Andy is awesome. Don’t be afraid of the «barber shop» name if you have longer or curlier hair like me. Andy can do way more than a military buzz cut. In addition to being the best haircut you’ve ever gotten it will probably be the fastest too. He’s friendly, but also extremely professional. I can tell he really cares about making his customers happy. Tip for first timers: while he still accepts walk-​ins he’s gotten so popular that he’s started a quasi-​appointment system called «the list.» Call ahead to get your name down and he’ll let you know when to show up.

Old school traditional barber shop feel. Andy and his wife are the most polite down to earth people you could meet in Escondido. Free snacks and drinks while you wait. And even if there are 4 or 5 people in front of you. They have your appointment time down to the minute!

If you are looking for the old school barber shop and a great haircut, this is your place. Andy is very nice and super skilled. No hip hop music blasting, just 50’s memorabilia on the walls and oldies playing softly. I will be back!

Never noticed this spot but had a friend suggest it. I am a fan! Andy is great, and I havent had that good of a haircut in a long time. He gets it done quick, and even offers a drink. Not going anywhere else from now on.

Friendly owners, and a great haircut. Fun decorations too. It’s a bit of a drive for me, but will try to arrange haircuts when I’ll be in the area.

I posted my 5 star review 10 months ago when we moved to Escondido and 10 months later we are still Andys barbershop enthusiasts. This is an amazing shop with exceptional skill and customer service, one visit and you will be a permanent customer.

When I came to Escondido I needed to find a new barber. I went to Andy’s shop and was instantly sold. It’s everything a barber shop should be. Tons of magazines, awesome 1940’s — 1950’s décor, free snacks, a parrot outside, and a great haircut. Been going there for six months now. The haircut is always spot on. I don’t plan on going anywhere else.

This is a great little local Barber Shop, very busy place and was able to squeeze me in so I could still make it to a wedding. Very cool inside with sports & hats all over the walls and ceiling. Free coffee & drinks while you wait. Very good spot.

First time at this place and I love it alteady. I called and asked what the wait time was. I was told I can come at 1:27… so I showed up at that time and sure enough I was seen at that time! Another barber butchered my hair but andy saved me and now I’m off to a new start. I think I found my barber.

Local, reasonable, personable, great atmosphere, great haircuts. It dosen’t get any better than this! You can even call ahead and reserve your chair down to the minute!

When my previous barber left the area, I had to find a new one. I started going to a lady on Grand (Bev) who got me in the door by having a great dog (Charlie, a full size poodle) and did a great job.
When I was told she was retiring, she suggested Andy (her son, as it turned out) and he has just been FANTASTIC! The free sodas are a nice touch, the décor is fascinating, the service is excellent, and with his «List» scheduling, planning becomes easy and a no-​stress event.
Reasonable pricing, good music and things to read while you wait round out the experience. This is an example of what a barber shop should be, old-​fashioned service (you don’t find it like this much anymore) married to modern day convenience in scheduling the creates an excellent experience.
The best touch? Andy gives you a heads up about any time he won’t be around by email so you can make sure you look good anytime.
You can’t go wrong by making the call to get on The List the next time you need a haircut, you be glad you did!

Dont go this place if you are expecting or wanting a salon style haircut, think texture and layers, go see Andy if you want a consistently high quality good haircut.
That said Andy is the only place i have found that has been able to give me the haircut that i want and the only place that has managed to give me a haircut that has met or exceeded my expectations each time.
Also he has given it to me straight and honest on what would look good and what wouldn’t and he has yet to steer me wrong. I trust him with my hair, which is not an easy thing to say.
Last, would and will recommend Andy to any that is looking for a consistent high quality no frills haircut.

Granted I don’t write many reviews, this one is 2 years in the making, and well deserved.
Andy and his wife Chemene have redefined the traditional barber shop experience into a more sophisticated, quality centric product. With Andy I can bank on a great haircut accompanied with top-​notch service. I’m also at ease knowing that I can call in-​advance and secure my spot on «the list.»
Prior to seeing Andy I was shuffling between hair salon’s & barbershops, but I couldn’t find the total package. For anyone stuck in a rut with your current spot, I would suggest a trip to Andy’s.

Found this shop on Unilocal,and Andy cuts hair well. This is a no nonsense barbershop, and I mean that nicely. If you want a quick, nice haircut come on down. I didn’t give it 5 stars because, in my opinion, the shop could use a little up dating. I understand the aesthetic that they are going for which is 50s, 60s Americana, and I think that’s cool, for example, barber’s chairs look the era which is a nice touch, but some of the décor looks old, and not in a good way. I’m not trying to be rude just give you honest feedback. In my opinion, every business, even very successful ones need feedback so that they can improve their service or product. With that being said, I would definitely recommend this barbershop.

i’m really torn on this one, if I was to rate the experience of meeting Andy and his wife I would have to give it a 5 out of 5, but the haircut I got was more like a three out of five. Andy seems like a very easy going guy, friendly yet not big on conversation, then again, I am there for a haircut. His wife is the spark in the room, she keeps things moving along and is happy to explain any of the unusual décor in the small barber shop. Andy’s barber shop is unique, from the hat collection pinned to the ceiling and the bottled beer collection on the wall, to the license plates and the glass case full of Star Wars collectibles (yep, for sale). Oh did I forget the giant parrot outside? Yeah, he has one of those too.
The atmosphere inside is cordial and friendly from the moment you enter, Andy’s wife checks you in on the list (not recommended to just walk in to this spot, Andy is booked pretty tight and his wife makes sure the machine keeps running smoothly). There will likely be one guy in the chair and another one or two waiting.
After a short wait, it was my turn in the front chair (there are two other barber chairs, but Andy is the only barber so the others are for hanging out in). I asked for a short, but not military looking haircut. Andy with razor in hand went deep on my sides right off the bat. He never picked up his scissors during my entire cut and I was in and out of the chair in under 6 minutes. I have curly hair and have never gotten a good cut from a barber who only uses the electric razor on me, Andy’s cut keeps my record intact. Maybe in a few weeks Andy’s fast work will turn into a great cut (at which time I will happily change my rating), but as I left his shop, I felt I should turn right and head back to Pendleton. I really like Andy and his wife and the atmosphere they have created, but I won’t be back for a haircut from him. C’est la vie.

There’s something magical about walking into Andy’s Barbershop. It’s like when you see a movie and there’s a barbershop scene where everyone in the shop is stereo typically shootin’ the shit, enjoying each other’s company. It’s honestly just like that. Everything about the experience hearkens back to a time when pinup girls, pompadours, and James Dean were all the rage. It’s a throwback to the 50’s/60’s and you could spend hours checking out all the memorabilia that lines the walls.
Andy is a class act, servicing the good people of Escondido for 23 years! One of the things that really stood out for me was that even with a decent lineup of 5 or 6 people waiting, he can calculate the approximate time when he’ll be ready to service you. After you sign in, he asks you to jot down this time. That to me is a sign that this man knows he’s not here to waste your time.
Andy provides complimentary snacks, water, soda, coffee and WiFi. The man FEEDS YOU during your wait. FOR FREE.
Because this is a one man operation, the wait is long. I had to wait almost 50 minutes on a Monday during my lunch break, which is not a problem considering the amount of entertainment in the shop and that it’s located on Grand Ave, where you can spend your waiting time running errands, browsing the local shops or grabbing a bite. But believe me when I say that IT’S COMPLETELY WORTH THE WAIT. Andy moves with surgeon like precision when he cuts your hair, minimizing any unnecessary movement and maximizing the amount of hair trimmed. What you end up with, is the best haircut you’ll every have.
He does Walk-​ins and appointments. Recently, he’s been offering what I call «Phoned in Walk-​ins». Not really an appointment and not really a walk-​in. When you call, he’ll give you a time when to show up and he’ll be ready.
Andy has made me a believer and from now on, I’ll be coming to him every month for my regular trim!

First time at a real barber shop in 40 years. First time at Andy’s. I was a little nervous. Parking is available behind the shop off the alley or the public parking on the side street.
Andy welcomed me and mentioned the snacks and drinks available. I was there at a really busy time, but fortunately for me, most of the clients before me did not have much hair to cut. Just saying… :)
Andy did a great and fast job, not rushed, but efficient. He seems a nice guy and welcomed me to the neighborhood. I noted he seemed to know everyone else in the shop on a first name basis, I felt I was at Floyd’s in Mayberry RFD.
