John is truly a breath of fresh air. I hired him to install a new backyard at my brother’s home in Escondido. The yard we started with was awful. It was basically what was left of an old dead lawn, dirt and mud, old overgrown shrubs that needed to be removed, and an old chain link fence. The yard now is private, gorgeous, and completely unrecognizable. My very particular brother in law’s comment when he saw the new yard was «it’s smokin!» After interviewing several local landscapers, I felt the most comfortable with John. I saw right away that he has extensive experience, a really good eye for design and plant selection, and his demeanor is outstanding. His bid was very fair, and he helped me with ideas to work within budget. He also made great suggestions, listened to my ideas, and accommodated several requests I made during the installation. Since I was not able to be present on a daily basis during the job, It was extremely important to me to hire someone reliable, who I could trust to make sure things were done well. I was definitely not disappointed. John’s team showed up every day as promised, worked diligently, cleaned up daily, and the entire yard was finished on time. John even went out of his way to help us find a pet enclosure for one section of the yard, and installed it professionally for us. He also suggested installing some accent lighting which looks fantastic and I’m so glad we added it. My brother and I could not be more pleased with the process and the result, and I would highly recommend John Douglas Landscaping.

John and his team did a wonderful job on our yard and just as importantly, they were a pleasure to work with. We started with a dirt yard and ended up with our dream yard thanks to John and his team.
When we first met with John we had a general plan but he helped us figure out all of the little and big details and gave us really good guidance based on his extensive professional perspective. We felt comfortable trusting him and his experience.
He definitely knows how to figure out how to make the most out of a yard from patio size to plant selection.
John was also very accommodating if we changed our minds about something or had different ideas we wanted to implement.
A few of our neighbors are also landscaping their yard and John and his team started later and finished well before them without cutting corners.

When my husband and I decided to do a backyard makeover, we had no idea what we were doing. We met with 4 different landscaping companies and thank goodness one of those companies was John A Douglas. The choosing of a company to work with was a long drawn out process in it self, taking about a month. 2 companies were recommended by friends, one company sent me an advertisement and Johns company was recommended by another company I had contacted but were no longer here in San Diego. After many meetings, plans and quotes with all 4 companies, we finally went with John. The basic reason we chose John was how genuine he was. He was so calm and he listened to every idea we had. He never pressured us or made us feel like an inconvenience for taking up his time. He built on our ideas and came up with a beautiful plan that totally screamed us! In fact, he was the only one out of the 4 companies that heard everything we said and incorporated it all into the plan. I am so glad we chose John because his genuine, calm nature came in handy with my many phone calls, texts, questions and changes we made throughout the process. It was a long process, as you can see by our pictures it was a complete makeover front and back. John always listened and came up with ideas when I wanted to change things up. His crew was friendly and worked hard creating a magical retreat. We went with artificial turf and even though its a little more expensive than real grass, we couldn’t be happier. It is fabulous and we will never put in real grass again. If you saw my pictures you see I have 2 gigantic dogs and they love the turf. It is easy to keep clean and we have never had problems with any doggie odor. I had big dreams and big expectations and John made them all come true. My bar, kitchen and barbecue area is the biggest one I have ever seen. It is beyond my wildest dreams and even has a fire pit in the middle of the bar that I asked for. Such Ambiance. The water feature was added in at the end of our design and I am so glad we put it in. It is now the central focal point of our yard. I cannot say enough good things about John, I feel he was a God send. I would never hire anyone but John to do any landscaping and my family and friends feel the same way. I highly, highly recommend John A Douglas for all your landscaping needs but be careful. He makes your yard such a paradise everyone wants to come over and never leave. John and his team did an awesome job! My front lawn went from the worst in the neighborhood to the greenest! Best of all its synthetic so no more watering or mowing the yard! John had replaced the turf in my backyard 2 years ago and it still looks awesome even with two big dogs running around on it everyday! I highly recommend John for landscaping!

I own a house in San Marcos and I hadn’t met someone comfortable with or who I could trust until I met John Douglas to do my landscaping. My backyard was a disaster and was in need of professional help. I envisioned my own outdoor paradise and what he delivered was beyond my expectations. I now have a beautiful outdoor kitchen, beautiful paver stone patio, and a small artificial turf area for my pets. He did an incredible job on the outdoor lighting and I couldn’t be happier with the results. And the plus to all of this is that John was very responsive to all my questions, kept me involved in the whole process and is reasonably priced. If you have a backyard to work on this is the man to call.

John needs a Unilocal review as it is where I usually come for reviews and I hadn’t seen one yet. John is just what we were looking for in a landscaper for our back yard project. We talked to several companies and got a few quotes via Unilocal,but weren’t finding the service we were hoping for. We found John through some friends who used him, and not only was his estimate very fair, he was always quick to get back to us on our questions, was enthusiastic about working with us, and went the extra distance throughout the whole process. The customer service blew us away. We asked if it was possible to complete the project before the 4^th of July, No problem, sent the guys out the very next day to start early. Wasn’t sure if we liked one of the trees after the job was complete, no problem, was replaced the next day. His workers were so fast and efficient, and John came out on occasion to oversee everything. It is always a little stressful to drop a large amount of money on something you don’t get to see until the end and have to trust the person doing the work, but we couldn’t be happier with the outcome, we are outside every day now all summer.
