Merry Maids

My husband fell and hurt himself so I decided to get a service to help me out while I helped him. What a mistake! First cleaning was sub par, and I asked for a different group. Second time better but still not great. I’m really not that picky! When I asked for another team they came and again surprise… still not great. I told them to change it to once a month since twice a week was not worth it! Got a call back from the manager and was told that even though the contract stated I could change it, they wanted to charge be a termination fee! I had it. Asked to cancel and ate the $ 260 cancellation fee.
Guess who showed up today to clean… really?!!

By far the worst service I have ever TRIED to use. Made apt for Monday, before Thanksgiving, for 10am. I scheduled to have my dog at the groomers at the same time so he would be out of the way as well! They have called 3 times to change apt time. First just to 12pm. That was ok. Then they called again, and said 230pm. I asked to speak to a manager. They said they had never called the first time and this was their first attempt to change the apt!!! I know I’m not going crazy, but I want my house clean. So ok, come at 230! I received another call to change the apt time without an explanation or a care about how this is affecting my schedule. Once again, spoke to the Carlsbad CA mgr. and she did not care at all that I canceled, and couldn’t understand that I had been waiting and expecting them since 10am that morning. Thought the 5pm apt now should work just fine! No thanks!!! You lost another customer!!! Terrible service and horrible customer service!!!

I felt that I was totally ripped off by this company. Their advertisement sounded promising. I hired them for a deep cleaning of my condo. They charged me $ 400 for 2 people at $ 52/​hour per person. After 4 hours of cleaning, everything was still dirty. Grease on the stove was not even touched. Food particle in the refrigerator still present. Floor was not even mopped, window sills were not vacuumed. Backside of toilet seat was still dirty. What were they doing for 4 hours?! They gave me some discount for not cleaning. But discount did not justify either the quality of their work nor the waste of my time. What a rip off! I will not ever hire them again.

EDIT TO THIS POST: also missing — an outfit, medication on top of the $ 600. I didn’t want to give ANY stars for this. Kristy is a fake. She told me she came out to inspect after the first cleaning, but apparently she didn’t think dusting and cleaning kitchen counters were important. The fist cleaning was so crappy — the kitchen counters were not even cleaned. Then come to find out they stole $ 600 from a drawer in the kitchen when there policy is to not even open any drawers. Well they shoved all our mail into one of the kitchen drawers. They take no responsibility. The allow there employees to be dishonest and thieves because they know they can get away with it.. The money had been in there for 2 days before their first visit and then gone. They gave me speeches about how this hasn’t happened in 25 years and blah blah. Kristy kept accusing me of having not looked hard enough for it or for having lost our house key. Poor ass customer service, but I guess that’s what you get when you have idiots come to clean your house. BULLSHIT. Do not hire this company. They are dishonest and shitty people who do shitty cleaning. I will be broadcasting how terrible and dishonest they are to everyone I can. Especially the manager. How can you argue how $ 600 is missing when no one else had access to the house but my husband and my 5 year old. Oh wait. Maybe the chihuahua ate it.

So we decided to hire someone to come and clean our house before the holidays. Our wedding was the week before Thanksgiving and we have a ton of family coming and staying for Thanksgiving and we were just running out of time to clean. The initial consult was good, the lady was on time and gave me a good estimate. I felt very confident with her. So a few days later I made my appointment and stated I wouldn’t be home until after 1p so I could have them come any time after– which they confirmed they would. I first got a call confirming an appointment for the wrong day and I called to tell them that wasn’t for me and they actually considered charging me for the appointment (even though our paperwork wasn’t signed yet). And the days leading up to the appointment, they called and confirmed a 10am cleaning. So again I had to call back and tell them I wasn’t going to be home and I was told when I made the appointment that they would come after 1p. It seemed like such an issue but I had an email confirmation so they couldn’t say much against me.
Day of: Once the cleaning ladies came, 2 ladies came and they seemed nice. I stayed upstairs most of the time to be out of their way. Once they were done, I came down and was asked to inspect for satisfaction. I pointed out a few places on the floors that didn’t seem clean and even when they left, it still wasn’t done well. They then showed me a sterling silver picture frame they broke while cleaning. They said they needed to take it to show their boss for reimbursement but I took out our personal picture from it. About 5 business days later, I called to see the status of my frame and they said they had no idea. I explained the situation and finally spoke to a supervisor. She offered me $ 5 for the frame. I had to reiterate that the frame was sterling silver and worth far more than $ 5– and her maids kept the frame so to ask them for it to see it’s quality. I also pointed out that they broke the lock on our sliding screen door (which we had just replaced). A few days later, I got a call that they would give me $ 20 for the frame and $ 15 for the lock but we had to go out, buy it ourselves and install it ourselves– final offer. Sorry, but you broke it, you should be responsible enough to come and fix it.
Now I just called again to get a quote for a move out clean (basic). I told them the house would be empty and I just need a basic cleaning. They quoted me the same price stating «it would be a deeper clean». I asked what would be do different because last time, they wiped down appliances, vacuumed couches, did the window sills, etc. She said they would do the sills, baseboards, door frames, and inside the oven. So basically almost everything they did last time, not including furniture. I named other companies that are cheaper in the area (big names) and that they offer a move out special seeing there is not furniture to worry about– but she said that’s what they charge. Guess I won’t be using them and their overpriced cleaning anymore.

Work and school often gets in the way of deep cleaning a house so we called Merry Maids to help keep our busy family sane. We are definitely happy with Merry Maids’ customer service and commitment to customer satisfaction. Most of the cleaning crews do a pretty good job of cleaning, however if they miss something, the company is very prompt to make things right. Service Manager Kristy is a pleasure to work with and she personally ensures that the customer is satisfied. After trying out a couple of crews and finding their work to be «just okay», we discovered Michele and Carly today, wow what a difference the right team makes! These two ladies rock! They are incredibly diligent, work extremely hard, pay attention to detail, are very enthusiastic and truly show a sense of pride in the work that they do. That they are happy, enjoy their work and enjoy working together as a team, are added bonuses. Definitely call Merry Maids to help with your cleaning needs. Quality time with family in a nice clean home is well worth the money spent.

We have used Merry Maids for over a year now and have been supremely pleased with the service provided. We selected a customized cleaning to meet our budget and have continued with the service even past our contracted end date. Rosalia and Kenia are our fantastic crew. Always on time and always attentive to any specific requests. We would highly recommend them to anyone!

Used Merry Maids once for a construction clean up, and the job was fairly well done, albeit, everything was brand new in the house, so it was a matter of wiping down dust and construction debris. I would rate the results average.
However, I hired Merry Maids about a week later to clean a rental property for a tenant move in. A «deep cleaning» was requested — wiping down all windows, door jambs, walls, doors, cleaning vents, appliances, baseboards, etc. The crew completed the job and upon my inspection, half of the cleaning was not done. Since I had tenants moving in the next day, I had to spend 3 hours cleaning everything they had missed on a Friday night — there was still dust and grime in the vents — clearly they had not been cleaned. All the doors and door jambs, baseboards had dust and grime on them. There was sticky stuff on the floors and walls in the kitchen. The bathrooms were inadequately cleaned. I called Merry Maids the next day and explained the situation and they agreed to credit me back about $ 100 toward the original cleaning fee. This was over a month ago and I have yet to see credit on my account. I called back once after a week of not seeing the credit and they told me they had mistakenly credited my cleaning account. Since I was not planning to use them again, I asked for the charge to be removed from my credit card on file. They said they would fix it. Another two weeks go by and no credit showing. I called again and have yet to see the credit… I would go with another company or an independent contractor in the future. Merry Maids is a rip off.

My husband and I just married in June and moved out to Oceanside, California for his job. We found the cutest condo online and knew that is where we wanted to live.
Our landlord thought it would be a good idea to hire Merry Maids to come in and do a final cleaning before he carried me across the threshold.
We were disappointed when we walked into the condo and found it looking exactly the same as when we looked at it a few days prior.
We called our landlord and explained our concern.
Let me give them one compliment and say that one great thing about Merry Maids is that if you are unsatisfied, they will come back and clean at no charge.
My husband and I called and set up an appointment. We had sent a list to Merry Maids prior with things that needed to be cleaned. Even though we sent the list, our cleaning lady had to ask what tasks needed to be complete.
Once 45 minutes went by, she asked if she was done and we told her that there were a few more things to be cleaned before she left. She became agitated and called her boss where she started speaking in spanish about how we told her to clean the grout in the kitchen tiles and that the job was too big for her and would take at least two hours. My husband and I called our landlord and found out that she had hired Merry Maids until the jobs were done.
I watched as the cleaning lady scrubbed the grout and after her asking me three times if she was done and me pointing out areas she missed, I think she figured out that although I am only 25 years-​old, I know what a clean house is supposed to look like.
I also have to agree with Rebecca H’s review about not taking care of floors, carpet and antique furniture. The cleaning lady just sprayed her cleaning products wherever she felt like, left her dirty cleaning rags on antique furniture and didn’t care that her knee pads had chemicals on them and proceeded to kneel on the carpet.
Even though I was not satisfied, I told her that it looked better than it did before and she proceeded to say that she didn’t think so!
I wanted to tell her to get on her hands and knees and keep scrubbing, but I was so mad that I just told her thank you and that her work was done.
My mom has taught me the importance and value of what a clean home should look like and it’s unfortunate that Merry Maids doesn’t teach the same beliefs to their cleaning ladies.

My experience with this company was decidedly un-​merry. While their scheduling service was excellent (they called me back immediately, arrived on time, etc), the cleaning job they did was only so-​so and, worst of all, they ignored our instructions — we told them NOT TO TOUCH the newly refinished hardwood floors, but the cleaners dragged their vaccums across them and left behind some not-​so lovely scratches in the pristine floor. They then denied that they did this, even though my husband was home and saw them doing it.
If you want an «okay» cleaning done at a premium price, use this company. Otherwise, look elsewhere — I certainly will.

I moved out of my condo into my first home over the Thanksgiving holiday — the move was quick — and the condo was pretty messy when I left. I went to check it out after they cleaned — and was not impressed. Left a bag of garbage — didn’t do the blinds (which I asked for), missed the oven door, shower doors, and a few other things. SO now I am losing some of my deposit and paid a bunch of money for half *$* job. Will not use again. Overpriced for quality of clean.
