Swirlz Candy

I always get my gummy bears here! Avocado fudge [cookies and cream and dark chocolate flavors) and ice cream are wonderful too. I also bought my vintage looking Audrey Hepburn tin lunch box here.

There must be money in these types of establishments because every neighborhood seems to have one or two. For me, it’s about nostalgia. They have oldies but goodies, but supply isn’t always that great. They ran out of Big Cherry which didn’t make me very happy.

Yummy Ice Cream. Their $ 1.99 scoop is big. If you love ice cream, this is a great place on Grand Ave to EAT IT UP! I love my Cookies and Cream Ice Cream. I don’t eat Ice Cream frequently, but enjoy it here.
The inside décor is also pretty wonderful. There is old candy and relics everywhere. The check-​in offer is pretty nice too! I didn’t notice it when I paid the other day, but I’ll use it on my next visit!

We had a challenging experience several years ago when the shoppe first opened which I just shared with an owner whom I overheard lamenting the challenges she was having with the city and questioning why her business wasn’t better. She blamed everything from parking to sponsored activities so I spoke up… Rather than acknowledge and apologize she said «you’ve probably never opened a store». Really? You have a customer in front if who who cared enough to speak with you about a challenge instead of immediately and publicly voicing a negative opinion and you used that moment to argue rather than learn?
One can buy candy in more than 100 shops in the area … Although this has a charming appearance and I cherish our downtown businesses, I be spending my money elsewhere.

This is by far one of my favorite places to go for ice cream and a walk through memory lane. When you walk into this store, it’s like being transported to a candy wonderland. All sorts of imported chocolates and candies and little toys to drive kids of all ages wild. They even sell glass marbles and we just freaked because when last have you seen a kid play with marbles!!!
Situated at the back of the store is a little ice cream parlor. They sell Thrifty’s ice cream and it was delicious. We shared a banana split and even then it was way too big for two people. But we took one for the team, loosened our belts, and finished off that banana split:)
The service is amazing. The staff are so helpful and enthusiastic. They went above and beyond to make our first Swirlz experience an unforgettable one!!!

They have a huge candy selection and they also sell Thrifty ice cream. But it seemed like all their products were old. I got a bunch of different types of chewy candy and it wasn’t the same consistency are sweet factory candy (even though I picked the same exact things I always get). The chewy candy wasn’t as chewy and it was kind of hard which made it seem like their candy had been sitting in the containers for a while.

Very cool candy shop, retro treasure! You can get for your fix of nostalgic sugar plus antique looking toys, or replica of old ones. Lots of colors that seduce both children and adults (well, at least I was with my mouth open with the findings on every shelf;). The surprise comes at the end of the store, with that cute ice cream parlor corner, very clean and visually appealing. Customer service was great, the ladies working there treat me to several different sweets and even gave me some free samples on my way out.

Now talk about a treasure!!! Not only they have solid quality merchandise, but
1) businesses such as these are an endangered species, and
2) the uniqueness of Swirlz is a POSTIVE addition to the struggling yet prospective value of Escondido’s Grand Avenue Downtown Area!!!

I love this place, especially becuase of the retro theme! They have a great selection and a malt shop in the back. There avocado fudge isn’t bad either (taste better than it sounds)

Stopped by during Cruisin Grand today and I just loved the environment; the second i walked in I felt like a happier person: D It looks great, exudes fun, and the employees are all super nice! The shakes were delicious, but I’d say the ambiance is the best part :)

We come here for ice cream. Nothing special, but we like the ambiance and the employees are always nice. They have a little corner near the ice cream where they sell fudge and other sweets that are locally made; selections change.
The store is full of both current and «nostalgic» candies. If I were a child, I will have a hard time making up my mind. But, it would have still been heaven.

This place is pretty decked out; both inside and out. Bubble gum colored chairs and tables, lights and decoration. This has to be a dream for a little kid!
I always like venturing into Candy shops to see if they happen to carry my favorite Canadian goodies. It’s a hit and miss thing. They didn’t have any of the Canadian goodies I miss from back home, but they did have quite the selection of everything! We walked around and marveled at the candy we have never even seen before.
The people were nice and happy to talk. I don’t know how they end up working their and not devouring the weird and unusual selections they offer. I wouldn’t be able to resist!

This place is awesome. It’s like going back in time with all the retro candy and toys. They even have an ice cream shop in the back. For those looking for candy from the past, this is the place to get it. Highly recommended!

Swirlz is the best candy shop in Escondido and all of North County San Diego, I’d definately recommend checking them out!

This is by far my 3year old daughter’s favorite shop on Grand Ave! I must say that it is winning me over as well. The selection of modern and retro candies and goodies is second to none… and they even have a great selection of old toys and games such as wax teeth, fake noses, poppers… and where else now adays can you buy bubble gum cigarettes! They have packaged candy, and bulk candy… and even a great malt and snack shop in the back! So many businesses seem to come and go in the great little shopping district, I hope this place sticks around!
If you want to have fun, shop local… and get most any flavor of PopRocks… and even a «moon pie»…then come on in here!

A must for any and all kids (inner or actual). Candies as far as the eye can see. Plus ice cream! And soda with real cane sugar. Think… Main Street USA in Disney, but locally. Much better selection than Sweet Factory (trust me on this). Random wooden toys and plush dolls (ended up walking out with a 3 foot tall sock monkey). The selection of candies from MY youth were enough to send me back to 3^rd grade mentality. I spent a good half hour tossing copious amounts of junk food into the wooden basket before selecting which sugary libation to wash it all down with. The stomach ache following my binge is worth it. I REGRET NOTHING! In fact, I think it may just be a sign of withdrawal.

Formerly located in Fallbrook, this new addition to the shops that line downtown Escondido should do well. Their claim to fame is offering candy of your childhood. This is a great spot to introduce your childhood favorites to your own children. You can purchase candy by weight or you can search for your pre-​packaged favorites located throughout the store.
In the rear is an ice cream shop. But the star is the candy and memorabilia. I spent a considerable amount of time demo-​ing a dozen or so wind-​up toys. Unfortunately, all of the wind-​ups are made with plastic. However, there are metal toys available but can’t be taken out of their display boxes (buyer beware).
My GF charged with me the task of finding a roll of Original Flavor Life Savers. Apparently, this candy many of us grew up with, are no longer available on convenience store shelves or supermarket check-​out aisles.
What gives?
But not to worry, you can find them here. Another great thing they sell here is gum made with real sugar as opposed to the aspartame flavored gum that’s available viritually everywhere else. I challenge you to find any gum sold in supermarkets or convenience stores that isn’t made with aspartame.
Whenever I’m in downtown Escondido, Swirlz will be a must stop.
