At Schweitzer’s Automotive Center we are a full service facility. We service and repair domestic and import cars and trucks, medium duty trucks and most motor homes. Gas engines or diesel engines we are your shop. From pre-​purchase inspections to custom one of a kind «just for you» street rods. Yes, we even do the basic lube, oil and filter change. Drivability diagnosis and repair, state of the art alignment equipment. From tires and brakes to wiper blades. Schweitzer’s Automotive Center is your dealership alternative.

History

Established in 1993.

Schweitzer’s Automotive Center started November 1st 1993. We started small (two work bays) and have grown over the years to our present size of 18 service and repair bays! With our largest bay being able to accommodate 40 ft diesel motor homes, inside the building on a lift. We have always updated and improved our equipment to stay at the front of the pack.

Dave is a honest, caring, upfront businessman and I really appreciated his style from start to finish. Brought my car in for an estimate and made an appointment for the following week when I had time to bring it in. All the work was done exactly as promised, the car was done earlier than estimated and the results were perfect. Dave’s crew is fantastic, friendly and couldn’t be nicer.

2 bad experiences and I’m done. First time they quoted me for a fuel pump replacement only to call me an hour after starting work to tell me they had accidentally used the wrong part number in the quote and it was going to be an extra $ 150. Second time I took my vehicle in for an electrical issue. They had it for 3 days and didn’t return my call so I went down to check on my vehicle. Guy behind the counter denied getting my call and when he went to check on my vehicle came back saying they found nothing wrong. Charged me $ 80 for that? Took it to a different shop and they diagnosed the problem in under an hour, ordered the part, had it installed and ready for pick-​up by the next morning.

I decided to take my Kia here for its 60,000 mile service, which was a big one for my particular car (timing belt, spark plugs, etc.) The price they quoted me was very competitive and I saw that they were both AAA and Better Business Bureau certified so they seemed like a good choice.
The only real issue was a lack of communication on their end — more than once they told me they would call by a certain time to give me an update but never did, and after waiting a couple more hours I ended up having to call them to figure out what was going on. One other minor qualm is that they don’t offer a shuttle service to Springfield, so I ended up having to take a cab which of course added to the cost.
That said, they never did any additional work on my car without getting my permission first and they were more than happy to talk me through the unexpected issues that came up as well as show me the parts they’d taken out. They were always very friendly and straightforward and I never felt bullied into making any decisions, which is a nice change from some other mechanics I’ve been to.
Most importantly, my car ran better than ever when I got it back from them and it is still going strong. They also provide a warranty on their work (18,000 miles I believe) so it’s clear that they stand behind what they do.
Overall I am very happy with my experience at Schweitzer’s Automotive and would recommend them to anyone looking for a trustworthy, reasonably-​priced mechanic.
