I found out these things, I had already signed the year contract, so I went to Massage Envy every month. The only truly good massages I received were from a therapist named Andre; everyone else either lacked the strength to really get into my muscles and/​or did not take direction well.
When my 11^th month approached, I gave them a 30 day notice that I wanted to cancel my membership. Cancelling my membership was easy. All I had to do was pay for the last month, go for my last massage, and I would be done with Massage Envy. Forever.
I was going to give this place three stars, but then my last massage happened. About 10 or 15 minutes into my massage, I noticed that my therapist, a short Hispanic woman, would just place one hand on my leg or my arm, without applying much pressure. After the third time, I finally opened my eyes and guess what I saw? My therapist was texting on her cell phone.
Texting. On her phone. During my massage.
I could not believe it. When I asked her what the heck she was doing, she apologized and explained that I was her last client and she needed to figure out her ride home. I was upset, but I needed the massage, so instead of leaving right then, I told her to get rid of her phone and finish the job. I figured that maybe her massage would be better if she wasn’t texting. I was wrong.
At the end of my massage, she had the audacity to tell me that she gave me an extra ten minutes of massage and hoped that her texting would not affect her tip. That made me so irritated that while my initial plan was to let the texting slide, I decided to tell the receptionist at the desk. The receptionist went into the back area, presumably to talk to the therapist. When she came out, she said that she was «sorry for the confusion» and that it was against Massage Envy policy for their therapists to have cell phones in the massage room.
I said that there wasn’t any confusion — the therapist was texting during my massage. I saw her type with one hand on her phone while she rested her hand on my leg. The receptionist said that she would talk to her manager and that they would call me tomorrow about the situation.
They never called. That being said, even if they had offered a free massage, I wouldn’t have taken it. I am so glad to be done with Massage Envy.
If you want a good massage, you should check out the places in Fort Lee. I received a *two* hour massage for $ 65. And that massage was awesome.

I cannot believe that this place only has one review! I recently had a very poor experience at ANOTHER Massage Envy and I was about to just get a refund (for gift cards) and not use this chain at all because of my horrendous experience at a totally different Massage Envy. On a last minute whim I called up Englewood to see if they could help me– and they came through with flying colors! I spoke with Christine, one of the sweetest customer service associates I’ve ever dealt with. She apologized profusely for the other Clinics errors and even offered to call them for me. She went out of her way to show me what a wonderful business this chain is capable of being and cooled me down when I was angry and upset. I hope the owners of this business know what a little gem they have in this Guest Service Associate– I would never have even gone if not for her!
I came in for a one hour massage not knowing what to expect and still a little hesitant after what I’d been through. Christine was there in person an greeted me and gave me forms to fill out. When I was finished with the paperwork, I gave it back and waited for about two minutes total. The paperwork is a great thing! This avoids a lot of unnecessary talk time with your massage therapist. Basically you write down what you like and what you don’t like, how much pressure would you prefer, do you have any problem areas-​and then that paperwork goes straight to your therapist so you don’t have to waste time talking it out during your massage.
After I gave it back Christine called me and escorted me into what is known as the tranquility room. It’s a very relaxing little room pre-​massage. You sit down in a room filled with soft lighting and gentle soothing sounds, and free tea and water! Here, Christine sat down next to me and explained in detail what I could expect once I entered my massage room. She told me to feel free to tell the massage therapist of any wants during my session. On my paperwork, I had selected medium pressure, but if during the massage I felt I needed more pressure or less pressure, just tell her and she would adjust it. She asked me if I’d like any refreshments and when I declined she wished me a good massage and went back out front.
After this point my masseuse came and got me, a very nice girl named Lidia. She was very gentle and soothed me-​I enjoyed the massage so much I cannot believe I almost missed out on this great experience because of some inadequate customer service skills from THE OTHER place (which I’m writing another review for ;). When I was done Lidia left me to get dressed and when I exited she was waiting for me outside with a cool, refreshing glass of water. It was weird too because I didn’t even realize how thirsty I was until I finished it! Just goes to show they know their stuff! I was so satisfied with the service that I bought a six month package when I was done– six sessions at a discount because it was my first time and I was able to use the remaining balance on my gift card towards the purchase. I literally CANNOT wait until my next massage at Englewood.

I went to Massage Envy because I had a gift certificate. I requested a deep tissue/​sports massage. When I met my therapist, he tried to sell me into buying their package deals. Though I found that annoying, I understood that that was probably standard protocol. After his little spiel, he proceeded to tell me that being a massage therapist is his second career, and that prior he was a medical surgeon in the Russian army. He then found it pertinent for me to know that he had just passed his acupuncture licensing exam and will be able to practice in about two months. After fifteen minutes of this, my massage finally began; I paid for a 60 minute massage. Word to the wise — a 60 minute massage, normally includes about 50 minutes of massage time. He spoke to me for about 15 minutes.
My massage finally began at about 3:15, and he stated that I can fall asleep during the massage if I wanted, which I translated as «we don’t have to speak, and you can have your quiet enjoyable massage in peace.» Unfortunately, I translated poorly. In the first fifteen minutes of my massage, I learned that in the army, he had been shot on three separate occasions. Though, I’m not sure how a medical surgeon would be in the line of fire that often. Pardon my ignorance, if this is a common occurrence. I also learned that his parents live in the U.S., and that his wife wrote them and asked them to help him and his family move to the U.S. so that he would not be shot once again. I didn’t want to be rude, but I tried to keep quiet and hope that he would get the hint and stop chatting and focus on my massage.
My massage got a bit creepy when he started asking me what nationality I am, and then he had the nerve to say, «this is strictly for medical purpose, but how old are you?» Medical purpose my ass. After I rolled my eyes and told him my age, he replied and said, «you look like you’re 22. Guess how old I am.» WTF I, honestly, felt extremely uncomfortable at this point, and contemplated asking him to stop the massage. I responded to his question, and told him I didn’t know how old he is and that his age was an extraneous piece of information that I did not need. After my candid response, there was finally quiet in the room.
As for the quality of my massage, I asked him to focus on my shoulders and IT band, and he did a full body massage that barely focused on any of the areas that I’d requested. I understand at that point the time was limited, but a seasoned massage therapist understands time management. He stated he’d been practicing for 14 years.
I receive massages several times a year, and so I know what to expect from your typical massage. I can’t speak for all of the therapists at Massage Envy in Englewood, NJ, but I can say that Edward, the Russian massage therapist, can use a bit more training on etiquette and time management. My boyfriend received a massage as well from a Latin woman who he also requested a very strong deep tissue massage. He asked her to focus on his quads and hamstrings. She gave a light relaxation massage and did barely touched upon his thighs.
Unfortunately, I still have money on my gift certificate. I will not be using it at Massage Envy in Englewood, NJ.

The owners are so friendly and helpful, and the staff is top-​notch. :-) Will go back again and again!
