History

Byte Support Inc. was formed in 1987 as a computer reseller specializing in leasing hardware to schools and medical institutions. In 1992 we opened a retail storefront in Erdenheim, PA (just north of Philadelphia) and broadened our market focus in include small business and home computer users. In 1996, after having tried several commercial Internet services such as AOL, Compuserve and Netcom (and being unhappy with all of them), we decided to create our own Internet Service Provider — an Navpoint Internet was born.

In August of 1996 we started to sign up our first customers — some of which are still with us today. Our initial focus was on providing the most reliable and highest performing dial up service available. We were the first Internet Service Provider in the Philadelphia are to deploy the X2 56K technology. In 1997, the Philadelphia Inquirer published a feature article on Navpoint Internet and our successful adoption of this new technology.
