Orfila Vineyards & Winery

Favorite winery by far! We are apart of their wine club so we get our wine every few months. We even make a trip between that because we go through their wine faster! The staff is friendly and I love their different events that they hold! We went to the grape stomp and that was a blast!

I wasn’t that impressed by this winery. I’ve been to a few others in the area and liked them a lot more. I’ve also been to quite a few in Italy so that doesn’t help their cause.
Pro’s:
It’s right off a highway so it’s convenient to get to.
They have a food truck on the weekends (including Friday)
The wine tasting is cheap and you get to try 6 wines (we bought a Groupon)
The view into the mountains was beautiful
There was live music
Cons:
Since it’s off the highway, that means everyone else can easily get to it as well.
It felt commercialized.
The wine wasn’t that great (OK…but not worth buying a bottle)
It doesn’t seem personalized. We had to pry information out of the server about the wines and the business and he was just on to the next customer after. Woo me!
Overall, it’s not a terrible place but there are a lot of other wineries in the area that serve better wine and provide more of an experience (check out Bernardo or Cordiano!)

LOVELY place! Spent it with my cousins and was given a educational tour on their wine making skills. Became very educated on my white wines! However, their cheese tasting — lacks. It’s a gentleman who sells cheese balls at the side door. But they do have cheese, chocolate, crackers, and other items you can purchase for a hefty price. Cute little «home» store inside as well.

A winery in North County?! Sweet!
My friend ended up taking me here since he knew I loved wine and because he & his roommate are members. Now, I’ve been to some wineries and not all wines are good. Here, however, I didn’t try one that I wouldn’t like a whole glass of!
The place reminds me of a brewery but more wine style as there’s a warehouse that serves wine tastings as you come, and outside you can sit overlooking the vineyards and we came on a night they had tunes. The crowd was a bit older and vibe more romantic, but perhaps that’s because we came after 5 and it got dark super quick.
They had a food truck which was nice, and we gotta try 6 wines. I had the sequestered Pinot Noir which was fruity and delish, as I tried the a Lotus, Syrah and the Moscato– which was my fave!
I’ll have to be back. Oh, and I got to keep a wine glass. Pretty sweet souvenir if ya ask me

We went to the one in Escondido and did the free wine tour (12 pm everyday) our guide was Doug and he was amazing!!! He was very knowledgeable about the wine, the history, and overall a cool and funny guy. He also was the one that helped us pick our tasting wines and they were all amazing! (Btw we did a Groupon — $ 12 for 2 people and 6 tasting wines each)
The staff is very nice and it was super beautiful. We came on a Thursday so there was very few people there which was nice.

Absolutely loved it here! We got a Groupon for wine tasting and while most places only offer 3 samples, they offer 6 here! The atmosphere is very fun with both outdoor and indoor conversation areas. Outdoor has cute lighting with a live band (not sure if that’s only Saturday’s). The wine was great, the staff was very friendly, and the prices were reasonable. I’ll definitely be back!

We were at the Julian tasting room on Christmas Eve picking out a wine to bring to my boss and had the best time. Susan convinced us to join the wine club and I don’t regret it one bit– We live 10 minutes from the Escondido location!
So, being OWL members, we ventured over to their vineyard. It’s not hard to find, there is ample amount of parking and all of the bartenders we’ve experienced have been beyond friendly. What more can you ask for? Oh, well they also have a huge fridge full of an array of cheeses, meats and a separate, yet equally as large selection of crackers/​chips/​munchies. The grounds have lots of tables and chairs, places for a picnic and also offer events– live music, food trucks. Could you ask for more? As an OWL club member you get a free tasting, 6 tastes or a glass of wine, for yourself and 3 guests every single day of the year (minus the days the winery is closed). Great selection of red and whites!
I foresee many date nights here in the future. Open until 7:00pm.

Fun time. It was rainy day so we decided to visit the winery. No outside tour but we were able to get a brief introduction to the winery. We tasted 6 flights. The wine was ok though the port was quite good.
The general manager, Justin, was a great host. He spent a lot of time with us and we really enjoyed meeting him. I think he especially enjoyed my pretty daughters! Cool spot and worth the visit.

I love this place. Orfila is a quaint spot and a great place to relax in Escondido.
I’ve been here twice for Groupon deal wine tastings with my family. For $ 12 you can get six wine tastings and a souvenir log tasting glass — and that’s without the Groupon price. I was able to redeem my Groupon for Four tastings even though we were only a party of three people, and they credited $ 5 towards any purchase in the tasting room. We opted for the decently priced cheese and crackers, which came out to be a total of $ 11 with the five dollar subtraction.
The Orfila staff is always so welcoming and eager to educate about their local fine wines. Never have I felt uncomfortable asking for a pour. They are not snooty wine people at all, woohoo! Sidenote: daily free tours are offered at noon.
Orfila is a great way to spend a balmy Escondido afternoon — a definite recommendation!

Love this place. Escondido little hidden gem! Tastings are always great and you can always find groupons available. Once you find a wine you like bottles are the way to go.
The patio area is great and lots of great seating. You can even bring your own food go Pair with your wine. Sometimes they will have food trucks on Fridays and you are not permitted outside foods. The cheese selection in the refrigeratorated section is great and little meats to pair as well. Large variety of crackers too, my favorite is the la panazaella roasted garlic crackers are the best!
Staff is great and definitely a place I love to frequent. Oh and also family friendly. There is a large picnic area opposite side of patio!

For now i’ll give them 3 stars because we just drove in, parked and walked around the vineyard, taking photos and enjoyed the serenity/​views that the area has to offer. This is all good stuff, but not having tasted any wine, or experienced the service it’s hard to quantify more.
Will update once we get a chance to experience Orfila in it’s entirety.

My friends and I came here on a whim after visiting a few breweries up in Vista… we thought, we’re already on a roll, so let’s continue the festivities with more imbibing! :D We were possessed to go to a winery though so we kept it classy and strolled right in having purchased the Groupon for a 4 person tasting an hour prior. The bartender was quick to confirm the purchase from my phone and start serving up our tasters. Upon our first pour she handed us our own stamp card which enabled us to claim 5 more tastes each.
We opted to relax in the serene outdoor and shaded grassy area not too far from the main tasting room since there was a lot of hustle and bustle from a wedding that had been booked there (which we were very tempted to crash hah). This was all possible because they conveniently had a ‘wine bar’ of sorts situated in the outside area. So whenever our drinks were depleted, we were able to replenish our supplies with no problem. I found their Syrah’s the most delightful… although this is usually the style I enjoy most. They did have several varieties of it, so made me wonder if that was their best wine. I’m no wine connoisseur, so don’t take my word for it. Either way, they catered to my tasting preferences and I was immensely satisfied with my experience here.

For those looking to taste coming from central San Diego, Orfila is perfect. It’s not as far as Temecula or Ramona but it has equally beautiful views of an incredible vineyard!
My friend and I bought the groupon. At the time, groupon was having a 20% off deal so we ended up getting to taste (6 tasters of our choice plus the glass to take home) for only $ 4.80 each!
The property is beautiful. It’s propped up on a hill so the views are incredible. They have an outdoor patio area, indoor tasting room and rose garden. The outdoor patio and tasting room and restricted to 21+ but the rose garden is family friendly.
At 12 noon, they also do free tours! We enjoyed a tour around the vineyard. We looked at the grapes and the processing area. Our tour guide shared a lot of great facts and information with us that was very interesting! It was a hot day so the tour was only about 25 mins to minimize sweating outside!
Now for the wines. I will have to say that I’ve tasted better. The wines weren’t quite as tasty as I would’ve hoped but I was really happy that I was able to try so many different types of wine during the tasting. My favorite was the Pinot Blanc. It was a delicious sweet white. Any of the wines with the word estate next to them mean that the grapes come from Orfila (fun fact from the tour).
Overall, a great experience and I would definitely come back again. The overall atmosphere and proximity to downtown SD made the trip perfect!

From reading the most recent reviews I can deduct there have been changes at the winery regarding small children. It is really too bad that bad apples can ruin it for everyone.
I do support the idea of having a designated area for parents and the babies, I had a funky experience here once in which a little girl wondered into the tasting room and I found her and couldn’t locate her mom and dad.
The winery is small and very affordable, check out the calendar for their events.
I enjoyed a bottle of their sparkling outside on a hot day, great time and very welcoming crew.
